Most of us have already worked (part-time, full-time, one job, multiple jobs, etc.) Some of them are really nice jobs, some are crappy ones. No matter how they are, you must have learnt something from them.

So, this topic is opened for those who have worked, learnt, and tasted the bittersweet moment of earning the first amounts of money in life. It would be cool if you could share with us about the first time you earnt some money on your own

(I will share my stories also, but would like to hear from you guys first!!!!)

    EARN AND LEARN!!!!!!!!

    hi guys,
My first job was in a factory of Chanel parfum in France. I worked as a normal worker. Every morning I arrived at the factory at 7am and I returned home from work at 4pm.
Normally, I went to work by bus ( I didn''t have a car or a bicycle at that moment0, but one day I got up too late, so I missed the bus. I had another solution: my rollers, so I decided to go to work on my rollers.
The factory was quite far from my appartment, but I arrived on time. The problem is that when I arrived at the factory, I realised that I forgot my shoes to change, I decided to still put my rollers to get into the factory. There everyone was looking at me strangely. I didn''t understand why until my boss came to see me and said I was not supposed to use rollers inside the company, since I was young and was a student, they forgave me.
-----> So this is the first thing that I learnt: read carefully the company''s regulations at your first day especially about confidential information of the company.

    Hi atd_n,
Arriving at work on rollers... interesting! Thanks for sharing with us I pretty much can imagine how awkward the situation was, but it is memorable and fun to recall, isn''t it?
Cheers to atd_n (and Chanel perfume & France!)

I still remember my first paid job working as a cashier at a gasoline station. I worked the 3rd shift (from 12AM to 8AM) near downtown Anaheim, a very dangerous neighborhood. I took the risk anyway because I needed money for a trip to visit my girlfriend.
The tasks of the jobs were pretty simple, just punching the keyboard and collecting money. The only unfavorable work was cleaning up the restroom. Trust me, even in America, the public restrooms are still very nasty. Cleaning it was such a filthy and degrading job.
Beside from that, risk was another concern. However, I was pretty lucky. I wasn''t robbed anytime during my 3-month period working there. People yelled and cursed at me, or gave me a mean look each time they saw the gas prices hiking. Well, it was part of the job so I just tried to deal with it.
Well, that''s my first job. It is not something that I''m really proud of and go around telling everyone about it. However, there is one good lesson I learned from it : money is tough to earn. It also taught me that I must get good education, so I won''t end up doing these laborous, degrading, low-paid jobs for the rest of my life.
P/S : couple months after I quit that job, the guy who replaced me got robbed. He was struck on the head by the robber. But the last time I called, he seemed to be fine.

@ King: got ur email, will talk about it. Good thing is that you learnt money was not easy to earn Enjoy the trip and the meeting with SEC buddies!

When I was a first year student, I worked as a typist in a photocopy shop. It?Ts my first job. I guess you guys somewhat know what the typists often do. Typing and photocopying documents given by clients were my task. I admit that for many reasons I don?Tt like my first job at all. First, I was always in very passive position. I had to wait for clients ?ocreating? jobs for me. I sometimes had nothing to do during my set shift, but sometimes I seemed to be suffocated by a bunch of documents. Second, I was mostly hooked to the monitor and the photocopier as soon as I arrived ?omy officê?. That made my eyes terribly weary. Last but not least, they remunerated me according to the works I?Tve done. As I said above, I occasionally received nothing during my shift...
I attempted to finish my ?oprobation period" then I quit without reluctance.
My lesson: Have to study carefully the jobs wê?Tre going to dive in. If not, we just waste our time on inappropriate stuffs
