I think what they are looking for is a -personal statement- which means that regardless of the general rules and regulations that would normally be applied to the essay, there should be -personal elements- present.
They are looking for something that would represent you. That would tell them who you are, what your personality is really like, so such opportunity would best be used if you weave in your personal traits.
A robust personality, that is not ashamed to express EXACTLY what you want (I am keen to be considered for this position is because..blah blah blah), WHY you deserve it (I hope to be considered for this position due to the blah blah blah), WHAT you are WILLING to do (I am committed to provide blah blah blah services ect..). I think that is what would make your essay not standout, unique, but would ensure to impress them more.
Then again. I have no clue what sort of thing you are looking for, due to personal experience though..no matter how well structured your essay is, you should never forget personal aspects of the essay.
Introduction is necessary "Dear sir/madam, my name is blah blah blah..I am writing regarding the position of blah blah blah...because I am a keen blah blah blah person, and this has genuinely sparked an interest in me".
History to your qualification, such as your university degree, or the requirements/prerequisites that you have complied of the year. All the bonus knowledge or awards you have..blah blah blah..list them all out. However, remember to list them orderly, and in a non-egotistical manner. Oh, and experience is always a bonus.
Why you are applying for this position. Make it VERY genuine and honest. People aren''t stupid, they can tell which is superficial. Include some history/relevant facts you know about the organisation. That ALWAYS impresses them.
Why you think you deserve this position. Make SURE to include that you are passionate about this, not just due to economical/other reasons, but it is important that you have your heart in this. Tell them that you are confident in your experience, qualification and capability to ensure a well-mainained position if assigned.
What you are willing to give. 110%, heart, soul, time, effert, ect..ect. This is where you impress them, so don''t waste your opportunity.
