    CALL FOR ADMISSION FOR PHD PROGRAMS UNDER XXVIII CYCLE

    Call for Admission in PhD programs at Politecnico di Torino (XXVIII Cycle)
    (deadline for submission of application: 22 October 2012)


    To apply for admission, you must:
    • already possess the Master of Science/Master’s Degree or obtain it by 31 December 2012. In the latter case, you must send, by fax at +390110906098, by 10 January 2013, degree certificate or self-certification* of graduation;
    • possess one of the following certificates of proficiency of the English language:
      • IELTS with minimum band 5.0;
      • TOEFL internet based test with minimum score 77;
      • Cambridge ESOL examinations - General English exams with minimum level PET, pass with merit;
        Or present an official declaration, provided by the University where the Bachelor or Master of Science degree has been obtained, certifying that “The medium of instruction is English” (all the courses must have been taught in English).
        If you are a citizen of a country in which one of the official languages is English, you are exempt from presenting a certificate of English.
        You can apply for admission even in case you will receive the certificate of English by and no later than 6 November 2012. In this case, you must submit all the documents requested (excluding the certificate of English) within the deadline of 22 October 2012. You will then be allowed to access Apply@polito.it until 6 November 2012, only to attach the certificate or self-certification* declaring knowledge of the English language.


    To fill out the application form, you must access the online application portal Apply@Polito which can be found at the bottom of this page.

    The portal Apply@Polito consists of 2 parts:

    The first is of registration where you will be asked for your personal details. After providing the required details, you will receive a username and password for accessing the second part and log in again.

    In case you are already enrolled (or currently attending) in a course at the Politecnico di Torino, you can log in by entering your matriculation number and password from the teaching portal (portale della didattica). You will find a link at your page which will directly take you to the second part of Apply@Polito.

    In the second part, you will find the menu of forms which must be completed for enrollment.

    It is necessary to complete each form or otherwise the application will be considered as incomplete!

    You can apply for multiple PhD programs. For each program, you will be required to deposit a non-refundable processing fee of € 30.00.

    Once payment is made, you cannot change the choice of PhD programs, but you can add a new PhD program, making another payment of a non refundable processing fee of € 30.00.

    You can pay online by cre*** card (VISA, MasterCard). At the end of the registration process, you will find a link which will guide you for the payment process.

    Until the payment is made, the application cannot be considered closed.



    You will be required *****bmit the following documentation:
    • copy of a valid identification document (both sides) bearing the photo and signature;
    • certificate or self-certification* of Bachelors of Science degree (1st Level), with relative marks, degree aware date and place;
    • certificate or self-certification* of Masters of Science degree (2nd Level), with relative marks, degree aware date and place;
    • certificate or self-certification* attesting the knowledge of the English language, with relative marks, degree aware date and place (as indicated above);

    • names and e-mail addresses of two professors/teachers of Italian or foreign universities that the selection board may contact to obtain the relevant data your personal and project evaluation;
    • any certificate with test results, GRE (General Test or Subject Test compatible with PhD program), GMAT or equivalent;
    • any other document that you think useful for strengthening your application (awards, professional activities, publications, etc.);

      * The extra-EU students can use self-certification only for the data and facts which can be backed up by Italian public administration and only if they are in possession of a valid Italian residence permit which will therefore be attached to the self-certification.


    For those who are in possession of a foreign degree: please be reminded that your titles will be evaluated in advance by a Committee on recognition of eligibility of your title.

    Europe : 2 Marie-Curie Ph.D. Fellowship Position for early-stage researchers in Online Social Networking


    The STRICT SociaLab (http://strict.dista.uninsubria.it), Department of Theoretical and Applied Sciences, University of Insubria, Italy (http://www.uninsubria.eu) announces the availability of 2 Marie-Curie Ph.D. Fellowship Position for early-stage researchers in Online Social Networking technologies.

    Position 1: Decentralized Access Control and Privacy Protection Services (for more information http://isocial-itn.eu/iSocial-INSUB-ESR6)

    Position 2: Privacy, Risk Analysis and Trust Management (or more information http://isocial-itn.eu/iSocial-INSUB-ESR7)

    The position are for three (3) years (with the possibility of extension to the 4th), starting in early 2013. The positions are funded by the European Commission under the Marie Curie Initial Training Network (ITN) program iSocial, which focuses on the design of distributed and scalable overlay networking and distributed storage infrastructures for open online social networks and for innovative social network applications that preserve end-user privacy and information ownership. The main objective of the iSocial Initial Training Network is to provide world class training for a next generation of researchers, computer scientists, and Web engineers, emphasizing on a strong combination of advanced understanding in both theoretical and experimental approaches, methodologies and tools that are required to develop Decentralized Online Social Networking platforms.     Successful candidates are expected to join the Ph.D. program of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Science, University of Insubria, to conduct original research in collaboration with the principal investigators of iSocial, and to contribute actively to the activities planned of the project (scientific publications, taking courses, secondments, participation to meetings and events, preparation of educational material, coordination of work, etc.).

    Preference will be given to highly motivated candidates with strong programming and analytical skills and a proven commitment to their studies. The working language will be English; knowledge of Italian is welcome but not required.

    Eligible applicants are required to have obtained the M.Sc. degree in computer science or areas related to distributed computing from an internationally recognized university. Excellent grades from courses in distributed systems, security and privacy, networking, programming languages, computer architectures, and theory of computing are expected. The applicants must have less than 4 years of full-time research experience after obtaining their degree. At the time of recruitment by the Department of Theoretical and Applied Science, University of Insubria, the early-stage researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Italy for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date.

    Students in their final year of Master education may also apply and if qualified, receive a con***ional offer. If the applicant has not completed her studies, she should include a written statement from the degree administration office (or equivalent department), confirming that she is enrolled on the final year of her education and stating the expected completion date. If the applicant receives a con***ional offer, the candidate should present the degree certificate to the Admissions Office at the time of the qualification exam.

    Marie Curie fellows enjoy good salaries and working con***ions, career development opportunities and work-life balance. We especially encourage women researchers to apply for the aforementioned positions. The monthly salary of a PhD student under Marie Curie iSocial ITN scheme at the Department of Theoretical and Applied Science, University of Insubria (Italy) is expected to be is approx 32k euros (year) after-tax.
