    The ASEAN Foundation (AF) is pleased to grant 5 full scholarships for individuals wishing to study at the Master of Arts Program in International Development Studies (MAIDS) at Chulalongkorn University .

    Please note that prospective AF- MAIDS scholars must be bonafide ASEAN national with two years professional experience in a development-related field.

    Scholarship Program Advertisement

    1. Eligibility (5 Scholarships)

    1. Only bonafide ASEAN nationals would be eligible for the scholarship. ASEAN-Member countries include: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam

    2. Candidates must hold a bachelor''''''''s degree in the social sciences with a good overall academic standing;

    3. Candidates must have at least 2 years experience in a related field;

    4. Candidates must have demonstrated English proficiency (minimum TOEFL score of 550, minimum IELTS score of 5.5) OR an acceptable score from a recognized testing centre in respective ASEAN member countries;

    5. Candidates must provide a statement of purpose explaining why they are interested in studying International Development Studies at Chulalongkorn University . They must also outline their research interests in ad***ion to their personal and professional objectives. In turn, candidates must also have research interests in line with the mandates of the ASEAN Foundation.

    The Siam Cement Foundation is pleased to grant up to 8 full scholarships for individuals wishing to study at the Master of Arts Program in International Development Studies (MAIDS) at Chulalongkorn University for the up-coming 2008-2009 academic year.
    Please note that prospective Siam Cement Foundation scholars (with the exception of Thailand ) must be full-time government employees or civil servants of their respective governments. You do not qualify for the scholarship program if you are currently a student or government contract worker. Therefore, you must be a permanent full-time staff member of a government ministry or institution.

    First of all, I would like to introduce myself to you. My name is Parnot Wangroatrit from Siam Cement Group (SCG). We are one of the biggest conglomerates in Thailand and some of you may have heard about us before. Apart from Thailand , SCG also has investment in ASEAN region such as Cambodia , Indonesia , Philippines , Malaysia and Vietnam . Especially in Vietnam, we have Vina Kraft which is a paper plant located in Bin Duong province and also TPC Vina which is a part of our SCG Chemicals unit.
    I was introduced by Dr. Raimo (former Director of Department of Pulp and Paper Technology), Dr. Esa Viljakainen (current Director) and Ms. Suwannee Tilapornputt (a secretary of Pulp and Paper Department) about all of you who are alumni and current students of AIT?Ts PPT and that you may be able to help spread the news for us.
    Each year, SCG Foundation, established by SCG, will grant scholarships for young talent to further his/her study in Thailand and also in the country where we live. For the 2007 academic year, we also granted 1 scholarship to Vietnamese student who now study at AIT in Master?Ts of Engineering (Mr. Nguyen Phan Bach Su) and also another 2 scholarships for government employee to study in Master of International Development Studies at Chulalongkorn University (Mr. Son Nguyen and Mr. Loi Le).
    For this 2008 academic year, SCG Foundation will grant 5 scholarships to Vietnamese students to come study in Thailand .
    For 5 scholarships there will be,
    1 for Master of Pulp and Paper Technology at Asian Institute of Technology (AIT)
    1 for Master of Chemical Engineering at Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT)
    3 for Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical/Mechanical) at Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT)
    For Bachelor degree, the scholarship opportunity is open up to last year student in high school (grade-12 student) or 1st year university student.
    While Master?Ts degree, the scholarships are for 4th year university student or new graduate who has work experience not over than 2 years.
    (For your information, university in Thailand starts the first semester in first week of June. This can be imply that, if qualified for Bachelor?Ts scholarship, that student will have to start the semester again but we can transfer some cre***s if equivalent).

    Another attached file will be application forms. I send you the forms for both Master?Ts and Bcahelor?Ts at SIIT. The application forms will be uploaded to www.scg.co.th and www.scgfoundation.org and ready for students on Wednesday, February 27. About AIT application, all students must apply at AIT website.
    Submission period will be February 25 ?" March 31, 2008.

    Applicants will be initially screened based on academic record and essay (the essay is on the application form).
    For Bachelor?Ts degree scholarship, examination date will be on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at HCMC University of Technology from 09:00 ?" 12:00.
    For Mater?Ts degree scholarship, there is no examination but we screen from academic record and letter of recommendation. However, there will be an interview for students.
    10 ?" 15 shortlisted candidates will be invited for the final interview on Thursday, April 10, 2008 at SCG Representative Office in HCMC.
    Announcement of 3 scholarships will be on Monday, May 5, 2008 at www.scg.co.th and www.scgfoundation.org
    After that, there will be a process for example student visa, etc. For this regard, SCG already contacted with the Royal Thai Embassy.
