IIT Internship One

A six months internship for newly graduated students is available at the Nanophysics facility of the Italian Institute of Technology in Genova (Italy), headed by Prof. Alberto Diaspro.
Aim of research: Nanostructures functionalization with organic molecules enables the generation of functional hybrids with tunable properties in which organic and inorganic components operate in synergy. The surface of titanium dioxide nanoparticles can be functionalized with photochromic molecules, exploiting them capability to interact with carbonyl group of molecules. Bonding switchable photo-chromic molecules to nanoparticles we add fluorescent properties in selective way to the particles. The activity will focus on the study of optical and physical properties of the compound in order ******racterize a new optical probe for different scientific applications.
The candidate will be offered the opportunity to work with advanced equipment in a multidisciplinary and international environment
Qualification

• Degree in Physics, Chemistry or related disciplines obtained since not longer than 6 months

Skills

• Experience in material science
• Attitude to work in team
• Good knowledge of the English language

The gross salary is 1000 € per month.

Aim of research: Polymeric nanocomposites design is opportunely tune the nanofiller/polymer concentration, such to achieve a combination and/or synergistic enhancement of the properties of the individual materials. The achievement of this approach is often opposed by the dispersion difficulty. In our group we developed a novel technique to disperse titanium dioxide nanoparticles in acrylate polymers by pulsed laser irradiation. The candidate work will investigate the dependence of the process potency on the polymer structure.
The candidate will be offered the opportunity to work with advanced equipment in a multidisciplinary and international environment
Qualification

The research program aims to study properties close to semiconcavity/semiconvexity (but without Lipschitzeanity). According with the EU rules, the hired person is supposed to spend, within the three years of the position, six months in the "secondment" institution, which is Universite' P. & M. Curie (Paris 6).

Our Department offers a very good environment in Control and PDE's (well known colleagues are, e.g., M. Bardi, F. Ancona, F. Rampazzo, P. Soravia, M. Novaga). The salary consists of two parts: one is fixed (33,000 euros per year), while the other is automatically computed according to some parameters. The total amount should be in average at least 40,000 euros per year, before taxes.
