Vấn đề của nhớ idioms là phải nhớ context, chứ ko nên học thuộc ... Mình chưa bao giờ học idioms như kiểu học từ mới, những cái này mình đã từng nghe ở đâu đó, phim, sách vở, bạn bè v.v. Ít nhất đó là cách tớ học
Chứ cứ coi như tớ dịch đúng cả thì việc học thuộc lòng cũng cực kì phản khoa học, phải đặt trong văn cảnh thì mới thực sự hiểu rõ.

P/S: tối thứ 7, ngồi nhà dịch idiom cho bạn này, aint that sad, thôi ra ngõ uống nước mía đây =)

Bác nên hiểu nghĩa tùy theo ngữ cảnh. Nếu học thuộc có thể bị dùng sai.

1. John "The gas mileage of my car is dropping, something must be done about it." cái xe cần phải xửa chữa hay chỉnh xăng dầu này nọ.


2. John "That sob has been stealing from us, something must be done about it." giết hay đánh đập thằng ăn cắp kia.

đúng rồi, học idiom mà thiếu context thì chả có tác dụng gì hết

Bản thân thành ngữ "keep fingers crossed" có nguồn gốc hơi... mê tín một chút nên dịch là "hy vọng" chưa đủ. Hàm nghĩa chính xác của nó là "mong cho vận may đến với mình."

Ví dụ, "I just had my exam yesterday. Now I'm keeping my fingers crossed." có nghĩa là "Giờ tôi đang cầu trời khấn Phật cho mình thi đỗ."

Nếu mà mình nói với người khác (I'll keep my fingers crossed for you) thì có nghĩa là: Chúc may mắn/ Chúc bạn chóng lành bệnh/ Chúc bạn thành công v.v...
