[Uni. of Oxford] Mica and Ahmet Ertegun Graduate Scholarship Programme in the Humanities

    Link: http://www.ox.ac.uk/feesandfunding/prospectivegrad/scholarships/university/ertegun/#Am

Scholarship / Financial aid: scholarships which cover living costs (at least £13,726) and college fees

    Deadline: 10 January 2014

Open to: applicants studying Classics, English Language and Literature, Fine Art, History, etc.

As Ertegun Scholars, the world’s top graduate students in the Humanities are brought together with Oxford’s exceptional community of scholars in a unique setting that fosters dialogue across academic disciplines, across cultures and across generations. Ertegun Scholars will leave Oxford prepared to be leaders – not only leaders in their chosen fields, but also leaders of global thought and opinion and leaders of positive action for the betterment of humanity.

Every year, at least twenty full-time graduate students in the Humanities, chosen from throughout the world in a highly competitive selection process, enjoy the benefits of this programme: payment of all tuition and college fees, a generous living stipend and the exclusive use of Ertegun House.

Ertegun House – a fully modernized, non-residential 1808 building located at the heart of Oxford’s academic
community – provides an environment for study and camaraderie that is unique at Oxford and unparalleled in the world. Each Ertegun Scholar has his or her own dedicated space for research and writing, opportunities to participate in social occasions and lively lectures, performances, and other activities developed expressly for the Ertegun Scholars, and access to Wi-Fi, on-line access to Oxford libraries and state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment. The Director of Ertegun House, a distinguished member of the Oxford faculty, is available full-time as a mentor to the Ertegun Scholars and a resource to help them make the most of their experiences at Oxford and at Ertegun House.

    Am I eligible?
For entry in 2014-15, at least ten scholarships will be available. You should be applying to start a new one- or two-year full-time Master’s degree or three-year full-time doctoral degree at Oxford.
Applications to The Mica and Ahmet Ertegun Graduate Scholarship Programme may be made by those working in fields covered by the following faculties: Classics (including classical archaeology); English Language and Literature; Fine Art (excluding studio art); History (including history of art and the history of architecture); Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics; Medieval and Modern Languages (covering most European languages and their literature); Music; Oriental Studies (including Far Eastern and Middle Eastern Studies, and the study of a wide range of languages); Philosophy; and Theology.

Please ensure you meet the selection criteria for your course (see the Course Guide for more information).
Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit. This scholarship may not be held in conjunction with any other awards. This scholarship is not open to students with deferred entry.

    What does it cover?
100% of university and college fees, a grant for living costs (at least £13,726) and exclusive use of Ertegun House. Awards are made for the full duration of a student’s fee liability for the agreed course. If your scholarship is offered for a course lasting more than one year, the continuation of your scholarship each year is subject to an annual renewal process based on satisfactory academic progress.

    How do I apply?
Apply at the same time as you apply to Oxford by selecting ‘Mica and Ahmet Ertegun Graduate Scholarships in the Humanities’ in the Funding section of the University’s graduate application form.
In order to be considered for this scholarship, you must submit your application for graduate study by the relevant January deadline for your course (10 January 2014 for Philosophy; 24 January 2014 for all other Humanities subjects). You must also complete a supporting statement (see ‘Downloads’ on the top right-hand corner of this page) and upload it, together with your graduate application form, by the deadline, in order for your application to be complete.

If you do not apply as detailed above by the deadline, you will not be considered for this scholarship, even if you have selected the Mica and Ahmet Ertegun Postgraduate Scholarships in the Humanities on the graduate application form.

Ad***ional points to note when applying for this scholarship:
If, following the assessment of the January deadline applications, your department places your application on a waiting list or decides to re-evaluate it against the applications received for the next deadline (14 March 2014), then you will no longer be eligible for this scholarship.

How will I know if I’ve been successful?
Decisions are expected to be made around April 2014. This webpage will be updated as soon as the successful candidates have been notified. If you have not heard from us by this time, then your application to this scheme has been unsuccessful. Due to the volume of applications we receive, we are unable to contact unsuccessful applicants individually or provide feedback on applications.

    Further information
For further information about the Scholarships, please see the Programme website.
If you have any questions about this scholarship which are not answered above, please email us through the Ask a Question facility, selecting the Funding category.
