Cold weather brings snow to Mau Son Peak.
Snow and ice covered Mau Son Peak in the northern province of Lang Son oưn Wednesday night, according to the national centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecast. Due to the persistent cold weather and intermittent precipitation, the temperature at the peak, more than 1,500m above sea level, dropped to as low as 1 Celsius.
At night, temperatures dropped below zero and the humi***y rose, resulting in ice and snow. The centre said this was an abnormal weather phenomenon oưn the peak and had not occurred in the past six years. In early 2002, similar weather struck the Mau Son Tourism Zone peak.
Telephone lines in the area were over-burdened with calls as alarm rose over worsening con***ions, and visitors flocked to the area to view the snow.
The centre has forecast very cold weather in the north over the next two days, and has said the general cold snap will last through Tet (lunar New Year). Meanwhile, the central region is dry with temperatures hitting lows at night and in the early morning. The Central Highlands and the south are dry with sunny days, and the average temperature in the South is hovering between 21 to 34 Celsius.
