Một phạm nhân khi chưa bị toà kết án hoặc chưa đủ yếu tố khẳng định cấu thành tội phạm sẽ được gọi là "alleged criminals". Một "alleged murder" sẽ chỉ là nghi án sát nhân, chứ chưa phải là vụ án mạng. Khi ta chưa dám chắc lý lẽ nào đó là hoàn toàn đúng thì gán cho nó cái mác "alleged reason" là chắc ăn, sau nếu có sai thì đố đứa nào bắt bẻ câu chữ được.
Alleged evidence = tình tiết/ dữ kiện/lbằng chứng được cho là đáng tin nhưng chưa kiểm chứng. Theo góc độ nào đó, Alleged evidence khá gần gũi với khái niệm prima facie evidence.
Ở ngữ cảnh hẹp hơn, có thể bổ sung evidence đó là pro hay against. Tuy nhiên, không phải cứ evidence của plantiff sẽ có tính chất cáo buộc, của defendant ắt phải biện hộ. Không hiếm trường hợp các bên đưa ra cá bằng chứng trung dung, không thể hiện trực diện pro hay against phía nào.
