Vietnamese students often think that they can not master spoken English, if they learn English in Vietnam. And, to me, everyone on this board seems to share the same idea.

You might be right when you say it's almost impossible to speak English like a native speaker. I know people who have learnt English for years yet can not speak very well because they learned the wrong ways.

Throughout 3 consecutive years of research, I've come to contact with a lot of young people who CAN speak English like native speaker. They, of course, come from different schools, have different backgrounds; but all of them share the same trait, that is a can-do attitude. Everybody says "No, I can't do it", while they say "Yes, I can and you can do it, too!"
And you know what, if you think you can do it, somehow that very way of thinking itself gets you halfway to where you want to go.

Trust me, if you want it enough YOU can do it. Yes, of course, you can!

    Good luck
    Longarm

P/S: Next time, I'll discuss further about spoken English and how to learn it well.

    Have a nice day!

Welcome to English club, Mr. Huck I'm really glad to see your nickname here. Do you mind if I change your title into English club memer (in fact I changed it without asking you for permisson. I'm sorry )
You know, when I first saw your nickname on the online members list, I thought you were longatum. You can obviously see right, longarm and longatum, they look extremely similar. I'm looking forward to reading your next posts. hihi I can say for sure they will be absolutely helpful and enjoyable. We - members ?" will be able to have both relaxing and meaningful moments. Well, I mean we may have "giây phút thư giãn và đầy ý nghĩa", I don't know if "meaningful" is appropriate. Hopefully, we'll have a good relationship between English Club TTVN and NeoSystem.
Have a nice day, Mr. Huck as well as other EC members,
    Britney.

To my thinking, probably the most important things when Vietnamese want to speake English well, they should do the sound ending and sound linking as well. Many times I've tried to figure out the rule of the Pronunciation to help my friends speak English better. But you know what, now I know not only learn the rule of Pronunciation but also get the native people to speake to. Well, in Vietnam I bet that it's impossible to do that, 'cause there is just a small number of native people in there.

You are probably familiar with these two phrases-spoken English and written English- when you started learning English. Written English is always systematic and structured. Itâ?Ts the letter of the language. On the other hand spoken English is intuitive, fluid and creative and itâ?Ts the spirit of the language. Spoken English existed before written English and spoken English develop and change dramatically over time while written English stays mostly the same over a long period of time. Therefore when you learn to speak English, itâ?Ts extremely important that youâ?Tve got to use it and deeply emerge yourself in it and start making English your second language.
EFL(English as a foreign language) and ESL(English as a second language)
Many students in Vietnam are learning some English these days. Most of them are either being taught or trying to learn to speak English as a foreign language, not as a second language. Therefore, English is always strange and foreign because it really doesnâ?Tt have much to do with its learners. It might be cool to know some English but English hardly has become a part of its learners, and being able to speak English like a native speaker is somewhat impossible and unattainable.
Learning a language requires its learners involved in an overlapping process which comprises 3 important steps. It takes time and efforts to go through all of those 3 steps. Every student of English is familiar with the first 2 steps but not the third one which is the most critical one. Those steps are:
    1. Learning by heart.
    2. Acquiring new rules.
    3. Forming habits
Next time Iâ?Tll discuss in details all those 3 steps with a strong emphasis on the 3rd one - how to form native speakerâ?Ts language habits and create your own styles of communication.
    Have a nice day!

Very interesting but unconvincing, longarm. There is no reason that one could master a spoken language without practicing it every day, which is almost impossible if one is not in the country of that language. I only come close to speaking French fluently after more than one year living in France, though my written French is not far from being impeccable (phét tí).
Here we study English with native speakers, but 2 hours per week are not sufficient. So I will be very eager to read your posts, which might help me speak a better and more flexible English.

If you method really works, that would be a great help for all of us, vietnamese who are trying to master English. I've been using English for years. Very often do I say "I can" (ah .. but not yet "I do" .. hihi). And yet, every once in a while I notice the difference between a native speaker and myself. Mostly, it lies in the way we react to circumstances. It seems that many commonly used sentences are imprinted in the back of my mind, and sometimes they just pop out without thinking. With practice and as time goes, I seem to improve the way they pop out. ie. they fit well with the on going conversation. However, that does mean those sentences never appear in a silly way uncontrolably. Without a constant practice, I dont see how one can stop this from happening and make it a natural reaction.
