Do you agree or disagree? How important are old buildings to us?

Buildings, not very different from other commo***ies, have their own lifespan. We are now faced with a debate concerning whether an old buildings should be demolished or maintained. As far as I am concerned, it depends on a case-by-case basis.

It is important to recognize that some buildings are really of aesthetic, archaeological or architectural values. Some are really wonderful and fantastic works of art and contain many tra***ional values. Thanks to their beauty and uniqueness, old buildings are truly attractive to foreign customers. As a result, tourism income may increase dramatically. In fact, as we can see in Vietnam, Hanoi’s old quarters which have a history that spans 2000 years with many old buildings are really appeal to both Vietnamese and foreigners. These old buildings have their own values which is an integral to culture as well as a symbol of Hanoi.

Despite these facts, some old buildings are really need to be replaced. These buildings are in low quality and poor con***ions, which are actually posing a danger on users. Moreover, in some cases, some old buildings are inappropriate to continued maintenance, which may blemish the landscape in some ways. For example, an old building which in the way of a new road line may really impede other forms of urban development. Therefore, sometimes, replacing old buildings with new ones is necessary and may meet the renewed needs of the city.

According to the above analysis, we can observe that whether to conserve or bulldoze old buildings depends on specific situations and con***ions. We should preserve old buildings which has precious cultural values. However, a suitable replacing old buildings to meet the improved needs of the city is also necessary.

Topic 30: Some people believe that new buildings should be built in tra***ional styles. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

We are living in a world that in which globalization is an unpreventable process. Everywhere cities are built similar to each others with big blocks of glass and steel. This is an inconvenience truth because architecture in an important part of culture and some people say buildings should be built in tra***ional styles. I am not quite agree with this.
Looking at the history of architecture it is easy to see that architecture styles changed rapidly through ages. A new style comes when people find disadvantage points of the old or when they just tired about the outdated and want something modern. What could last forever is the architectural value of famous buildings and names of great architect not the styles. Every age of every country has its own architectural styles that show its social culture technology… etc. We are living in our own times and to remind our next generations about who we are we need to build our cities with our architecture styles different from the old once. Moreover, architecture is an art which always need creativity, always need new ideas. Using tra***ional styles is not a creative idea also not a new idea anyway. Some architects wanted to use tra***ional architectural styles but their style so called Portmodernism was declined by architects nearly 50 years ago.
However, as mentioned, our modern cites look similar to each other because of globalization. There for, to define countries, glocalization is needed. The salvation only can be found in the spirit of each country, each clan. As Tadao Ando the idol of Asian’s architect has done is a good solution. He is Japanese and has built buildings with Japanese’s nerve, simple and fine, using colors and tra***ional details modernly and creatively. That is the way that is being used by architects around the globe.
Never forget who we are and we will do things right.

Do you agree or disagree? How important are old buildings?

With the increasing development of the present world, huge quantities of modern buildings are rocketing up. Some people appreciate this phenomenon as modern buildings are more magnificent and convenient, but nowadays, there is a general debate nowadays concerning the issue of whether the old buildings should be knocked down and give way to new buildings.

It’s true that cities of the world have to continue with its development. Therefore, they have to continue with its development by constructing new buildings with modern environment and comfort level. Comparing with those old buildings, modern ones obviously have more merits such as well-equipped facilities, scientifically-designed structure, and beautifully-decorated appearance, which will surely result in the fact that people can feel more comfortable, enjoy more convenience, and get more available space while living in them..

Although, new buildings are benefiting our fast pace life, we can not neglect the important impact of old buildings. To begin with, old buildings represent a city even a country’s history. These old buildings have recorded many important memories and cultural evolution; therefore, they have significant intangible value. Secondly, for tourism, old buildings are absolutely attracting more visitors from a wider region in that they are major part of tourism industry. For instance, when people travel to London, they definitely set Big Ben as a visit attraction.

As is discussed above, it is clear that old buildings, especially those cultural heritages, can not be completely destroyed to give way to new ones. On the contrary, individuals and authorities have responsibilities to preserve them, providing certain maintenance. Only when old buildings can be well-kept can a city remain its special feature.

With the advance of the human civilization, beside happiness, life today is filled of stress. Nowadays, there are an increasing number of people who have considered in the source of stress and the way to deal with it.
Firstly, the most important reason cause stress comes from job. For example, imagining that you are keeping an authoritative seat in the company and working under a fastidious boss. When everything runs in right ways, there is nothing to say but when ones go wrong or someone make a mistake. The boss shouts out your face, collages feel painful, customer complain so much … Standing with all of them makes you become stressful.
Moreover, another point we must consider is social communication. Everyday life contains so many relationships such as family, relatives, friends, neighbors … To deal with all of them or make them all comfort is not an easy job. Taking a common instant in everyday life, your best friend and your girl friend have a serious argument and they refuse talking to each other. Becoming mid person, you don’t know how to mediate between two warring sides. Considering the role of each relationships and deciding the way to get on well with every people may cause stress if it has any mistake.
Methods to cope with stress are many, but the most effective ones are relaxing. Being stress means you are standing with so many problems which cannot decide what to do, how to solve all of them. First thing to do is getting out of your mind and relaxing, there are some ways to mention is taking a long warm bath, listening instrumental music or taking yoga exercises,... After that, you can start to think about remaining problem, from hidden causes to serious affects. From all information collected adding with cool clear head so the solution decided can be the best. Another ways to deal with stress is practice, thinking everyday that this is not stress; this is only the common problem and overcomes it by any tape yet. Day by day, time by time, stress is not the big problem anymore.
From what has been discussed above, we may finally draw a conclusion that there are various ways can lead to stress and there are also abundant agencies to deal with it. Deciding how to do depends on many factors but mainly in the environment and personal character. Remember that do not make it become an obsession in your life.

Topic 37: What are the factors that cause stress and how to cope with stress?
Nowadays, people have to face a stressful life with pressures come from various sources. When the life have so much stress, it can cause a lot of troubles for the ones who stressed themselves as well as the people around them. This essay will list out some factors caused stress which can not be avoided and how to deal with them.
Many stressors come from the circumstances that people participate in. For example, the imbalance between work and leisure time causes people stress and may be get some problems of health such as depression or mental illness and require psychological treatments. Besides, the low standard of living enviroment or working environment also increase level of stress.
Another sources of stressor relates to personality or how people think about events and situations that they face in their live. Every coin has two sides and people who can see the bright side are easier able *****rpass the stressors and overcome the difficulties than the pestimistic ones.
There are many methods to cope with stress but in general, people under stress are advised to take part in creational activities such as listening to music, playing sports, doing excercise regularly, traveling, etc... they need to learn how to think positively and control their emotions as well as keep the effect of difficulties on their life at the lowest level.
As mentioned above, sources of stress can come from the outside environment as well as inside mind of human. People should keep their mind healthy and optimistic to prevent themselves from stress or to relieve stress.

Em Vịnh E61 nộp Writing Task2 topic 33: People tend to work longer hours nowadays. Working long hours has a negative effect on themselves, their families and the society, so working hours should be restricted. Do you agree or disagree?

Along with the development of society, more and more problems are brought to our attention, one of which is disadvantage of working long hours. A sizeable percentage of people nurture the belief that working long hours brings people a lot of negative effects on workers and it should be restricted. After careful consideration, I, personally, support the above opinion. There are many reasons that can verify this.

The first reason that can be seen by every person is working long hours triggers a number of chronic diseases. For example, popular diseases of sedentary workers are back pain, calcific bone or obesity which are results of lacking physical activities. As a consequence, not only productivity but workers’ salary will also be reduced. With employers, they have to spend more fund for recruitment or training to maintain the balance of companies.
A more essential factor why I advocate the argument is social effect. The longer hours the employees work, the less time they have for personal social activities. Therefore, it will broaden the gap between co-workers and damage familiar relationship. Moreover, the workers could be isolated from normal society and also put under pressure. This would lead to unimaginable effects like autism or oven suicide. All problems above could break the value of family and community system.
From what has been discussed, I may finally draw the conclusion that we should have a control for working long hours. However, a flexible solution is needed and depend on each type of work because of different job has its particular characters.

Em Tường Minh lớp E61 nộp bài Writing task 2 Topic 28 ạh:

Topic 28: People in many countries do not wear their tra***ional costume. Some argue that they would forget their history and tra***ion. Do you agree or disagree?

Is it reasonable for some people to say that the lack of wearing tra***ional costume in many countries nowadays could lead to the lack of knowledge on their history and tra***ion little by little? Responses to this question may vary. Some people would strongly oppose this practice, saying that it is the modern age and pragmatism is an essential factor in daily life, which the tra***ional costume does not often have. Others, however, argue in favor of the practice, consider that history and tra***ion are the root of a country, creating its national identity, especially represented in their tra***ional costume. Both of these views have their own merit.

There are strong reasons for supporting the former view. One is that wearing tra***ional costumes reminds people of many distinct characteristics of their culture. How people perceive their tra***ional costume shows the extent to which they are willing to respect and retain their cultural heritage. In Vietnam, for instance, female office workers are generally required to wear Ao Dai, a tra***ional dress, as a custom being handed down from generation to generation. It is a national symbol, giving millions of Vietnamese a sense of ethnic identity, wherever they are. Besides, it represents cultural values of Vietnam and shows the perceived position of females in a Vietnamese society. Despite the success of Ao Dai, it is a rare example in today's world, where most of the tra***ional costumes have been marginalized by Western-style business suits. People see national costume only in theatre, film and TV.

However, there are also plausible arguments for supporting the latter view. To begin with one of the most obvious phenomena is that quite a lot people do not wear their cultural costume because in their opinions, country history and nation civilization are kept in mind and way of life, not in costume wearing. Wearing casual clothes and modern fashion is being instead of tra***ional costume because of convenience. As known, the pace of modern is very fast, people did everything need to be without any shackle. They are seeking for freedom and simple. However, culture costume is always elaborate and ceremonious. It’s not suitable for modern people while working or playing. Another point to the fact is that lounge suit is accepted widely all over the world. It’s the result of globalization in the world.

On balance of both sides considered, I find it hard to say which of these above opinions I completely agree or disagree with. I am of the opinion that people in nowadays wear modern clothes for the daily life, and wear tra***ional costume in the special days. This life attitude will not only make citizens remember their national culture, but also provide them a new way to balance modern and culture.
