Không thấy bác nào nói đến Đài Tiếng Nói Hoa Kỳ (VOA) nhỉ? Hồi còn ở nhà tôi vẫn nghe đài này và luôn được các thầy cô giáo ở Trường Đại học NT lẫn HVQHQT khuyên là nên nghe. Đài này sóng radio không được tốt bằn BBC nhưng vẫn nghe tốt. Lúc đầu chưa quen nên nghe cái special rồi dần dần nghe bản tin với tốc độ bình thường.
Tôi khuyên các bạn nên vào địa chỉ trên mạng của VOA
www.voanews.com nghe rõ hơn, hơn nữa bạn có thể download các bản tin về để nghe khi nào muốn nghe lại, đồng thời trên mạng cũng có luôn transcript của bản tin đó, rất tiện lợi cho việc so sánh mình đã nghe chuẩn chưa.
Còn bác phuthuycuoichoi khuyên nghe BBC vì chắc bác này khoái accent tiếng Anh hơn là tiếng Mỹ. Tôi cũng recommend các bạn nên vào trang nhà của BBC trên mạng, có hẳn một mục dạy tiếng Anh mà các bạn khai thác mệt nghỉ luôn. Địa chỉ trang chủ của BBC là www.bbc.co.uk Các bạn cũng có thể nghe rất nhiều bản tin tại địa chỉ trên.

To me none of them are correct. Listening and speaking has nothing in common.
"Nghe tốt thì sẽ nói tốt"... well, what a stupid thing to say jk, you can obviously see Vietnamese students, they can listen very well, they understand every little thing foreigners say but they hardly speak a word when they meet them as they're too shy. So how can they improve their speaking?!
"Người khác lại bảo : nói tốt ắt nghe tốt" This is even more crazy. I have no comment.
To improve your listening and speaking skill, the only way is to practise both as much as possible. For listening, yeah, listening to the music is absolutely an effective way, try to listen to the lyrics of the song and write them down, then log on to the Internet and see if you?Tve got it 100% correct. EC has already had many topics on ?ohow to listen to English well?, you can easily find them out in the topic ?oEC index?, in the ?oTo improve your English? section. For speaking, the best and only way is to speak as much as possible, speak English whenever you can, especially with English native speakers or those who have already lived a long time there. You can also listen to tapes and repeat what they say, notice the pronunciation and intonation.

Well, to some extent, I agree with the first idea "nghe tốt thì sẽ nói tốt". We can only speak a language after we have accumulated enough vocabulary, and also knowledge about structure. One way to obtain this knowledge is through listening. A child listens and observes before he/she can speak the language.
However, I said I agreed to some extent only, because speaking a language well depends on many factors such as ability, practise, and determination etc. Considering our mother tongue, Vietnamese. We all can speak Vietnamese, but not all of us can speak the language well .
Therefore, it's more reasonable to say " nghe tốt thì sẽ giúp cho nói" instead.
As for the second idea ," Nói tốt ắt nghe tốt", I don't agree with it. As I've said, English is not our first language, so listening must always come first, especially when we have a chance to talk to foreigners. Listening to them helps us to better speak the language.
When we practise English among Vietnamese friends of somewhat the same level, it doesn't matter if we listen or speak.

To sis 6 senses : I was a bit surprised when I saw that you've been staying and studying in the United States for a couple of years , and still you use the word " practise" in your writing instead of "practice" which is for American English. This is wierd... Have any of your teachers ever corrected you for that thing ? I dont think our American teachers want to see British words being used in our papers , sis . All of my teachers would correct them though then I did have to change since I came here. So it's kind of unacceptable for me to see a person who studies in America and still uses British ways for writing as well as speaking ( I guess you dont speak British , do you ?). Well, or is that about what we call the conservation of trad***ional ways ?

well, Although I am in the US, I have to admit that I really like girls with British accent. Dont ask me why. It just sounds incredibly cute and ***y.
Some of my friends say that I carry a slight British accent in my pronounciation, but I have absolutely no idea why Too much Sean Connery maybe?

Personally, these ideas is fairly correct, of cousre not absolutely. If someone has a good ability in listening, that means you can detect every little thing and i am sure that you must have an incredibly good vocabulary. A good vocabulary will bring you a good reaction, right? On the other hand, if you have a good ability in speaking, that mean you can express things in different ways to attract your audience, you have a good pronunciation, I bet that you will get on well with listening without trouble.

You are rite. It's important not to get mixed up between the two, especially in "professional" documents.
About my accent , I'm far from having American or the "***y and cute" British accent. Still good enough for you guys to make sense of what I say
