    Su-27SM

    Su-27SMK

Upgraded Su-27SM Airplane Maximally Approximates Fifth Generation Airplane
The Komsomol?Tsk-on-Amur Aviation Production Association is realizing the upgrade program for the Su-27 multirole fighters into the Su-27SM variant developed by the Sukhoy OKB. The first five Su-27SM fighters reached the Russian air force inventory at the end of 2003. A task was set in place for 2004 to complete state tests and upgrade 12 Su-27 fighters to comply in full with the air force tactical-technical task. The whole fleet of Russiâ?Ts Su-27 air force fighters is subject to the upgrade. This work is going on within the framework of the state defense order, and also using non-budgetary funds which are earned and attracted from Sukhoy Aviation Holding Company export contracts.
The upgraded Su-27 are distinguished by an appreciably increased combat effectiveness. An modified radar has been installed on them which allows the use of television guided missiles with the aid of prior target designation from the radar set and also to carry out bombing in poor weather con***ions and at night. The Su-27SM airplane is equipped with a new reconnaissance system.

Air Force Chooses Unsuccessful Method for Upgrade of Su-27 Fighters, Manager of Fazotron-NIIR Corporation Thinks
Russiâ?Ts air force has chosen an unsuccessful method for the upgrade of Su-27 fighters, the general director and general designer of the Fazotron-NIIR corporation, Aleksey Kanashchenkov, declared to an ARMS-TASS correspondent during the ceremony awarding the Golden Idea national prizes.
According to Kanashchenkov, during upgrade of the Su-27 into the Su-27SM variant, the airplane is provided only with the ad***ional capability of ?ooperating against the earth.? At the same time, the airplanê?Ts tactical performance and its combat effectiveness are remaining the same. The new modification is achieved as the result of the upgrade of the aircraft radar which provided operation against ground targets.
?oHowever, this radar is already old, it has been produced for more than 20 years. The upgrade which has been realized in this way is a ''patching of holes,'' which is ineffective and expensive,? Kanashchenkov declared.
In his opinion, for increasing combat effectiveness, it is necessary to equip airplanes which are being upgraded from the air force with a new generation of radars which, in particular, are being exported. ?oThe Russian air force deserves the equipment, of that level, which the Russian Federation is delivering to other countries,? Kanashchenkov emphasized.
Fazotron-NIIR has developed unified radars which have been adapted both for MiG and also for Su airplanes. The corporation is ready to upgrade the whole fleet at rather low prices of Russian combat airplanes by means of replacing the aircraft radar on them.
Recently, tests were completed of the newest ?oZhuk-MS? radar with a phased antenna array on an Su-30MK airplane. The work was carried out on order of the Sukhoy Aircraft Holding Company and paid for by KnAAPO. During the complex of tests, the airplane demonstrated characteristics which exceed the SU-30MKI in some parameters. ?oI am boldly able to report that this is the best radar architecturally and the characteristics provided by it for range and tracking in the forward and rear hemispheres exceed worldwide indicators,? Kanashchenkov declared.
Seven upgraded Su-27SM airplanes were transferred on 23 December by the Komsomol?Tsk-on-Amur Aviation Production Association (KnAAPO) for the Far East Air and Air Defense Army, where an air regiment is being formed. In 2005, KnAAPO will transfer 17 more aircraft to the Russian Federation air force. In December of last year, five Su-27SM airplanes were transferred to the Lipetsk Flight Crew Combat Training and Cross-training Center, where methods of execution of flights and combat usage were worked out.

Fifth Generation Airplane to Fly in 2007
Usually in December, they ask air force commander-in-chief, General of the Army Vladimir Mikhaylov, what new airplanes will appear next year. But Russkiy Kur?Ter decided to start the conversation with the CinC about what the distant future would look like for the fifth generation fighter and immediately received a sensational answer.
    - Vladimir Sergeevich, usually the military, when it is a question of new equipment, refers to the poor financing. And nevertheless, it is a question about the future. The pentagon maintains that in the U.S., fighter of the new, the fifth generation, will appear in 2008. Our project people always have had a competition with the Americans. Therefore, the question is about how far we will be behind in this business? Or, more concretely: when will what they still call the PAK FA in the air force fly ?" the future aviation complex for tactical aviation?
    - in 2007 our fifth generation airplane will fly. In particular, I have reported earlier to the supreme headquarters about this period for lifting the future tactical aviation air complex into the air, and as of today, I have not doubts in the possibility of this mission?Ts resolution. I recently visited the Sukhoy company where it is involved with analysis of the problems connected with the creation of the PAK FA. The electronic model of the fifth generation airplane, which defines its aerodynamic aspect and a number of other parameters, is fully ready. We are inciting the engineers to ?opick at it?, to find the greatest deficiencies as possible in order at this first stage to eliminate the defects revealed and to move ahead more quickly.
There are unresolved problems, in particular with the armament and avionics. One has to think how to use the import component of the project and whether it is worth doing altogether. This all is working moments, but on the whole we have moved ahead appreciably. Even ?" at the same time to some kind of degree with limited financing which existed in 2003 and 2004 and is in the plans for 2005. And nevertheless, in 2007 the fifth generation airplane will fly. I said it this way to Mikhail Aslanovich Pogosyan (Sukhoy company general director ?" author?Ts note): ?oIt is possible to put up the airplane even on 31 December, but ?" of 2007.?
    - Will the PAK be similar externally to any kind of presently operating aircraft? Especially since right now many tactical aviation airplane are undergoing upgrade considering the buildup on the fifth generation.
    - It will be a completely new airplane ?" that is what I can say for the time being. And as regards upgrades, we are doing them. Last year we made the Su-27SM. The aircraft turned out magnificently. The Su-27SM is close in its combat capabilities to the fifth generation airplane, but it will not reach them, because during these years the margins on the PAK will multiply.
One must note the important role of computer modeling in working on the fifth generation. Earlier we broke airplanes and engines while defining their strength properties. Right now on the computer screens, creating different con***ions, we see graphically the strength properties of all the assemblies and units. Computer modeling allows error-free calculation of possible variants and to select the optimal solutions.

According to the report of the Russian news website mosnews.com on 2 November, China has suspended the production of Su-27SK fighter jets under their Russian license, Russiâ?Ts Vremya Novostej newspaper reported on Tuesday, Nov. 2. According to Chinese military officials, these planes no longer satisfy the requirements of the Chinese Air Force.
The license to produce 200 fighter jets was purchased by China in 1996. The con***ions of the contract stipulated that the jets would be assembled at Chinese plants using Russian components. The value of the contract amounted to $2.5 billion. However, after assembling 95 jets out of the planned 200, the Chinese side addressed the Sukhoi Construction Bureau with a request to stop deliveries of the assembly kits. The request was made in May, and neither side disclosed the reasons for the contract being suspended.
Vremya Novostej quoted a source in the Russian delegation at Airshow China-2004 that opened on Monday, Nov. 1, as saying the Chinese side had requested the Su-27SK fighter jets be equipped with ad***ional guided anti-ship missiles. However, this model of fighter jets was not designed to attack targets at sea.
China has been building Su-27SK under license since the late 1990s
Representatives of the Sukhoi construction bureau presented the new model of Su-27 fighter jet ?" Su-27SMK at the airshow. This plane could satisfy all the Chinese requirements, because it is equipped with guided ?oair-to-seâ? missiles. However, it is unclear whether this new modification of Sukhoi jet will be delivered to China in the near future.
Ha ha, model Su27SK của Khựa không lắp 'Ỉợc tên lửa ''i hạm. Còn lối SU27SMK thi có. Chúng nó chuẩn bi Hoa cầy xin licence lắp vài chục chiếc JSF thôi. Hãi quá. Không cẩn thận anh em mình 'ến 'óng cửa 'i fn mày hết lỈợt.
