The foreigners of the class have the Culture and Communication Course in this second semester. We all have a project to do. Every group contains about 3 or 4 peoples. My group is made up of(is composed of) Thuy, Lierre (a chinese girl) and me. We''ve decided on our subject. We will be talking about Asia because we all are Asian. Our radio project will concentrate on Asia with information, culture, tra***ion and music... I think It''s very interesting because the subject is very vast and we have a lot of things to talk about.
But, the probleme is that the exams are arriving in 1 week, so we don''t have time to do anything for the moment.
Yesterday, there was a very interesting conference about the Tibetan probleme. I haven''t heard about that in Vietname because The Vietnamse governement avoids spreading these information. So I thought that It was an opportunity to have more knowledge about the world.
First, One saw a film about some Tibetan people. It''s a sad film that talks about the Tibetan situation. Next, a member of the association France-Tibet was replying many questions, specially The Chinese''s questions. Cheng, a student in the 3 rd year, asked a lot of questions, just for ask how the film was made and some information. He seemed to be very dissatisfied because he didn''t know much information and It was difficult to accept the reality of his country''s actions. I liked the way the man answered theses
questions. He was very calm and he talked with the words that are very convincing. According to me, being calm with people who haven''t the same idea is very diffcult!
Finally, the conference stopped about 11pm, and I was very satisfied to have taken part in this.

First of all, I will be telling you an old chinese story about luck.
A long time ago, a chinese family that were very happy because they had enought money to live. One day, they lost one horse. Nobody knew where the horse was so they told each other that it were a sign of bad luck. The owner of the house, M. Lee said It were not actualy bad luck. No-one believed him. Suddenly, 3 days after that, the hourse returned with a female horse!
The son of M. Lee liked the horse very much. He rode the horse every day. But unfortunately, when he was on the horse, he fell off and his foot was broken. Like the first time, they told each other that it was a sign of bad luck and M. Lee asserted that It was not. 2 months later, the regional king needed many young men to attack another region. As his son could''nt stand up he had to stay in home. This was finaly the biggest luck for this family!
According to this story, Luck exist but it''s sometimes difficult to realize this. Sometimes luck becomes bad luck and bad luck becomes luck.
The question is still :what is the role of luck in our success?
When we look at someone very rich like Bill Gates, we just see in general what he has and not what he has done to realize(archieve) his dream! M. Gates worked night and day before becoming the most rich man of the world. The problem is, currently, there are many young men who work very hard but they haven''t got success yet. So what''s the solution for our question? Personally, I believe in destiny. We are born with our destiny. Biology science has showed that we are all different. More than 8 billion people are differents each other just because we have the different DNA. This is the code which decides our intelligence, our quality... we can surely improve it but nevertheless there''s always the limits we can''t overcome. But one day, I read a journal which was very strange! It said that in our life, we don''t use 20% of our capacity even the most famous scientifist like Einstein(???). I don''t really believe this journal because It didn''t show how they calculated this...

If some-one says that they work very hard but they don''t have luck. I answer that "probably". But I think that working hard isn''t enough! One should not wait for the luck, but rather trying to look for the luck The probleme is like the story in the beginning: sometimes we don''t realize our luck. We have just a way to do: try and try. One must accept the defeat. Defeat is also a precious experience...


For example, I will be telling you my story. Every year, the French gouverment has many scolarships for students who are good at learning. The scolarship is called "Excellent scolarship Eiffel". This is the biggest even most difficult scolarship in France.

My brother and I worked a lot last year. The energy he used was compensated: he has attained this glory.

After that, I thought that I could have this scolarship because I have the same results as my brother. My brother''s success was helping me to have energy to work and to reach the best result.

And I have the best results at learning too. But the problem is, finally, I didn''t get the scolarship!

I can say that I don''t have luck, because I spent 1 year working very hard and I didn''t reap anything... But not at all, I can say that I have reaped something after all, this is the experience and the will. Sometimes one must accept defeat to perfect themselves.

I will be telling you about my vacation that started at 4 o''clock in the Friday evening. I have been waiting for that for long time. Before, I intended to meet my friends in Lyon. They are my old friends who were with me in the same school. I always keep the contact with them.
But before going to Lyon, I intended to go in my French friend. She invited me to go to her house in Toulouse. Toulouse is one of the biggest French city. There''s the big company that produce planes: his name is "AirBus". This is the reason I very want to go to Toulouse and to take a look.
We left Rennes at 5 o''clock by car. There were a student who wanted to go to Toulouse and his car had some free places. So my friend and me could go with him.
But we were not lucky because his car were broken after 3 hours in the car. So we had to return to Rennes. It was very sad, I thought that I had any look this year, that I was unhappy...
We decided to leave in vacancy by train. As we bought the tickets very late, we needed 10 hours to go to Toulouse from Rennes instead of 3 hours by TGV. It wasn''t very excellent to wait (this is the necessary duration to go to Vietnam, my country).
It wasn''t very boring to travel by train because I could look at the landscape. Through the pane I saw the fields, the trees, and sometimes the mountains. I spoke much with my friend and when I was tired, I slept. And my Séverine, what did she do? Nothing special, she re-examined her lessons for she had to pass a contest. She wanted to change school. She was boring with sciences and now she wants to study trade and economy. This is her choice.
When we arrived in Toulouse, we were waiting for Severine''s mother. She was late because of congestion. Moreover, the train came at the time when there were too much car in the way.
Finally, she arrived. She took us to her house. We took 30 minutes to go there. I have the occasion to look at the landscape. This is the first time I go to the French countryside. And I think I have the lucky to do it
The Séverine''s house is rather large compared to the house in the city. There''s a garden and a great space to live
In Toulouse, I has opportunity to visit the town center. It was interesting for me to visit this city because it architecture is very different compared to Rennes and Paris. The color of the city is red because the most houses there are created by the red bricks. However, the Rennes houses are formed by the stone. Besides, I had visited the biggest church in Toulouse
Now I talk about the Séverine''s family.
There''s 4 persons in this house: her parents and her brother. They were very agreeable to me. In the Séverine''s house, I has occasion to eat many european dish especially cheese. Mister Hugues is the father of Severine. He conducted me to the mountains like the Pyrénées. And also, I has gone to the sea with Séverine, her mother and a friend of mine. It was an unorgettable souvenir for me

I have a lot of friends in France because I was in a Bilingual class. They''re studying economic in the university. There, I could see my friends, to talk with them and to know their life. They''re very well, each one has a project to do in the future.

2 important fields of economy in Toulouse are aeronotic and farming. Then, there''re a place called city of space. Do you know? This is a place which helps us to understand science: especially science of space. I asked some of my friends for going to there with me. My friends were very interesting in this but they were tired and seek before the depart day. So I''ve gone there on my own

Each day, I had a lot of activity. I has taken part to the birthday of a friend of Séverine, and we went to the discotheque. It was the first time I had been in a nightclub. That astonished me much

After a week, I said goodbye to the Séverine''s familly and went to Lyon to see my dear friends. I was in my friends''s room. It was very comfortable for me because I had the place to sleep and to relax. The room is in the city center, so I didn''t lost many time to talk a walk in the city.
My friends were very happy te see me, and me too. They did a lot of thing for me like vietnameses dish.
We had done a lot of activity. We went to the park, the greatest park of Europe. We had seen a lot of films...
Finally, I leaved Lyon in the and of my vacation.
To conclude, I say that I enjoyed my vacation, this is the vacation that I can''t forget in my life!

Now, I will tell you what I have done already this summer. After coming back to Vietnam, I met my friends and we went out. It is been 2 years since I met them, so I was very glad to see them again. We went to a restaurant that we used to go to two years ago and sang karaoke. I took a lot of photos there. Do you remember that you and I sang a song in the last IFC festival?"it was very fun!
This summer, I have 2 goals to complete: health and english. For health, I participated in a class named ?oBioenergy?. A physical doctor taught me how to use my energy to prevent and treat diseases and to maintain health. I think that it is very useful. Also, I exercice each morning such as running around the park near my house. I feel very strong and jubliant
For english, do you remember that I told you I would have some americans who came to my house this summer. They have 3, they are very likeable. Sometimes I talk with them to practice my english. Therê?Ts 2 young girls who are often absent, so I don?Tt have many occasion to talk with them
Last week, it was my birthday. I organized a festival in my house with my friends. I received a lot of gifts from my friends. 3 americans give me also gifts
After the festival, I took part to the travel in DaLat organized by my friends. It was an excellent travel. The unique time I was in Datlat is when I was 5 years old. So now I don?Tt remember anything. Da Lat is very beautiful with the nature, waterwalls, springs, trees and tra***ional food. If you went to Vietnam, you would be interested by this
Now I study english in a famous english school in Vietnam. Each week therê?Ts some hours that americans teach. I think that listening is the most difficult in English. Every day, I listen some news on the BBC and VOAnews, and try to understand it. I spend also my lifettime to do grammar exercices in the Murphy?Ts book, and write somethings in english to practice. I have to try my best this summer because I have time now and I want to go to America 2 years later! I must use my time with the best performance.

Now I want to tell you about my yesterday. It?Ts a day I can?Tt forget.
In the morning, when I was checking my mail. I would learn Enlish by writing a mail or watching some English films. Suddenly, 3 americans, Rosely, Elisabeth and Susan, they were passing by my door. I saw them and I said ?ohellô? to them. They asked me wether I would be busy today. I thought that they?Td invite me to do something. I answered: ?ono, I have nothing to do today?
So, they invited me to go with them to the children?Ts house, this is a place where one brings up abandoned children (vien tre mo coi). I had never been in the place like this so It was a very interesting occasion to visit the children without parents
We used the bus to go there. In the bus, we talked about everything and others looked at us because we talked in English.
When we arrived, I saw a lot of children there. In the beginning, I was a little chock because these children had some malformation (di tat bam sinh). Quickly, I understood what to do, I played with them. I tried to make them smile.
There were also a lot of young volunteered students (sinh vien mua he xanh) with the blue shirt who were playing with these children. They were also very likeable with the children. I tried to do something like them. These students are in the ?oForeign trade school? (truong ngoai thuong). I made the accquaintance of some girls there. (I writed ?ogirls? because the most students there are girls). I was a little surprised because they had my ages and a girl was in the Le Hong Phong high school (my school). A girl, Giang, invited me to go with these students to Cuchi to visit the orange agent victims. And I answered OK!
I also went downstairs and I fed a child. His name is Phu. I was very lucky because he ate very quickly and fast, I didn?Tt have any difficulty to feed him. Howerver, for another child, it was not easy and it taked a lot of time
I met a french. I knew he is french because some girls told me. And I tried to talk with him. In the first instance, I couldn?Tt understand what he said for I thought He was speaking ?English. 1 minutes later, I begun to understand, I think the main cause was that It?Ts been a long time that I didn?Tt speak french and I incessantly speak vietnamese and english!
We leaved at 11 ô?Tclock. But an accident happened. When we were waiting for the bus, a young vietnamese man threw a stone into Elizabeth. That time, I was looking for the bus information and I didn?Tt see anything. So, I was very sorry for Elizabeth because it would make a bad impression about Vietnam. I got very angry fot that. But I got right after.
Rosely presented us a french restaurant for lunch. In reality, I didn?Tt want to go there because I had been in French for 2 years so I knew a lot of french dish. But, Elizabeth and Susan were very pleasant with a french restaurant hence I was agreed

It''s been a long time I didn''t write my journal. Now I have a lot of think to tell you. First, the "green summer" campaign has just finished, I won''t see the very likely girls of the "foreign trade school" anymore in the orphanage. but I think that I will go to this school just to try to understand something about trade and...to see the girls in this school. I always wonder how they are because girls in this school are very famous in this town

Now I tell you about a girl. She''s our house servant and she''s a people of an ethnic minority: khemer. She can speak khemer language, this is a language used by Cambodian. I learned some cambodian words from she such as "hello'', "good night"... She''s a very special people for me because she lived in Tra Vinh, a very poor contryside of south Vietnam. She told me how people live there... This is for me a very strange world I''ve never lived. One day he told me that living in Vietnam is a hapiness. I answered that if we have money, living in Vietnam is very great. But she replied me :"No, I am happy without a lot of money!" These word surprised me much. I won''t forget it

Elizabeth and Susie have leaved Vietnam to go to America. They said that they love Vietnam and It was very sad to come back to America. They just were with me sometimes because they have a lot of relatives persons here and she spent time with them. But the time I was with them, for me, was a very specious time to relax, to understand Americans and to practice my English. I will write them some letters

Now there are still Rosalee in my house. She''s a 60 years old women but she''s very youthful and good-hearted. All her life, she helped people a lot. When her husband died, she accepted the doctors to take her husband''s eyes to treat medically others. And 2 people could see everything owing to her. Now, when she''s in Vietnam, she goes to the orphanage to play with crippled children and to feed them 3 days in a week. After being back to America, she''ll go to Mexico to teach women there to sew. She told me that the Mexico living stand is worst than Vietnam. A lot of people there don''t have place to live. Some of them give up the country to go to Amercan. They don''t have job and beg everyone. She took pity too much on them.
Now I spend hours after hours to speak with her. I fell that my English is improving every day. Now I can understand very well what she said and also the BBC''s radio. I won''t waste this good chance to improve my English

As regards my friends, I organized a lot of parties because a friend would go to France to work, and one would go to Nha Trang. We often sung Karaoke and now I think that we''ll organize different activities for not being bored. Maybe, we will cook something together at one''s house. This afternoon, It will be a birthday party of a friend, after this party, I will go to the ballet with Rosalee. So I won''t go to the Viet Mi union to learn English. I think that just Saturday is very important for me because the teacher on this day is American. So I can hear american voice.

Besides learning English and being out with friends, I often go somewhere to bye gifts and stuff for France. There''s a lot of stuffs to buy

It''s been some weeks that you leaved Vietnam. I write this mail to inquire after you: How do you live and work now? And could you send me the photos that you took in the last festival when we ate "banh xeo"?
As to me, yesterday Roselee called me for going with her to met some students. You know, like you, she knows a lot of vietnamese students and sometimes they invite her to eat something, to play games... and practice their english. Me too, I speak a lot with Rosalee. This is a great idea because she speaks a lot, but not like you, she doesn''t often correct my English. I hope that if you find some mistakes in this mail, you will spend a moment to correct it. I fell my english is improving every day. In the beginning, I couldn''t understand too much, but now I understand quit what Rosalee says and I''m very glad about it. Every day I listen to the BBC radio and I understand more every day, it''s very great
This afternoon I will go to the birthday party of my friend. It''s been 2 years since I was in her birthday. It will be a very special day! And after, at 7pm, I will go to see the Ballet with Rosalee!
I listened to piece of music that Susie played, I liked it. I hope that Susie will be a great player!

I was very happy to hear from you. Rosalee has been emailing us and telling us about the fun things you are doing with her. She told us about bowling and about the ballet. Was the ballet fun? I went to hear the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on Saturday night with my sisters. It was really nice. Your English is very good, your hard work is really making a difference! I am glad that Elizabeth, Rosalee and I could help you with your English. I really enjoyed getting to know you. Thank you for everything you did for us in Vietnam. We enjoyed your bedroom Thank you for rides, food, and many laughs!! Tell your mother that I found a key that belongs to one of the cabinets. Maybe she would like me to try to send it to her. Was it ok that Elizabeth and I would correct your English? I hope so Your email to us is very nice. I think that the pictures from banh xeo are on the picture CD that I gave Rosalee. Maybe you can look at those with her and save them on your computer. Tell me if you cannot find them and I will try to email them to you. I am glad that you like my piano CD I have been busy helping with camps for high school students at my college. Last week we had soccer camp and this week we have music camp. It is fun. I think your work is very intersting: you seem not to finish your great summer yet with planty of camps... Your work explains why you are so dynamic, sociable. Your image when you and Elizabet played with young students in the park, still stay in me. The way you roused them was very impressive!
Of course I very want you to correct my English. You know, when speak with Rosalee, she isn''t used to correct my English, she always try to understand me if I make mistakes. So if nobody don''t correct me, I won''t improve my English. This is the reason why I hope that you correct my mistakes
I asked my mother about the key, she told me that you don''t have to send her this key because It is not important.
Yesterday, my maternal grandmother did a lot of special dish for the ancestor''s death anniversary. She also did some "spring roll" or "nem". I invited Rosalee to eat with me. During the meal, she deplored that she was very full and she couldn''t finish it. She seemed *****ffer a great misery cause she was so full. I brought some remaining spring roll to her for her tomorrow breakfast. We were very happy to eat these delicious dish.
I was very interested by the ballet because It was my first time to see it. Before, I saw some Opera Ballet in the TV but I think I must go to the Opera to feel and to understand Its arts. Also if I saw you playing piano, I would understand more I think. Rosalee told me that the price of the Opera in America is very expensive, isn''t it?

I have a close friend but she is too busy at this moment and it will be very terrible if i continue to think of what had happened!
I also have "you"-my brother, the person i call every time i get stuck...because my boyfriend is not understandable to listen to me, to share happiness and also sadness and especially to be the one that i can lean on...
But sometimes i think i can''t contact "you" anymore.One day "you" will have a girlfriend, a wife ... and how could i always bother "you" to say that i am disappointed...How stupid am i!!!
