    After victory over Kaiserlautern
    Kahn: 'We're playing great football'

Bayern Munich crowned a busy week with a third high-scoring victory in succession and the top spot in the Bundesliga. After two 5-1 victories over 1860 Munich and Spartak Moscow, they produced another dynamic display to beat Kaiserslautern 4-1 (half-time 3-0) on Saturday afternoon. Bayern have yet to drop a home point in the Bundesliga this season.
"It's a long time since I last saw a Bayern team win with this level of consistency," said a satisfied vice-president, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, after the match.

The team's run of form has put paid to the opinion advanced in some quarters â?" including the club's own hierarchy â?" that Germany's most successful club side would have a difficult season after last year's Bundesliga and Champions League triumphs. "We had reckoned with an awkward year," continued Rummenigge. "But the reality is we're playing to a higher standard than last season."

Even Ottmar Hitzfeld couldn't hide his joy at the victory over Kaiserslautern. "After our poor start to the season, many people thought that the players had become complacent," he said. "That was the best possible response."

After 14 competitive matches without defeat and 14 goals in eight days, it is now being suggested that Bayern will face little resistance as they pursue a fourth consecutive league title. The players themselves are maintaining their composure.

"These matches don't win themselves," warned Hasan Salihamidzic. "So we have to keep working hard." The 24-year-old Bosnian is currently in outstanding form. He scored twice (a near-post volley and a penalty after 23 and 29 mins.) against Kaiserslautern and laid the groundwork for goals from Roque Santa Cruz (16 mins.) and Claudio Pizarro (91 mins.). Harry Koch's penalty kick in the 82nd minute raised few eyebrows in the Bayern camp. It was the first league goal Bayern have conceded at home this season.

"We're playing some great football at the moment," was Oliver Kahn's reaction after a seventh consecutive league victory. "But now is the time not to get carried away." Bayern appear to be coping well with a tight schedule of Bundesliga and Champions League fixtures. There is a previously unknown atmosphere of harmony amongst the players, who play host to Feyenoord on Tuesday evening (kick-off 20.45 CET).

"The secret of our success is that we're all working for each other," continued Salihamidzic. The players are quick to reject the notion that any sense of unity will disappear when the likes of Stefan Effenberg, Mehmet Scholl, Jens Jeremies and Carsten Jancker return from injury and Ottmar Hitzfeld's tactic of rotation is reintroduced.

Bayern's emphatic victory stole the show from the high-profile feud between Giovane Elber and Mario Basler, which had received extensive coverage in the media. "I have no problems with Mario," commented Elber. "We should meet for coffee sometime."
