    LIVING UNDER ONE ROOF

    I/ Game

    II/ Discussion:
1/ How many people are there in your family ? Do you get along with each other
    well ?
2/ When did you get to live in your own room ? Do you usually take care of your
room ? Do you think that it’s alright for parents to tell their children what to do
    with their own rooms ?
3/ What do you think is the biggest problem when you are living together with
other members in your family ?
4/ For students who stay in dormitories, how many roommates do you have ?
What kinds of problems do you guys often have with each other ? How to secure
your property when you are living in the dormitory ?
5/ What should you do to keep harmony when you are living under the same roof
with many people? Should we set some rules when we are living together with
roommates or family members? What rules would you make?

    III/ Sharing, Q&A.

    IV/ Debate:
The population is growing, the price is getting higher and it’s much more difficult
to find and to buy a house or an apartment now. Living together under one roof
would be a good choice now. Do you agree or not that a married couple should
live with their parents or parents-in-law? Or should they move to a private house ?

    PEER PRESSURE

~ Have you ever do something, not that you yourself like it but because ALL other people do so? Have you ever chosen a job, not because you yourself love it, but because MANY of your friends choose it?
I do. For many times, the outward thinking trend wins your own call of heart. That’s how we phrase “Peer pressure”- a good topic that I’d like to cover this time. How about you? Let me hear your voices! ~
    - Dieu Anh -

    1. BREAKING ICE: WHO’S FASTER?( 15 mins)
Play with words. Divide the whole club into 2 groups. Each group’s member is given a letter( written in a piece of paper). The MC will read aloud 10 words consecutively. The task is that the player will have to stand up, and stand together to create that Word. The group with more complete words will be the winner.

    2. FREE TALK: LET’S SEE HOW TALKATIVE YOU CAN BE?( 45 mins: 25 mins Discussion+ 20 mins Presentation)
1- Define peer pressure. How about Herd Mentality. Make an example.
2- What is something that people often get pressured into doing?
3- Is there such a thing as positive peer pressure?
4- Give an example of how peer pressure could conflict with beliefs and/or values.
5- What is the meaning of ‘free will’?
6- Is peer pressure a fact of life, or can it be eliminated?

    3. BREAK( 10 mins)
    Do the crossword.

    4. CRITICAL THINKING: HOW WELL YOU CAN TACKLE IT? ( 40 minutes)
"Never forget that only dead fish swims with the stream" ~ Malcolm Muggeridge
Discuss with the friend next to you to answer the following questions for the given case studies:
1- Which pressures are mentioned in the case? Have you ever found yourself in the similar situation?
2- What is your recommendation to tackle that pressure?

    Case study
Ritesh is in Class 11. He has joined a new school a few days ago. He is nervous and anxious to find a respectable place amongst his new peers. He can sense the 'race for social manhood' in the air.
The two bullies in his class show an interest in befriending him and he does not want to offend them. They offer him a cigarette during lunch. Ritesh is under extreme duress. He does not want to smoke, but he is afraid to say no. The cigarette chokes him. The two bullies make fun of him and he feels humiliated. He spends the next five days smoking one cigarette after another in private to get used to smoking.

    Case study
Every day, while going back home from school, Ajay's friends tease the girls going to school on the way. Their comments on the girls sometimes get rude and vulgar. Ajay does not like this. However, he does not dare stop his friends. One day, his friends confront him and ask him why he does not participate in teasing the girls. Ajay does not know how to deal with the situation. "Don't girls interest you?" one boy asks derisively. Actually, at this point in time, Ajay can very well do without girls, but he is 'ashamed' to admit the fact. "If you are a man you have got to enjoy these things," one of the boys says.
He hopes that his teasing will pass, but the boys again tease him the next day. They use abusive words like namard and chakka. Ajay feels insulted and is at a loss for words.
Things start becoming difficult for Ajay and he stops mixing with this group. However, they keep teasing him in the class, and other students soon join in. Now Ajay wishes he had just done what the boys had asked him to do.

    Case study
The first time Justine went to see Titanic, she was accompanied by her boyfriend. She noticed the dramatic effects of the sinking ship and commented on the lead character, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, as being foolish in his attempts to stay with his romantic partner. The second time Justine saw Titanic, she was with an all-female group of teenage peers. This time, she commented primarily on DiCaprio's appearance, and she found his actions not only less foolish, but perhaps even tragically romantic.

    Case study
Mary has just joined the university, stays in a hostel with other two roommates. The other two roommates are very rich and flashy. They love shopping, dating and roaming around. All three of them have a lot of fun in the hostel. Soon Mary feels, that she should also indulge in shopping and dating. But for all this, she needs money. She starts lying to her parents to get extra pocket money and compromises with her studies. When her parents refuse to give extra money, she starts borrowing money from others and very soon gets trapped in the vicious cycles of debt. In this case, the Mary was not forced but after looking at other friends, she was tempted to have a lifestyle like them.

What will you do to make another appointment with her ?
