Good job, captor of sin! The sentencê?Ts meaning is changed quite a lot when it is stressed differently, thus you?Td better notice the speaker?Ts intonation so as to eliminate the vagueness.

Was Saddam Hussein captured in 10 Downing Street or did Tony Blair confirm the news there?

Is the above copied from somewhere else? I have NOT YET seen captor_of_ sin in this thread. Brit, you may well have made a mistake here! Cup79 is NOT c-o-s!!!

    YES.
Not a very good one. But one can always ask what if the customers do not have the beverages with them or they do not want to spend the money on beverages... I think the wording of the notice is not good.
Similarly, long ago (I was told) the following notice was posted in London underground stations:
    DOGS MUST BE CARRIED
Does this mean that whenever you travel by tube you must carry a dog (if you don''t have a dog with u you can''t travel!) or does it mean that anyone who has a dog with them must carry it when travelling by tube?!!!

Oops Iâ?Tm so sorry for mistaking you for Captor_of_sin, I must have been distracted then but to be quite honest, I always feel that you two bear much resemblance.
Your instance of the warning posted in London stations is so cool, itâ?Ts such a pity that I didnâ?Tt see it on my vacation or I could take a picture to memorise a bit about London . As for your three new examples, the structure is so clear that I couldnâ?Tt figure out what the ambiguity is, anyone help me plzzz???

Now that I've found you, I won't let you go away...

We love peace -> Meaning of this sentence depends on the context it''s in. 1. We''re peace lovers (regardless are we in any circumstance, we are still peace lovers); 2. ->In a war; At that time, "we" desire the peace in the near future, we love peace (strong but this strong feeling just lasts in a specific period of time) and we long for the war ended.
Hope it''s right and waiting for cup79''s response.

    Here are my answers, everyone.
    1. Is this a genuine question (asking about the hearer''''s ability) or a mere request by the speaker that the hearer read the chapter by next Monday?
    2. Does the action denoted by arrived refer to the present time or the past? For example, I am at university now and am also expecting some relatives to come to my house so I may say They may have arrived (by now)... The problem we need to solve is whether the speaker intends arrived by now, the time of utterance/speaking or arrived by some time in the past. Present posibility or past posibility?
    3. This is much simpler than many of you might have thought. Does WE include or exclude the addressee(s)? In other words, do we translate WE into Vietnameseas ''''chúng tôi'''' or ''''chúng ta''''?
    Hope my answers are satisfactory.
