Fuel-efficient cars top Julyâ?Ts auto sales
Rising fuel prices have accelerated the sales of fuel-saving passenger cars, which were up by 60 percent year on year to 2,237 being sold in July, bringing the total sales of Vietnamâ?Ts eleven car makers to 8,458, a 31 percent rise over the same period last year, an industry group reported on August 11.
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturesâ?T Association (VAMA), which represents the countryâ?Ts 17 leading auto makers, the cost of fuel was also slowing down the growth of fuel-thirsty car sales, such as sports utility vehicles (SUV), multi-purpose vehicles (MPV) and commercial vehicles, which once led the overall sales.
SUV/MPV and commercial vehicles registered only of 20 percent and 24 percent growth rate in July with 2,237 and 3,955 being sold. (VOV News â?" August 12, 2008)
First intâ?Tl electrical equipment expo to open in December
More than 200 domestic and foreign enterprises will showcase their products at an international exhibition on electrical equipment to be held for the first time in Hanoi from December 11-13.
Technological equipment for thermo and hydro power plants as well as environmental protection equipment in electricity production will be showed.
Speaking at a press conference in Hanoi on August 12, Chairman of the Vietnam Power Industry Association Hoang Thai An said the exhibition will offer a chance for domestic and foreign businesses to promote trade and cooperation in order *****ccessfully implement the countryâ?Ts electricity development strategy. 200 attend building expo
More than 200 local and foreign businesses are participating in the international construction, building materials and interior decoration exhibition (Viconstruct) which opened August 11 and runs until August 15.
The Fair and Trade Joint Stock Company (VIASI), co-organisers of the event, said in a statement, Viconstruct 2008 will feature a wide range of building technologies, equipment, and products. Ha Noi district urban planning schemes are also on display at the exhibition, said the organisers, adding there will be seminars given on new technologies, new products, and to explain new import-export policies.
