    PhD position: optoelectronics_ photovoltaic applications
    Research activity
The successful candidate will explore energy and charge transfer processes in organic/inorganic and fully organic nanostructures for photovoltaic applications based on colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals, conjugated polymers and metal oxides of different nature. Combining the use of both advanced spectroscopic techniques such as time-resolved Photoluminescence and Photo-induced Absorption spectroscopy and electrical characterizations, light has to be shed on the fundamental working mechanisms of light harvesting and charge generation and devices structures will be designed, fabricated and optimized consequentially.
    Required experience
The successful candidate will have a Master Degree in Physics, Physical-Chemistry, Engineering or related disciplines. Experience in experimental research performed at undergraduate level will be beneficial. In ad***ion, the candidate should be strongly motivated and possess good communication skills and be able to work as part of a team.
For ad***ional information, or to discuss possible research projects, please contact Annamaria Petrozza: annamaria.petrozza(at)iit.it
    PhD position: synthesis_hybrid photovoltaics
    PhD course title: Materials Engineering
    Research activity
Research is focused on the synthesis of conjugated polymers to be combined with nanostructured metal oxides for the development of hybrid photovoltaic cells. The optimization of both the processes of absorption of the solar light and interaction among the several device constituents will be taken into account for the design of new molecules. Attention will be paid also to the material processing, in particular to the infiltration of the organic moiety into the mesoporous structure of the inorganic counterpart. Thanks to the facilities and expertises available in CNST IIT@PoliMI, the test of the developed materials into device prototypes will be carried out, giving further support to the evaluation of the relationships between the molecular structure and the obtained properties.
    Required experience
Master Degree in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Material Science, Engineering or related disciplines (to be obtained before December 31st, 2010). Minimum knowledge of the English language: B2 level or equivalent (to be certified before September 30th, 2010).
Experience in experimental research performed at undergraduate level, especially if dealing with synthesis of organic compounds, will be beneficial. In ad***ion, the candidate should be strongly motivated, possess good communication skills and be able to work as part of a team.
For ad***ional information, or to discuss possible research projects, please contact Eleonora Valeria Canesi: eleonora.canesi(at)iit.it
    PhD position: synthesis_organic photovoltaics
    PhD course title: Materials Engineering
    Research activity
Research is focused on the synthesis of conjugated oligomers to be included in bulk heterojunction solar cells to yield multicomponent blends. The design of such species will be driven by the optimization of the photoinduced charge and energy transfer processes required for the solar harvesting. Suitable strategies to control the morphology of the active layer will be evaluated, considering both physical (annealing treatments) and chemical methods. Among the latter, the synthesis of covalently linked moieties in double cable structures, and/or the development of molecules to be used into interfacial layers will be taken into account.
    Required experience

In particular, the project to be carried out in the Group of Electrochemistry aims at the development of new probes and platforms for the electrochemical and electrochemiluminescent detection of important biomarkers.
    Program Description
Scientists working in the BioChemLig project aim at the design and characterization of new molecular/supramolecular functional nanoscale architectures for the development of ultra-high sensitivity biomolecules recognition platforms and engineered biocatalytic systems. The candidate should have a background in electrochemistry, analytical or physical chemistry in general and should be ready to interact with the other partners from the consortium as well as with other Italian and international research Groups. The successful candidate will participate in an integrative research project using a panel of methodologies including electrochemistry, high-throughput screening, immunoanalysis, ligation of macromolecules and nanoparticules. His/her research will aim principally to the development of new probes for the electrochemical and electrochemiluminescent detection of important biomarkers also taking advantage of the unique features of novel carbon nanostructures (graphene and carbon nanotubes). He/she will also receive comprehensive training in various fields such as combinatorial chemistry, immunoassays techniques, molecular modeling and nanobiotechnology.
