UNIVERSITY OF EXETER 7 PhD Studentships in Renewable and Marine Renewable Energy Research The Renewable Energy Group at the University of Exeter, is able to offer seven studentships in the field of renewable and marine renewable energy. The group is broad-based and multidisciplinary, but with a key strategic focus on marine energy. Based at the University of Exeter?Ts Cornwall Campus, the group has close connections with the Wave Hub development, a major South West regional initiative to produce the world?Ts largest wave farm. Supergen-Marine Studentships The University of Exeter is an associate member of the Supergen-marine consortium, the principal EPSRC funded research collaboration in marine renewable energy. Exeter can offer two studentships in the areas: 1) Mooring research for marine energy conversion; 2) Reliability methods applied to marine energy conversion systems. Applicants should have a First or Upper Second Class degree in an appropriate science or engineering discipline. Successful applicants can start immediately. Peninsula Research Institute for Marine Renewable Energy (PRIMaRE) A further five awards are available, funded through PRIMaRE. The Institute is a £15 million research collaboration between the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth. Applications are welcome from graduates with interests in: ? Wave resource measurement and assessment; ? Hydrodynamics; ? Numerical modelling; ? Hydraulic power integration systems; ? Power electronics as a grid interface for stability and control of marine renewable energy systems; ? Power quality for marine renewable energy systems; ? Photovoltaic, heat storage and phase change materials; ? Renewable energy policy. These will be available from spring 2008 onwards. Again a degree in an appropriate subject for each topic at a First or Upper Second Level is required. The award will provide £16,500 per year towards University tuition fees and a stipend for three years. The closing date for receipt of completed applications is 30th March 2008.
