Nếu nói về tội ác của Liên Xô thì phải kể đến tội diệt chủng ở Ukraina.
Vụ này báo trí phương tây kêu nhiều nhất. Nó được xếp hàng thức 3 sau Vụ Đức Quốc Xã giết dân Do Thái và Vụ Khơ me đỏ.
Vụ diệt chủng cũng đưa Stalin lên hàng thứ 3 những kẻ giết nhiều người nhất sau Hitler và Mao Trạch Đông.

The Holodomor (Ukrainian: "олодомо?; translation: murder by hunger) was a famine in the Ukrainian SSR from 1932?"1933, during which millions of people starved to death as a result of the economic and trade policies instituted by Joseph Stalin. As of March 2008, Ukraine and nineteen other governments[21] have recognized the actions of the Soviet government as an act of genocide. The joint statement at the United Nations in 2003 has defined the famine as the result of cruel actions and policies of the totalitarian regime that caused the deaths of millions of Ukrainians, Russians, Kazakhs and other nationalities in the USSR[22]. On 23 October 2008 the European Parliament adopted a resolution[23] that recognized the Holodomor as a crime against humanity.[24]
On January 12, 2010, the court of appeals in Kiev opened hearings into the "fact of genocide-famine Holodomor in Ukraine in 1932-33", in May 2009 the Security Service of Ukraine had started a criminal case "in relation to the genocide in Ukraine in 1932-33".[25] In a ruling on January 13, 2010 the court found Joseph Stalin and other Bolshevik leaders guilty of genocide against the Ukrainians; however, the court dropped criminal proceedings against the leaders, Joseph Stalin, Vyacheslav Molotov, Lazar Kaganovich, Stanislav Kosior, Pavel Postyshev and others, due to their deaths.[26] This decision became effective on January 21, 2010, after not having been contested in the Supreme Court of Ukraine for seven days.[27]

A Russian presidential commission confirmed yesterday that 200,000 clergy were systematically murdered under Soviet rule in a horrific cycle of crucifixions, scalpings and other ?obestial tortures.?
Commission chairman Alexander Yakovlev, presenting the report at a news conference, seemed unconcerned the disclosure might deter electors from voting communist or nationalist in parliamentary elections on December 17, and he added: ?oIf it has an influence, I will be very satisfied.? The report by the Commission for the Rehabilitation of the Victims of Political Repression also found another 500,000 religious figures had suffered persecution in the decades after Lenin?Ts Bolsheviks seized power.
?oDocuments relate how clergymen, monks, nuns were crucified on royal gates and shot in the basements of the Cheka [secret police], scalped, strangled, drowned and submitted to other bestial tortures,? he said.
Yakovlev said some of the material, from archives of the former ruling politburo and security services, had not been previously published and that uncovering it had been traumatic.
?oI was especially shocked by accounts of priests turned into columns of ice in winter. But that?Ts not all, there were crucifixions... it was total cruelty.? Yakovlev said hundreds of people were shot for not giving up church property, and only a fraction of the proceeds were spent on the poor, as had been promised.
?oThe rest went on the world revolution and to open foreign bank accounts for our leaders,? Yakovlev said.
Yakovlev, known as the ?oFather of Glasnost? for his role in promoting liberal reforms in the late ?~80S, admitted the timing of the report was not entirely coincidental.
The 71-year-old former politburo member, who leads a Social Democratic party, said he knew he would be accused of electioneering but that reforms were doomed unless Russia rid itself of all traces of Bolshevism.
Yakovlev said ?oBolsheviks? ?" including communists, ultra-nationalist Vladimir Zhirinovsky?Ts party and the Agrarian Party ?" had not renounced the politics of force and their current fondness for the church was ?odeeply immoral.?
?oBuilding on the maxim ?~religion is the opium of the people?T ... Lenin gave the order to carry out ?~a campaign of merciless terror,?T? he said.
Of 48,000 churches in Russia before 1917, only 7000 remained by 1969, and Islamic and Jewish religious buildings had suffered in similar proportion.
?oIt?Ts a tragic story which has not provoked repentance and which has not been properly heard,? said Yakovlev.
?oI expect that there will be a [presidential] decree, not only to rehabilitate all those who suffered but to recognise the actions as criminal acts by the regime,? he said, adding that President Boris Yeltsin was in favour.
But Yakovlev said individuals should not be persecuted.

For China under Mao Tse-tung, the communist government eliminated, as an average figure between estimates, 45,000,000 Chinese. The number killed for just these two nations is about 84,500,000 human beings, or a lethality of 252 percent more than both World Wars together. Yet, have the world community and intellectuals generally shown anything like the same horror, the same outrage, the same out pouring of anti-killing literature, over these Soviet and Chinese megakillings as has been directed at the much less deadly World Wars?

Chiến tranh là chém giết. Nhân đạo với kẻ thù là tàn nhẫn với bản thân. Anh giết tôi và tôi giết anh. Kẻ chiến thắng làm vua và kẻ thua là tù phạm. Đó là quy luật muôn đời chả có gì bàn. Phát xít giết nhân loại và nhân loại giết phát xít. Bạch quân giết hồng quân và hồng quân giết bạch quân. Ranh giới thiện-ác trong chiến tranh vô cùng mong manh. Vấn đề là anh đánh vì cái gì? Anh giết vì cái gì? Thực ra bàn thiện -ác thì nên bàn ở chùa, nhà thờ......còn forum chiến tranh thì thật là khó lắm thay. Câu nói hay nhất về giết chóc theo tôi là " Tôi không giết anh ta. Nhưng tôi giết cái mà anh ta đại diện" Tôi chả thù ghét gì Nga vàng. Nhưng tôi chống lại việc bóp méo sự thật.
