    CHRONOLOGY-The Beatles: All Our Yesterdáy

    LONDON (Reuters) - Following are some major events in the history of the Beatles. George Harrison, the legendary pop band's lead guitarist has died at age 58 after battling cancer.

    July 6, 1957 - John Lennon, lead singer of the Quarry Men, is introduced to Paul McCartney during an appearance by the band in Liverpool. McCartney soon invited to join the group.

    February/March 1958 - George Harrison, a school friend of Paul's, meets up with the group and eventually joins the band.

    Nov 15, 1959 - John, Paul and George au***ion for a TV talent show calling themselves Johnny and the Moondogs.

    Jan 1960 - Stuart Sutcliffe joins the group.

    Aug 12, 1960 - Pete Best joins as drummer. They tour Germany for the first time, calling themselves The Beatles.

    Dec 17, 1960 - Their first British performance as The Beatles, at the Casbah Coffee Club, Liverpool.

    Jan 1, 1962 - They au***ion for Decca records but are turned down because ``groups of guitars are on the way out.'' Record shop owner Brian Epstein becomes their manager.

    April 10, 1962 - Stuart Sutcliffe dies of brain hemorrhage.

    June 6, 1962 - First recording session at EMI with George Martin as producer.

    Aug 16, 1962 - Pete Best is fired, replaced by Ringo Starr.

    Oct 1962 - ``Love Me Do,'' their first single as The Beatles, enters the British chart and reaches No. 17.

    Jan 1963 - ``Please Please Me'' reaches No. 1 in four of the five British singles charts, beginning a sequence of 12 consecutive No. 1 hits.

    Feb 11, 1963 - Recording of their first album, ``Please Please Me,'' is completed in one day.

    Nov 1963 - ``With The Beatles'' becomes first million-selling album in Britain.

    Feb 7-22, 1964 - The Beatles tour United States for the first time, break TV viewing records on the ``Ed Sullivan Show.''

    July 6, 1964 - Debut film ``A Hard Day's Night'' premiered.

    June 12, 1965 - Queen Elizabeth awards the four the MBE (Member of the British Empire). John returns his in 1969, partly in protest at British support for United States in Vietnam War.

    July 29, 1965 - The second Beatles film, ``Help!,'' premieres.

    Dec 3, 1965 - The Beatles start final British tour. The last live concert in Britain takes place on May 1, 1966. Final concert of all is in San Francisco on August 29, 1966.

    March 4, 1966 - John Lennon is quoted as claiming that the Beatles are ``more popular than Jesus now.''

    Aug 1966 - The ``Revolver'' album is released.

    March 30, 1967 - Photo session for cover of ``Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band,'' using cut-outs of famous people.

    June 1967 - ``Sgt. Pepper'' hits British No. 1. It becomes the biggest-selling British album of all time.

    Aug 27, 1967 - Brian Epstein is found dead.

    Jan 22, 1968 - Apple Corp, a record company founded by the Beatles, opens offices in London.

    Feb 1968 - The group flies to India to me***ate with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. As divisions appear, for the first time the group works separately on tracks for The White Album.

    Oct 1968 - Premiere of animated film ``Yellow Submarine.''

    May 26-June 2, 1969 - John Lennon and Yoko Ono hold ``bed-in'' protest at Amsterdam hotel and record ``Give Peace a Chance.''

    July/Aug 1969 - ``Abbey Road'' album recorded. Traffic outside studio stopped for cover photo of group on pedestrian crossing. Final mix on August 20 is last day all four are together in a recording studio.

    1970 - Documentary film ``Let It Be'' is released. Intended as account of Beatles' ``rebirth,'' it chronicles their demise.

    April 1970 - Final studio session for a Beatles record -- but with only Ringo Starr there. No formal announcement is made, but news that the Beatles are no more appears on April 10.

    Dec 8, 1980 - John Lennon shot to death in New York City by deranged fan Mark David Chapman.

    Aug 10, 1985 - Michael Jackson acquires copyright to entire Lennon/McCartney song catalog.

    Dec 1994 - ``Live at the BBC,'' collection of 56 songs recorded on radio between 1962-65, is group's first ``new'' album for almost 25 years.

    Oct 1995 - Paul, George and Ringo join forces again to back two songs recorded by Lennon before his death.

    Nov 2000 - Compilation album of Beatles' No. 1 hits in Britain and the United States is released. The fastest-selling album in Britain to date, it tops charts in over 30 countries.

    Nov 30, 2001 - Death of George Harrison after long battle against cancer is announced. He was 58.

    Here is a list of the Beatles' No. 1 singles, in chronological order as given on the album. It omitted their 1963 ``Please Please Me,'' a British but not a U.S. number one.
