    The 4th test :
This is a nominee for Grammy 95, and I hope you guys enjoy translating it. I'm not sure if the winner can have a present from offline English Club, as the contest isn't given by dirosemimi or any other leader of the club. However, I reckon it might be good to wake the translation contest up and who has the best version will get 5* from me .
It's not very hard to understand the meaning of this song, but not very easy to express it in Vietnamese fluently either. It'd even nicer if you guys can translate it in a way so that we can sing too, not only to understand the content.
    HE THINKS HE'LL KEEP HER
    Mary Chapin Carpenter
She makes his coffee, she makes his bed
She does the laundry, she keeps him fed
When she was twenty-one she wore her mother's lace
She said forever with a smile upon her face
She does the carpool, she PTA's
Doctors and dentists, she drives all day
When she was twenty-nine she delivered number three
And every christmas card showed a perfect family
Everything runs right on time, years of practice and design
Spit and polish till it shines, he thinks he'll keep her
Everything is so benign, safest place you'll ever find
God forbid you'd change your mind, he thinks he'll keep her
She packs his suitcase, she sits and waits
With no expression upon her face
When she was thirty-six she met him at the door
She said, I'm sorry, I don't love you anymore
    [CHORUS]
For fifteen years she had a job and not one raise in pay
Now she's in the typing pool at minimum wage
Everything runs right on time, years of practice and design
Spit and polish till it shines, he thinks he'll keep her
Everything is so benign, safest place you'll ever find
At least until you change your mind, he thinks he'll keep her ....

Not so tough to understand it.Let's me try to explain my thinking about some verses of the song.
The underlying meaning of this song probably is a warning about frivoulous relationship bt boys and girls and all the prejudice against women. A song to call for women liberation i guess

HE THINKS HE'LL KEEP HER (But HE CAN"T)
    Mary Chapin Carpenter
She makes his coffee, she makes his bed
She does the laundry, she keeps him fed
When she was twenty-one she wore her mother's lace--> She seemed to be mature early
She said forever with a smile upon her face
She does the carpool, she PTA's---> Parent Teacher Association---> this girl is so hectic with her life
Doctors and dentists, she drives all day---> Doctors for her prenancy? Dentists for her children?
When she was twenty-nine she delivered number three---> 3 children when she was 29.
And every christmas card showed a perfect family----> Ironic huh, a family with a bunch of kids.
Everything runs right on time, years of practice and design
---> The SOB knows how to drag this miserable girl along
Spit and polish till it shines, he thinks he'll keep her
-->Nice expression, just imagine about shoe polising. This verse implies that their relationship is on and off all the time.
Everything is so benign, safest place you'll ever find
--->This poor girl is not determined about ending the relationship yet. After all women usually consider their partners as their greatest support.
God forbid you'd change your mind, he thinks he'll keep her
--->See, she can't get off that mindset. "God" here stands for the old-fashioned ideologies that have been established in the society for a long time.
She packs his suitcase, she sits and waits
With no expression upon her face
When she was thirty-six she met him at the door
She said, I'm sorry, I don't love you anymore
---->Brave move, yeah dumb him my girl
    [CHORUS]
For fifteen years she had a job and not one raise in pay
Now she's in the typing pool at minimum wage
----------> Look how she suffered in her life and the society seemed not treat her fairly.
Everything runs right on time, years of practice and design
Spit and polish till it shines, he thinks he'll keep her
Everything is so benign, safest place you'll ever find
At least until you change your mind, he thinks he'll keep her ....

It's not wealth one asks for, but just enough to preserve one's dignity, to work unhampered,to be generous, to be independent
