Performance moves.
Impressive torque and supreme smoothness - the hallmarks of outstanding engines are enjoyably evident in the new
BMW 1 Series. The high-performance 4-cylinder petrol engine uses double-Vanos technology and Valvetronic, the fully variable valve regulation system, to reach an output of 110 kW (150 bhp) and a top speed of 217 km/h. Double-Vanos is also built into the responsive 116i engine, which can deliver 85 kW (115 bps) and do 200 km/h max.

Quick change.
The smooth 6-speed manual gearbox in the new BMW 1 Series (five-speed in the 116i) turns dynamic handling and spontaneous acceleration into an experience that can be felt. Short gear shifts, perfect graduations and optimum exploitation of the torque band leave a convincing impression.
The optional 6-speed automatic enables comfortable driving while retaining high agility. It combines maximum torque when starting up with lower revs and reduced consumption in the upper speed range. Those who value an active driving style can also shift manually thanks to Steptronic.

The new BMW 1 Series telephone options enable you to share your driving experiences whenever and with whomever you want: choose from the optional car telephone, mobile phone cradle with Bluetooth interface and hands-free telephone function. A Bluetooth-compatible mobile phone can be connected using a separately available snap-in adapter and operated together with a navigation system via iDrive.
Pointing the way.
The optional navigation systems of the BMW 1 Series come with the iDrive Controller for easy use. The Controller is the interface for a range of other functions, such as cabin climate control, entertainment options and communication. Together with the iDrive screen, the Controller enables you to select functions and scroll through menus without being distracted from the road ahead.

Whether you choose the standard three-spoke or the leather sports option, you know that the BMW 1 Series steering wheel will fit snugly in your hands. Perfectly proportioned, the optional sports steering wheel sheathed in leather has integrated multifunction buttons: they give you direct control over the optional audio system and in-car telephone without so much as taking your hands from the wheel. Two other buttons can be programmed as you wish, another detail which enhances your personal choices.

An optional extra for the headlights of the BMW 1 Series, xenon technology minimises the impact of poor visibility at night and during bad weather. With high- and dipped-beam control, xenon headlights provide optimum illumination of the road ahead and the verge to your side: a clear increase in safety.
Showing trust.
The safety electronics of the BMW 1 Series react to serious situations with amazing speed. Crash sensors react immediately deploying the correct airbag at exactly the right time and inflating it to precisely the right degree.
All 1 Series models come with belt force tensioners and the airbag system. The electronic generator, battery and fuel pump are disconnected instantaneously, the central locking opens and the hazard warning lights are switched on.
