Ortega won't go to Arabia: Agent

ROME, Feb 18 (SW) - Antonio Caliendo, agent of Ariel Ortega, denied today that the player has been transferred to the Saudi Arabian team Al Ittihad like it was said in the last hours.
"I received a phone call in which an offer was made to me for transferring Ortega but I told them that it's impossible to consider something like that," assured Caliendo from Rome to a radio station in Buenos Aires.
On the other hand, the vice president of River Plate, Julio Macchi said that the club from Nuñez keeps the hope that they can count on Ariel Ortega for this season.
"I will not be saying anything new if I say that the negotiations for having Ortega at River again are very difficult but we still have the hope to have him with us. We don't know anything about a possible transfer to an Arabian club and we trust that we will have him with us. In ad***ion, tonight is the deadline for subscribing players to the Libertadores Cup list and we will subscribe him just in the same way we have done it for the national championship."

Catanha hit me in the face when nobody could see: Pernia

HUELVA, Feb 18 (SW) - The ex defender of Independiente, Mariano Pernia, who is playing at Recreativo de Huelva, from Spain, claimed at the ending of the match between Celta and Recreativo that the Brazilian striker, Catanha, had punched him in the face when they were going back to the dressing rooms.
"Catanha hit me in the face because we had some problems during the match but he didn't do anything at that moment, he waited until we were in the tunnel going back to our dressing rooms and gave me a punch in the face so nobody could see him. He even hit me from the back because he is a coward."
The defender said that he has some problems with his eye cause of what Catanha did: "I have some pain in one of my eyes and I can't even see very well so I am going to claim at the Spanish Football Federation for sanctioning him because I may have a serious injury."

Martin Palermo about Riquelme and himself in Europe

VILLAREAL, Feb 21 (SW) - The striker of Villarreal, Martin Palermo, defended his friend Juan Roman Riquelme saying that the ex player of Boca Juniors phoned him several times complaining about how Louis Van Gaal made him play.
Palermo said that seeing Riquelme having success in Europe is a matter of time. "Van Gaal didn't trust in Riquelme and that wasn't fair."
The player of Villarreal also said: "Many players arrive here and during some months they have to sit on the bench, and for example, now Aimar is the star of Valencia."
"Riquelme phoned me several times and said that Van Gaal only made him run in a position that wasn't his." "The crazy" shared glory moments with Riquelme at Boca Juniors, when they won many national titles, the Libertadores Cup and the Intercontinental Cup. "Riquelme was the man of all the actions when the team attacked and that doesn't happen with him at BarĐa".
"He also doesn't have the same way of playing as at Boca, the tactics are different and the players that play with him don't do the same work as at Boca so it's very hard for him to get adapted to European football, but all the Argentinians that managed to get adapted have had success."
Then, talking about his personal situation, Palermo said: "When I arrived to Spain I didn't get adapted at once to the way that the teams play here, there isn´t so much space for moving the ball and the 4-4-1-1 is a tactic that we don't like very much, we prefer, 4-3-1-2."

    Veron boost for Man United

MANCHESTER, England, Feb 20 (AFP) - Argentine midfield star Juan Sebastian Veron has given Manchester United a boost ahead of a crucial two weeks for the club.
Veron has been suffering with a toe injury sustained on international duty with Argentina and there were fears he had suffered a fracture.
But he has confirmed he is fit to return to the United squad ahead of a 10-day period that sees them in action on three fronts.
"Going back a couple of years I had a similar knock on the same toe but that time I sustained a fracture. This time it´s only bruising, which is great news," Veron said.
Manchester manager Alex Ferguson will be delighted to have the 27-year-old midfielder back.
United travel to Bolton in the Premiership on Saturday before flying out to face Juventus in Turin three days later. They then have the League Cup Final against Liverpool.
But there is worse news for left-back Mikael Silvestre who could miss out on all three matches after limping off with an ankle injury during the 2-1 Champions League win over Juve on Wednesday.
The Frenchman took a blow attempting to tackle Christian Zenoni early in the second half and was eventually replaced by John ÔShea.
"Mikael has an ankle injury but we will assess it over the next 24 hours," Ferguson said.
However, having already played 42 club games this season - more than any of his team-mates - Silvestre might not be risked at the weekend

Cardetti about his injury at PSG

PARIS, Feb 20 (SW) - The argentinian striker of Paris Saint Germain, Martin Cardetti, is injured and says that what is happening to him is because of the time that he didn't play in River Plate because of contract problems.
"I knew that this could happen to me," said Cardetti, who isn't playing since two months ago because of a hamstring injury and is sure that it was because he went six months without playing after not signing his new contract at River Plate.
"I had to last to the end of my contract with River. I had to stay until the last moment. Then I had to do the negotiations of my transfer in Paris and that's why I missed the preseason preparation. It's normal then to have physical problems now."
When asked if he was angry with someone at River, Cardetti said: "I don't have any problem with anyone in River, what happened before is over now."
And when he was told him that in Argentina it was said that he had problems with the coach, Luis Fernandez, because he gave Cardetti a special training, "The Chapulin" said: "That's a lie, I don't have any problem and I don't think about having them. Nothing has happened and I have a very good relationship with the coach. I only said that I was sad about my injury because that doesn't let me play. It's true that he gave me a special training method and now I am waiting to get recovered for returning to the team. Then, I don't know what can happen afterwards."
When he was told that he could maybe return to the substitutions bench, Cardetti answered: "No problem, I will go, but first of all I need to play some football."
And about an analysis about his first six months at PSG and wether he competes with Ronaldinho, the striker said: "I am in conformity with what I have done until now. My first six months were good. Everyone has treated me very kindly. I have Heinze and Pochettino as team mates and they speak in spanish, like the coach. And about if I compete with Ronaldinho, I can say that we have a great relationship and being next to him it's easier to play."

    Copa Libertadores roundup
BUENOS AIRES, Feb 26 (SW) - With a goal scored by Chilean player Mirovan Mirosevic, Racing Club defeated Nacional de Montevideo 2-1 in the Centenario stadium in a match in group six of the Libertadores Cup and is now the leader with 4 points.
Striker Luis Rueda in the 59th minute and Mirosevic in the 66th scored for Racing while Horacio Peralta in the 63rd scored the goal for Nacional.
The match was played with 20.000 fans in the stands and the referee was the Brazilian Carlos Simon.
Nacional was insulted by their own crowd when the match finished and the striker Gabriel Alvez went directly to one of the stands and started a fight with the supporters instead of going to the dressing room.
About the match, Racing waited to see what Nacional would do and after 45 boring minutes, all emotions arrived in the second half because the team from Avellenada saw that Nacional wasn't having a good night and decided not to attack so much, maybe in conformity with the draw.
The absolute owner of the second half was Racing against a team that couldn't find the possesion of the ball and that was why Racing scored first.
But the happiness for Racing was only for five minutes because Nacional reacted and scored an equalizer. In this case the home team could only celebrate three minutes because Mirosevic scored the second goal for Racing.
This is the first victory ever that Racing could reach in the Centenario stadium.
In another match played on Tuesday night, Bolivar from La Paz, Bolivia, defeated Peñarol 5-2 in a match in group five.
Joaquin Botero in the 8th and 39th minutes, Limbert Gutierrez in the 44th and Marco Sandy in the 82nd scored for the Bolivians, while Nicolás Rotundo in the 18th and Carlos Bueno in the 20th did it for Peñarol. In the 79th minute Joe Bicera scored an own goal.
Peñarol had ended their match in Montevideo with Gremio in 2-2 while Bolivar had lost in the debut with Pumas UNAM in Mexico 2-0.
Gremio is at the top of the group with 4 points, Pumas and Bolivar have 3 and Peñarol 1.
Peñarol couldn't manage to defend the advantage that had it had in the score and in the actions during the first minutes of the match against a Bolivian team that didn't play very well and was confused. Then, the 3.600 metres that La Paz has above sea level made the players from Peñarol very tired and Bolivar started to be superior, managing to turn over the result in the first half.
In the second half Peñarol was totally tired and out of breath and couldn't stop Bolivar that didn't have any problem with winning the match.
The match was played in the Hernando Siles stadium with 15.000 supporters in the stands and the referee was the Argentinian Daniel Giménez.
In the last match played on Tuesday night for the Libertadores Cup, in Ecuador, Deportivo Cali from Colombia defeated Emelec 4-0 in a match of the group one.
With this result, the Colombians are the leaders of the group with six points.
The goals for the winners were scored by Carlos Castillo in the 22nd and 62nd minutes, and Giovanny Hernandez did the second one in the 49th minute with a free kick from 35 metres and Jairo Patiño scored the fourth goal of the night.
The next match for the Colombian team will be on March 11th against Libertad from Paraguay in the Pascual Guerrero stadium in Cali.

BUENOS AIRES, Feb 25 (SW) - The board members of River Plate made a new offer to the Turkish club FenerbahĐe that is in Buenos Aires negotiating the transfer of the player Ariel Ortega, who has said that doesn't want to play in Turkey anymore and wants to return to River.
According to informations from people linked to the negotiations River have now offered 1 million dollars for a year and a half loan of Ortega, and would pay it in three terms.
This offer is the last one that River make to FenerbahĐe for having the chance to reinforce the team with Ortega and it will be analized by the board members of FenerbahĐe in Turkey, from where the answer will come; wether they accept it or not.
The transfer-rights of Ortega belonged to River and to the italian club Parma, but the turkish spent 5 million dollars for having Ortega in their team so now they obviously want to recover part of the investment that they have done.

EXCLUSIVE: Milito of Racing Club about his possible transfer to Villareal

BUENOS AIRES, Feb 26 (SW) - The striker of Racing Club, Diego Milito, is in the plans of Villarreal who would agree to pay the five million Dollars that the Argentinian club wants for the transfer.
The offer from the Spanish team is accepted by Racing this week, according to what was said by a spokesman of Blanquiceleste, the company that is taking care of the financial interests of the club.
Ten days ago, scouts sent from Villarreal travelled to Buenos Aires and saw the player in action in the match of the first round of the Torneo Clausura in which Racing beat Huracan 1-0.
The board members of Blanquiceleste think that the transfer will be done because Villarreal failed in the attempt to buy the Mexican Antonio De Negris and will pay what Racing wants.
If Villarreal and Racing reach an agreement for the transfer, the player will be travelling to his new team in July because the team from Avellaneda is playing the Libertadores Cup and will not let the player leave before ending the participation in that competition.
About the chance of being transferred, the player said, from Montevideo, Uruguay, after playing against Nacional for the Libertadores Cup:
"I heard what was said in the press about the chance of being transferred to Villarreal but I don't think that it will happen before July. I am not in a hurry to be transferred and I hope to win the Libertadores Cup with Racing, so if something is arranged with my agent it will be surely from July on. I am very thankful to Villarreal that has showed interest in me but at the moment there hasn't been anything official; even I haven't been told anything by anyone."
