    The GKS Scholarship was established by the financial community in Singapore to honour then Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, Dr Goh Keng Swee, who helped foster Singaporê?Ts economic development and its growth as a reputable international financial centre. The GKS Scholarships are awarded to outstanding individuals from the Asia-Pacific region to pursue undergraduate studies in approved disciplines at local universities in Singapore.

    Course of Study

    The scholarship is tenable for undergraduate studies in Singapore commencing in Jul/Aug each year. The courses of study should preferably be relevant to the financial sector

    Eligibility

    The scholarship is open to students from Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, PRC, Taiwan, Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar.

    The scholarship is highly selective. Applicants should fulfill the following criteria:

    Concurrently apply for admission to Singapore universities for their course of study;
    Demonstrate leadership qualities and have good co-curricular activities records;
    Make private arrangements to sit for pre-admission tests such as GRE, TOEFL or GMAT; and
    Preferably be below 25 years of age.
    Terms of Scholarship

    The scholarship will cover the duration required for completing the undergraduate course (3 ?" 4 years). The scholarship will provide the following:

    Tuition and other compulsory fees;
    Return economy air passage to and from home country; and
    Annual Maintenance allowance.
    The award will be reviewed annually subject to satisfactory performance and academic results.

    Application Procedures

    Scholarship application forms and details are available at the Singapore Missions in the respective countries. Requests for application forms by post must be accompanied by a postage paid self-addressed envelope.

    Application for the 2011 Dr Goh Keng Swee (GKS) Scholarship will open in mid-November 2010.

    If you are interested in applying for the program, you must meet all the requirements stated below:

    Scholarship Awards within the Foreign Development Assistance Programme - offer for the academic year 2011/2012

    General information on the scholarship programme:

    The Government of the Czech Republic offers a number of scholarships within the framework of its Foreign Development Assistance Programme in support of the study of foreign nationals from developing countries at public institutions of higher education in the Czech Republic.

    These so called Government Scholarships are designed to cover the standard length of study:

    1) in Bachelor/Master study programmes plus one-year preparatory course of the Czech language (which is combined with other field-specific training). Government scholarships of this category are awarded to graduates from upper secondary schools who can enrol only in study programmes in which they follow instruction in the Czech language. Depending on the subject area, applicants are normally required to take entrance examinations at the respective institution of higher education. The scholarship award is con***ional upon a successful passing of entrance examinations;

    or

    2) in follow-up Master study programmes or Doctoral study programmes. Government scholarships of this category are awarded to graduates of Bachelor or Master study programmes, respectively, who enrol in study programmes with instruction in the English language.

    Scholarship applications together with the required attachments are to be submitted to the appropriate Czech Embassy in the applicant’s country before the deadline set by the Embassy so that the applicants’ dossiers reach the respective Czech authorities (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport) by 15 January each year.

    Students who, at the time of application, stay in the Czech Republic may submit the respective documents to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department for Development Co-operation, by 31 December of the preceding year at the latest.

    Foreign nationals who have been granted permanent residence in the Czech Republic are not eligible to apply for Government scholarships.

    A limited number of scholarships is offered to students from developing countries who file their applications with the respective National UNESCO Commissions.     Applications sent directly to the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport will not be processed.

    Overview

    The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce the opportunity to compete for the 2011 Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD Program) which is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State.

    The Global UGRAD Program will provide one-semester and academic-year scholarships to outstanding undergraduates for non-degree programs at accre***ed U.S. institutions. Scholarships will be available in all academic fields of study except Medicine, Nursing, Veterinary medicine, Pharmacology and Animal Care.

    The length and start date of the scholarship award will depend upon the applicant's interests, the need for pre-program English language training, as well as placement options and availability of funds. Students accepted into the full academic year program will travel to the U.S. in the fall of 2011. Students accepted into the one-semester program will travel in the fall of 2011 or in the winter (January) of 2012.

    Eligible Applicants Must:

    Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program and have completed first year of undergraduate study prior to starting their UGRAD Program.
    Have at least one semester or an equivalent term to complete at their home institutions upon completion of their UGRAD Program. The UGRAD semester or academic year must not be the last academic term of their undergraduate study.

    Be highly motivated non-elite or less-privileged undergraduate students who demonstrate leadership through academic work, community involvement, and extracurricular activities.

    Have a good knowledge of English with minimum TOEFL score of 500 or 173 on Computer based TOEFL, 61 on Internet-based TOEFL.

    Have no previous study experience in the United States.

    Participants should be 24 years or younger at the time of application.


    Application Instructions

    Interested students who do not already have an official TOEFL score of 500 or above should plan to take the Institutional TOEFL Practice (ITP) on November 27, 2010 at the Royal University of Phnom Penh. Registration for the ITP is available through the Educational Advising Center at RUPP (room 103) from Monday - Friday, with a registration deadline of November 22, 2010. Please contact Mr. Hang Chanthon for registration of the ITP at 023-884-320.

    Students receiving a 500 or above on the TOEFL - ITP are invited to apply for the Global UGRAD Program. The application and are available here (DOC - 106 KB).     5. Qualifications

    Prospective applicant must meet the following qualification criteria:

    ※ Applicant must not be a holder of Korean citizenship.
    (2) Should be under 25 years of age as of March 1, 2011.
    (3) Have an adequate health, both physically and mentally.
    ※ Persons who are pregnant or having severe illness may not apply.
    (4) Have finished or be scheduled to finish formal education of elementary, middle,
    high school as of March 1, 2011.
    ※ Exceptional acceptance for a person who will have finished high school as of September 1,
    2011 and who will be able to have level 3 in TOPIK until then.
    (5) Possess above 80% (out of 100%) in a grade point average (G.P.A.) of the whole school
    years of the high school attended or within top 10% among graduates in the same year.
    (6) Not at any time have received a Korean government scholarship for his/her undergraduate
    study before.
    (7) Not have enrolled in an undergraduate course in Korea before.
    (8) Preferential selection for applicants who are good at Korean or English.

    ① Applicants can apply for the program through more than one institution in charge of

    INSTITUTION.
    ※In case that s/he will be recommended by more than one institution, his/her
    application is to be rejected; if informed by more than one institution that s/he
    is selected as one of their candidates, s/he should make a decision as to which
    recommendation will be effective and let them know it.
    ①English Name Spelling in the application form MUST be exactly the same as in the passport.
    ※One copy of application for issuance of a passport is replaceable for a copy of passport.
    ②Application form and other program materials are to be filled out either in Korean or in
    English. And all of the materials should be A4 sized; if smaller, attach the material to
    an ad***ional A4 sized paper; if bigger, fold it up to be an A4 sized one.
    ③Regarding a high school grade tran, it should prove that your academic achievement
    satisfies 5-(5) above; otherwise, you should submit a certificate issued by the high
    school, which should include either an official seal of the school or a school principal’s signature.
    ④The documents such as certificates or credentials issued in languages other than Korean
    or English must include official notarized translation, which is to be put before the original.
    ⑥ Other documents except the ones written on a form prescribed by NIIED should contain their
    numbers and names on the top right. (ex.⑧High School Diploma)
    ⑦When you submitting the documents to the institution in charge of selection of candidates,
    the documents should be arranged in the order of the list of the required documents stated
    above. Each document can be stapled, but all of the documents should be put together using
    (a) clip(s): do not staple them altogether, or do not put them into a transparent file one by one.
    ⑧ Submitted documents will not be returned to the applicant.
    ⑨ Incomplete or incorrect documents are subject to rejection by NIIED.

    7. Scholarship Payment

    (1) Scholarship Period: March 1, 2011 ~ February 28, 2016
    (2) Scholarship Benefits
    ① Airplane ticket or airfare: The grantees will receive an airplane ticket or be paid an
    economy class airfare of the shortest route between their country and Korea when they come to
    Korea, and, thereafter, when they leave Korea after completion of their study.
    ②Monthly Allowance: 800,000 won per month
    ③Tuitions: The full tuition is exempted by NIIED and the entrance fee for the first
    semester by the host university.
    ④Settlement Allowance: 200,000 won upon arrival
    ⑤Repatriation Allowance: 100,000 won upon completion of studies
    ⑥Korean Language Training Expenses
    ※The full costs up to 1 year (NIIED pays directly to the language training institution)
    ⑦Medical Insurance: The grantees will be provided with health insurance for major accidents
    and illnesses during their scholarship period.
    (3) Notes
    ① NIIED does not compensate fees for the domestic travel both in the grantee’s country
    and Korea.
    ②Airfare for entry into Korea will not be provided to a grantee that has been staying
    in Korea for between the confirmation date of selection of scholarship students and
    the designated entry due (February 28, 2011).
    ③NIIED does not compensate fees for insurance of traveling to and from Korea.
    ④The medical fee is to be reimbursed through the insurance company to the grantee after
    s/he pays first
    ⑤ Any grantee who gives up his/her study during the scholarship period will not receive
    airfare and allowance for repatriation except for the cases approved by NIIED such as
    severance of diplomatic relations, war or other natural disasters.
    ⑥ Any grantee who quits the program in 3 months after one’s entrance into Korea, should
    refund all scholarship fees (The airfare of arriving Korea, settlement allowance, monthly
    allowance, Korean language training expenses, etc.).

    What we offer:



    • Scholarships are awarded for basic university programs (university degree, bachelor programs), or, in case the students have already completed studies in their home country, for Master programs
    • Support is provided in particular to students who want to take studies in the areas of technology, natural science and economic science
    • The scholarship is granted for studies in Austria. Scholarship holders are expected to complete their studies in Austria
    • Scholarships will not be awarded to students who are already studying in Austria
    • Support for up to 4 years, or for the minimum duration of the respective studies. Scholarships are granted for one year each. The extension of the scholarship will depend on the student’s success
    • Financial support for the tuition fees, living expenses and books of up to € 12.000,- for an academic year (further scholarships will be deducted from this amount)
    • Travel scholarship, if necessary, of up to € 1.000,- per year
    • Advice and support for the scholarship holders in connection with visa, insurance, language courses and search for accommodation
    • The Board of the foundation is exclusively responsible for the selection of students
    • The scholarship holders of the “Austrian Student Scholarship” are not required in any event to work for the Mondi Group after completing their studies
    • Maximum of 40 Scholarship holders (admission of 10 to 14 scholarship holders each year)
    What we require:


    Applications can be made by nationals of African, Asian, Central and Eastern European Countries and Austrian citizens, who:
    • can furnish proof of being eligible for admission to an Austrian university or a university in their respective country of residence (proof of eligibility for university admission in the country where the school-leaving certificate was issued)
    • are interested in studying at an Austrian university or technical college, or an Austrian school similar to these institutions and graduating from these
    • are not older than 23 years (upon expiry of the application deadline)
    Complete application documents must be received by the Austria Student Scholarship of the “Mondi Austria Private Foundation” by not later than May 31st.
    The following application documents are necessary to be taken into consideration for an Austrian Student Scholarship:

    • Resume (including passport photo)

    • Personal letter of motivation (Why you think you are the right candidate for the “Austrian Student Scholarship?”)

    Application for the Singapore Scholarship must be submitted on the prescribed application form. Please contact the Singapore Embassy / High Commission / Consulate-General in your capital city for a copy of the Singapore Scholarship brochure and application form.
    Applicants will be required *****bmit a typed-written essay of about 300-500 words. The essay is an important part of your application.
    All supporting documents have to be attached. Those supporting documents that are not in English must have a certified translation in English. Translation and certification of transcripts and academic records have to be done by your educational institutions.

    Please also note that most shortlisted nominees will take the entrance examinations set by NTU or NUS. All shortlisted nominees will also have to undergo an interview conducted by interviewers from NTU , NUS and SMU. The entrance examinations and interviews will be conducted in the respective ASEAN countries.

    Who is eligible
    Citizens of ASEAN member countries (except Singapore) are eligible to apply for the Singapore Scholarship.
    Candidates must have an outstanding academic record, a good command of English and meet the entry requirements for NTU, NUS and SMU. They are:
    Brunei Darussalam
    completed General Certificate of Education Advanced Level with a pass in English and 3 other ‘A’ level subjects
    Cambodia
    currently undergoing 1st year or 2nd year of undergraduate studies in a local Cambodian university
    Indonesia
    completed Indonesia SMU Ujian Akhir Nasional (UAN) with excellent academic results
    currently undergoing 1st year of undergraduate studies in a local Indonesian university is preferred.
    Lao People’s Democratic Republic
    currently undergoing 1st year or 2nd year of undergraduate studies in a local Laotian university
    Malaysia
    completed Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM)
    completed General Certificate of Education Advanced Level with a pass in English and 3 other ‘A’ level subjects
    completed UEC examinations
    Myanmar
    completed at least 1st year or 2nd year of undergraduate studies in a local Myanmar university

    Candidates have to complete the above requirements within a 3-year period prior to the date of application.
    What is offered
    The Singapore Scholarship is tenable for the minimum period required to obtain the respective degrees at Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore or Singapore Management University. It covers full tuition fees and a living allowance of S$4,300 (covering meals, transport, textbooks and course materials during school semester) per academic year. In ad***ion, a separate full accommodation allowance based on the room rates at each university or designated hostel will be provided during school semester.
    One return economy class air ticket is provided for the Scholar’s passage from his/her home country to Singapore for the duration of studies determined by the Singapore Government. No ad***ional assistance will be provided for other travel expenses.
    A recipient of the Scholarship may not concurrently hold any other Scholarship, Fellowship, Grant or Award without the prior approval of the Singapore Government.
    There is no bond imposed on the Scholarship by the Singapore Government. The Scholars are expected to return home to contribute to the development of their countries upon graduation.
    The scholarship is open to applicants who have not gained admission and are currently not studying at the Singapore Universities.
    The Singapore Government reserves the right to terminate the Scholarship if the Scholar’s academic progress is unsatisfactory or his conduct is in violation of the university’s rules and regulations.

    What does the Singapore Scholarship offer?
    The Singapore Scholarship is a Government to Government Scholarship for students who are citizens of ASEAN member countries (except Singapore) and is for a full-time undergraduate study at the Singapore university (NUS, NTU or SMU).
    What does the Singapore Scholarship cover?
    The Singapore Scholarship covers full tuition fees, living allowance of S$4,300 per annum and accommodation fee based on the room rates at each university during the school semester. One economy class air ticket from scholar’s home country to Singapore at the commencement of their undergraduate course and one economy class air ticket from Singapore to their home country upon successful completion of their undergraduate course. No further financial assistance will be provided for other travel expenses as well as any ad***ional expenses/fees incurred during the Overseas’ Exchange Programme, Overseas’ Attachments or Summer Courses taken up by the scholars with their respective universities.
    What is the difference between this Award and other Scholarships Scheme?
    Under the Singapore Scholarship, the Singapore Government will not impose any bond on the scholars. However, all scholars are expected to return home at the end of their studies in Singapore to contribute to the development of their country. This is different from other undergraduate scholarship schemes, where the graduating students would be obliged to work in Singapore for certain period of time to repay the tuition grant from the Singapore Government. In the case of the Singapore Scholarship, the Singapore Cooperation Programme is sponsoring by paying the full tuition fees for these ASEAN scholars who therefore do not need to apply for the tuition grant with the universities.

    Is there a quota set for each ASEAN country?
    The scholarship is awarded based on merit. Candidates must have an outstanding academic record, a good command of English and meet the entry requirements for the universities. Shortlisted candidates have to sit for an entrance exam and interview at the respective ASEAN countries except for candidates from Brunei and Malaysia who will only sit for the interview.
    Q :Why do some scholars need to undergo bridging courses?
    There are considerable differences in the school syllabus and educational system between some of the ASEAN countries and Singapore. Thus our scholars will benefit from a one-year bridging course before starting their undergraduate studies. During the bridging programme, they will be given tuition in English, Maths and other core subjects such as Economics and Physics.

    The academic year for the Singapore universities starts in July/August.
    What are the application procedures and supporting documents to be attached with the applications?
    Applications must be submitted on the prescribed form and must be endorsed by the respective recipient Government. All supporting documents must be certified true copy by a Education Institution. Applicants have *****bmit an English translation for any supporting documents that are not in English. The following documents have to be submitted with the application form:

    • High school exam results slip
    • University transcripts (if applicable)
    • Secondary school exam results slip
    • Ad***ional results slip eg. TOEFL, SAT
    • Academic awards and extra-Curricular activities certificates for the last four years
    • University entrance exam results (if any)
    • Copies of the Birth Certificate and Passport
