    GALEC has been active for more than 3 years and through with many ups and downs; yet we have created a friendly English speaking environment for those who want to improve their English. By organizing weekly workshops and many other outdoor activities, our club’s image has been getting more and more familiar with English learners and lovers inside and outside Hanoi. Our main activities:

    • Weekly English Workshops:
     GALEC 1: Every Sunday, 3h pm – 5h pm
     GALEC 2: Every Thursday, 6h30-8h30pm
    • Annual English Speaking Contest: WORDSTORM 2010; WORDSTORM 2011; WORDSTORM 2012
    • Online Contests: Mr & Miss GALEC; Blackboard & Chalk
    • GALEC Sportday: GALEC Sportday 2012; GALEC Sportday 2013 (going to come)
    • Outdoor workshops: Mid-Autumn Festival 2011; Vietnam’s Women’s Day 2011; Noel 2011, etc
    • Specialized workshops: GALEC Field Trip to American Center; Workshop: Chinh phục Rào cản IELTS
    • Others: Moc Chau Trip; Giong Pagoda Trip, etc

    With the purpose of getting our club closer to more and more people and helping them with their English, we do need to expand and strengthen our club’s activities. Therefore, we would like to open the door for those who are interested in becoming a part of our Family as a Key member.

    I. INFORMATION
    1. General Information

    • Position: KEY MEMBER
    • Place: GALEC English Club
    • Deadline for application: March 26th, 2013

    2. Responsibilities
    • Making detailed plans for weekly workshops, events….
    • Hosting and supporting weekly English workshops
    • Acting as a motivator for workshop discussions
    • Writing reports after each workshop
    • Taking in charge of the club’s marketing tasks such as updates on Facebook, Forums and Website and others as request

    3. Requirements
    • High proficiency in English (spoken and written) with clear voice
    • Good experience of being an MC for English clubs or strong desire to become an MC
    • Great enthusiasm, high sense of responsibility
    • Self-confident, self-motivated, creative and humorous
    • Good communication skills, Result-oriented with fast learners

    II. APPLYCATION PROCESS

    3 rounds:

    1. First Round: CV screening (03/03-26/03/2013)
    • Deadline: by 12am (mid-night) Tuesday, March 26th, 2013
    • The result of CV screening will be announced on Wednesday 27th 2013 via Email and phone

    2. Second Round: Interview (30/03/2013, expected)
    • The interview is expected to be on Saturday, March 30th, 2013 at SmartLink English Center, No 3, Lane 196 Thai Thinh
    • There are 2 parts: Individual Interview and Hosting trial-you will have around 15 minutes to be an MC for a workshop (You can prepare your OWN workshop plan or use our club’s plans to host).

    3. Third Round: on-the-job training (Later on)
    Passing the Interview, candidates will have ONE month to do the Job on training

    1. Your family had been raising a ****. He weighed 3 kilogram and was ready for your plentiful meal . But he often went to your neighbor’s yard to flush many hens. One day he disappeared mysteriously and you saw the neighbor’s dog was nibbling a chicken bone. You highly suspect your neighbor is the culprit. What’s happening next ? Create your own story
    2. A family moved to your next door. They have a beautiful daughter. You and she are studying at the same university and she is just 2 years younger than you. You have feelings for her. Make a love story out of this first beginning.

    STREET HEROES

    I. Warm-up game: Who am I?

    All members are divided into 2 groups. Each turn, one member of each group gets out of the room and the other group thinks of a famous person. Then that member comes in and started asking questions “Am I…?” or “Do I…” and get the answers which can only be “Yes” or “No” until he/she knows exactly who he/she is.

    II. Free talk
    1. In Vietnam, “Street Heroes” are known as the people who prepare themselves equipments to solve any crimes anytime they detect in the street. Have you ever heard about them? Why are they called “Street Heroes”?
    2. Name some reasons why the number of “Street Heroes” has been increasing more and more recently.
    3. Which benefits do “Street Heroes” bring to our community?
    4. Sometimes when working, they actually cause many accidents as well as exceed their right and responsibility and they are even arrested consequently. What’s your point of view?
    5. In fact, they have gained many achievements and been recognized and encouraged by the media. Is this good or not?

    III. Group work
    In your opinion, what should the government do? Encourage the “Street Heroes” to keep working or prevent them from doing their job?

    1/ Which of the types below were you at class/work (can be more than one). How did it feel ?
    -Teacher’s/Boss’s pet (flattering type)
    -Geek (Studying/working is the only thing that matters, no social contact)
    -Nerd (into games, comics, films, idols, often do wind slashing…)
    -Comedian (friendly, funny, not often get taken seriously)
    -Superstar (beautiful, haughty, make ups, self centered, often is a delinquent)
    -Autistic/Shy/Loner/Haters (opposite with the type above)
    -Monitor type (serious, conservative and can also be a communist)

    2/ Which of them is the type that you hate? How should you deal with each type? Or just ignore all of them ?

    3/ How to impress your boss/teacher? Do you think that flattering the boss/teacher will get you more benefits than just working ?

    4/ They said that you should be humble and friendly at where you are working/studying. But how far can that take you to ? Should you show your characteristic clearly or just do as the Romans do ?

    5/ (For fun) Love in the same school/work. Should or Shouldn’t ? Why ?

    III. Group Work: Role play (sort of):
    In a company, there is a high position missing and rumors have been going on that the boss is going to give it to a flatterer. Divide your groups into those characters above and give the boss reasons why that character deserves the spot.

    Give each of 2 team one paper. In one team, each person takes turn to write 1 sentence in that paper to create a funny story related to the topic. Try to make the story as much funny as possible. Time: 5 minutes.

    II. Discussion in groups: (40 minutes)
    1. What do you think might be the reasons for existing *** workers?
    2. How do you think about *** workers in terms of their job, dignity, and fate? Do they deserve to be disdained?
    3. Why are *** workers so alluring? Should they be blamed for destroying the other family’s happiness (if happened)?
    4. Prostitution nowadays increases rapidly. What are the reasons and consequences of this trend?

    III. Debate: (40 minutes)
    *** workers should be allowed to solicit legally in Vietnam.

    Rules for debate: The MC will tell you the rules. 2 people will be delegated to be Judges.
