This is the frequent case for those who feel a special attachment to their ships, planes, boats, etc.. that even ''it'' does them no justice for they are to those owners, more than just objects but beings. Women often symbolise something great, that are often selfless, silent, though without much saying, are working their guts off, thus the term "she" is applied to call those objects.
Just why we call ships "con" tau is also beyond me. ;)

I think Sil''s answer is quite resonable.
I would appreciate if somebody explains how to use "yet" in other cases rather than in perfect tense. I sometimes use it but never understand why. I got confused when a friend of mine asked me this.
For eg, I could use either
"He failed yet he was still happy"
    or
"He failed but he was still happy"
Another one : Yet it is like that!
I learnt English from speaking on the streets rather than being to attend a class and now I use as it is, regrdless why it is . No grammars in my mind at all .
    Why do I use that?

The feminine pronoun she has been used since the Middle Ages to refer *****ch inanimate objects as Earth, the sea, and ships. It has also been frequently used to refer to female personifications of nations and cities, as in õ?oSan Francisco never failed *****rprise her summertime visitorsõ? (Edwin Chen). This practice may have originated, and was certainly encouraged by, reference to words that were grammatically feminine in the language from which they had been translated. Thus, the soul was sometimes conceived as female at least in part because it is a feminine noun in Latin (anima). A further influence was the personification of certain objects, such as the Moon, and certain ideas, such as fortune or philosophy, as goddesses by ancient writers. 1
Whatever its origin, many writers still observe this usage today. People commonly refer to cars, musical instruments, and other objects with which they have close association with the pronoun she. But others find this practice objectionable because it seems to ascribe stereotypically feminine characteristics to these entities and because it lacks balance in that people tend not to personify objects as masculine. These objections contributed to the decision by the National Weather Service to discontinue its practice of identifying hurricanes by womenõ?Ts names only. Now you can be subjected to a hurricane of either ***.

Từ yet trong tiếng Anh có rất nhiều nghĩa, trong ví dụ thứ nhất thì nó là liên từ, bạn nói đúng rồi, yet có nghĩa bằng với but (but, regardless of this)
Còn trong trường hợp thứ 2 thì Brit cũng chưa hiểu câu đó có nghĩa thế nào, bạn đưa ra context thì sẽ dễ hiểu hơn. Có vẻ "Yes, it is like that" nghe hợp lý hơn nhỉ
Sau đây là 1 số nghĩa của từ yet:
    Adverb:
    1. up to now or the time specified
    Ex: He hasn?Tt gone yet.
    2. At the present time
Ex: We can?Tt leave just yet.
    3. still, in the time remain
Ex: There is yet a chance for peace.
    4. sooner or later.
Ex: She will thank you yet.
    5. Now or at a particular time, implying continuance from a preceding time.
Ex: We could hear him yet.
    6. In ad***ion
Ex: he was yet more kind.
    7. as much as, even
Ex: He did not come, nor yet write.
    8. nevertheless
Ex: He is comfortable, yet lonely.
    Conjuction:
    1. but, regardless of this.
Ex: She seems to be happy, yet she is in trouble .

I''d like 2 add some more inf on what Sil said. yes, "he"/"she" is used when saying abt an object ''coz it is the caller''s beloved thing then the caller assumes it a human/friend. Then we have she/he.
Many say that it''s the nature of the object which makes people call it he/she ("he" for a strong/solid/..... object, "she" for tender/.... one). But I think it also depends on who the caller is. If a male, he will call the object "she"/"her" and female --> "him"/"he".
hê hê, now that people may ask me why the man calls the thing "she/her" (of opposite *** to him). The answer is: of course, it is natural that my female friends receive too much more sentiment from me than male ones. hê hê lần nữa.
Sorry 4 writing this too late. It may not do any good to pvnguyen. but i think late better than nothing. may somebody appreciate this later on.
