Em Tường Minh lớp E61 nộp bài Writing Task 2 Topic 17 ạh:

Topic 17: There are social, medical and technical problems associated with the use of mobile phones. What form do these problems take? Do problems of using mobile phones outweigh the benefits?

Undoubtedly, people are now enjoying one of the greatest electronic telecom technological boom times in human history. However, as the mobile phone which is one of the most popular technologies has become rife, its drawbacks, which can be seen from social, medical and technical perspectives, deserve people’s greatest attention.

First of all, when the mobile phone has brought considerable convenience, people’s obsession with convenience has meanwhile caused enormous disturbance, not only including social problems, but also including technical problems. At many public places, speaking at loud volume via phone is considered as an impolite, even prohibited, behavior, such as at libraries, theatres, hospitals and so forth. The ring tone of mobile phone can also interrupt the lesson in classroom and distract students’ concentration. More critically, the radio waves surrounding mobile phone might jam the normal operations of other important waves and equipment at some particular places, such as airports or hospitals, which can result in unpredictable terrible disasters.

Moreover, the detrimental effects on user’s health are also the hot concerns in human’s daily life. It is argued that there are some connections between long-time heavy phone users and certain type of cancers regardless of the lack of actual evidences. The road accidents, meanwhile, have been increasing swiftly since the first time appearance of mobile phones, which is believed that cause higher risk of collisions and losing control for motorists when driving and talking on the phone simultaneously.

When its downside persists, the mobile phone has proven indispensable in modern life. The remarkable point is that mobile phone does not only own convenient characterizes, such as handheld, lightweight, portable, but also support various utilities like sending messages, exchanging music files, making voice calls, even browsing Internet nowadays. Thence, the increasing pervasion as technical advances and mass manufacture within twenty years makes them low-cost personal items and continuous to pay an importance role as a key social communication tool.

From what has been discussed, one understands that the contribution of the mobile phone to human daily life is an irreversible trend, although there are still some social, medical or technical issues need to be well dealt with in the future.

Topic 25: many people think that public libraries should only provide books and should not waste their money on expensive hi-tech media, such as software, DVDs or videos. Do you agree or disagree?

I suppose that hi-tech media such as computer software, videos and DVDs are being increasingly introduced to public libraries. Some people start to argue that their money should not be wasted on these media. However, I personally think hi-tech media should be encouraged, for the good of both the libraries and the general public.

First and foremost, people go to libraries in order to fulfill their thirst for knowledge and information, in which case the library itself has become the place where the latest technology is first introduced to the general public. The use of hi-tech media such as computer software, video and DVDs enables people to get real life experiences of the latest technology achievements, which were once only read in books.

Furthermore , hi-tech media can store information longer than tra***ional means. Since once of the major functions of libraries is to provide information, the longer the storage of information, the better.

In terms of money saving, hi-tech media can actually save money. Take for example a small computer disc contains many information so we don’t invest for space too large also many things follow like table, shelf e.t.c. this particular example clearly demonstrates the advantages of hi-tech media over tra***ional books and publications in views of money saving. In fact, if all information were stored by hi-tech media, the libraries could provide us with a lot more information.

Some people argue against hi-tech media. They say hi-tech media waste their money. They say so because they don’t really comprehend the words “hi-tech media”. Their arguments are really made out of ignorance. In my opinion, to argue against hi-tech media is comparable to argue a against human development.

*****m up, hi-tech media have proved to be beneficial for both the library and the reader. It is an investment which will be worthwhile in the future.

Topic 21: Nowadays people can carry out tasks such as shopping and banking even business transaction without meeting each other face to face. What are the effects on individuals and the society?

Having been considered as the most modern technology, the Internet has a wide application in all aspects of our lives. With this technique, people can satisfy all their demands from work to other private purposes. However, there exist some benefits and consequences by using this hi-tech product.

On the positive side, the Internet brings a lot of advantages to life. With a widespread use of the Internet, people could handle their work online conveniently as well as adjust their working time flexibly. This would lead to significant results for both employers and their bosses. In ad***ion, people could save time and budgets for their personal businesses. Indeed, the Internet provides a wide range of plentiful and diversified goods without concerning about distance and geography. Furthermore, manufacturers attempt to appeal to customers and consolidate their reputation in the market by innovating and setting competitive prices. Consequently, people have more options to choose the most reasonable product suits their pockets. Moreover, thanks to the Internet, both traffic congestion situation and sound or air pollution would be solved rapidly.

On the negative side, the Internet also triggers some disadvantages. The first reason that can be seen by every person is lacking personal skills. Because of the Internet’s convenience, people do not need to meet their partners or customers directly. As a result, their communication skills are decreasing subtly without being noticed. People nowadays become more and more addicted to the Internet which leads *****ch long-term diseases such as obesity, back pain, rachiodynia. There is an inconspicuous point we must consider is social problems. People spend hours sitting in front of the screens and living in an imaginative world. Antisocial behaviors, as a consequence, will make people become autistic and isolated from factual society.

From what has been discussed above, there is no doubt that the Internet brings not only advantages but also disadvantages to people. If people can modify their purposes and manage their time logically, it will give them more effective working results and unimaginable benefits; otherwise, significantly unfortunate consequences will come. All depend on themselves.

Topic 23: Many employees may work at home with modern technology. Some people claim that it benefits only workers, but no employers. Do you agree or disagree?

As one of the most important inventions of the 20th century, computer and the Internet have a wide application in all aspects of our lives. Many people nurture the belief that modern technology only brings advantages to employees but their managers. After careful consideration of the above reasons, I, personally, stand on the side of the earlier opinion. There are many reasons that can verify this.

On the one side, we may look into every possible reason; however, foremost reason for this is effective productivity. Indeed, by modern technology like computer and the Internet, employees could save their time for working. For example, instead of moving out and experiencing daily traffic stuck, workers only need to sit in front of computer’s screen for carrying out their tasks. Of course, they also save the pocket because of no expen***ure for petrol or highway fees. In ad***ion, without facing to air or sound pollution as well as tremendous heat, the quality of workers’ health will improve rapidly. All benefits which were listed above will help workers to boot their productivity. Moreover, they could have time to undertake many jobs simultaneously. As a result, employees could purchase bigger dollars for their daily demands or other long period targets.

On the other side, there is a further more subtle point we must consider is advantages for employers. The first reason that can be seen, is economic benefit. Perhaps this is because of the simple fact that the employers need no money for office renting or unnecessary staffs. For instance, the employers could run their business by managing software on their computers or other portable equipment like I pad or Samsung galaxy tab. Time is ad***ionally another absolute advantage for the purpose of controlling their companies. Consequently, employers could check the hourly reports or up to date information from the Internet whenever or wherever they want. Higher productivity, as a result, could bring the employers more money for such further targets like opening new branches or new fields.

From what has been discussed above, we may finally draw the conclusion that modern technology brings to the society a number of advantages. Especially in business market where the modern tools could provide not only the employees but also their managers bigger pocket as well as free time. All of them will bear a more competitive business market which could satisfy customer’s demands.

With development of modern technology, employees with their laptop connected internet can easily finish their job without going to their office to work. They can work at home or somewhere with quality insurance. In my point of view, working at home with support from modern technology is not only benefit employees but also employers.
Firstly, working at home help employees more relax to work because they don’t have to wear a suite or uniform. They don’t be interrupted by other colleagues and can concentrate on their job. If they need more information, they easily connect to other by their cellphone or send an email.
Secondly, employees can manage their time flexibly when they work at home. They can work and take care of their family simultaneously. For example, a female employee can feed her baby and work when her baby sleeping. Especially when her baby still small and in the breast feeding period, it is very convenient for the mother to work at home because she doesn’t have to go back and forth so she can save her time and energy.
Thirdly, if the employer believes their staff and employees respect the rules, then the employees can ensure the quality of job and timeline. Employer can supervise their staff by cellphone or remind them about deadline by an email. If necessary, a short meeting between employees and employer will be arranged to solve urgent stuffs. Employer also has more time to do other important jobs and benefit from that.
In conclusion, working at home can benefit both employees and employer. In some certain con***ions, employees work more productive. Employer also benefit from that because they can motivate their employees to contribute to their organization.

Topic 19: Earlier technological development brought more changes to the life of ordinary people than recent technological development do. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Undoubtedly, people is now enjoying one of the greatest technology boom times in human history. Although there is a consensus that social changes coincide normally with technology advances, it is contentious issue whether the earlier technology (for example: machines, telephones, cars, planes…) impacts on people’s lives to a larger extent than does the recent technology ( for example: cell phone, internet, computer..). In my opinion, the recent improvements in technology have more far- reaching consequences.
The first thing is telephone. For many years ago, people invented telephone to serve the communication easily. Because of it, people could ask for information about the others one and unnecessary for direct meet. Recent days, telephone is improved in significant, cell phone is produced. It is small and very convenience to chat, send message or picture and etcetera… People can also take it with them everywhere easily.
Computer or internet is also one of recent technology development. In the past, people used transport likes cars, planes to make their ways shorter and save their time. But now, when they have computer and internet, they can work everything easily. People can use them to resolve their work from a distance and see or chat with the others who they need, even space is too far. This helps them to save too much time and one cost item significant. On the other hand, they are now able to spend much less time on those routine, dull activities and lead active leisure lives.
In fact, modern technologies also account for the evolution of people’s perception of society. People tend to develop, modify and repurpose technology for their own use. So, the recent improvements in technology are more and more available.
In conclusion, whether one likes it or not, technology will continue to evolve, with the resulting changes impacting the lifestyles and cultural norms continuously. While the earlier technology had enhanced the quality of life and generated revenue for people, the recent technology has made them lead a different lifestyle from previous generations

Topic 26: It seems that with the increase in use of mobile phones and computers, fewer people prefer to write letters. Will the skill of writing disappear completely?

Along with the development of the society, more and more problems are brought to our attention, one of which is that, along with the widespread use of hand phones and computers, modern technology has transformed our lives in terms of communication. Increasingly people lost their interest in the tra***ional method of communication - letter writing. Some of them even say the skills of letter writing will shortly vanish thoroughly. Yet, I disapprove their views because of some reasons, as follow.

From my own perspective, I admit that mobile phone and computer nowadays are absolutely convenient for us. Mobile phones are small, portable and have more and more efficient features. Computers even can provide you with every aspects you need. In modern society, with only a mobile phone or a computer, you can thoroughly control your life. Paper letters are no longer the only tool to communicate to the faraway people, you can write an email, make a phone call, text a message or even a video message just via a mobile phone. Modern technology really bring us a large amount of convenience that letter writing cannot compare with.

However, this is not to say that the skills of letter writing can be replaced by the mobile phone or computer and eventually disappear completely. In fact, modern technology are promoting people's writing skills. Even you use paper letter, email or text, the reason for both is to let the receivers understand what the senders mean. And if you have no writing skill, you are likely to make them misunderstanding your ideas. Text or email only shorten them to save your time. In academic writing, you have to use accurate language with correct vocabulary, grammar, structure,… to express your ideas. With text or email, you will use more techniques like abbreviation or emotion but you have to make sure that the reader understands and interprets the message as intended. Any misunderstanding or misinterpretation will cause dire consequences.

We can not forget a universal truth that if you have to write principle text like a contract, an essay cover letter or apply for a scholarship, writing skill are very valuable. You have to use a wide range of words, ability to arrange your ideas and ability to convince the readers. In those situations, the writing ability helps you a lot. And even you use computer or paper and pen to make a document, you need your proper writing skill if you want to achieve success.

*****m up, technological innovations such as computers and mobile phones truly boost the communicative efficiency and afford more comfortable lifestyle; nevertheless, they cannot replace the status of letter-writing in our lives, mentally and culturally.
