Overview
We are a research group at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and at the University of Heidelberg in Germany that uses organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, cell biology and microbiology approaches to develop innovative research tools and to answer important biological questions.
The goal of our research is to gain better understanding of biological interfaces and to advance our ability to effectively control and direct behavior of cells and bacteria. We are working on the development of biologically active functional polymer surfaces and materials, "smart" switchable polymer surfaces, and gradient surfaces that we use for fundamental investigation of biological interfaces, for studying cell- and bacteria-surface interactions and for studying biofouling. The motivation behind our research is: to learn how cells and bacteria interact with surfaces; to develop biocompatible, biomimetic and "smart" materials that can improve performance of existing biomedical or cell culture devices; and to use this knowledge and materials to achieve control over behavior of cells and bacteria on surfaces. Our research is very interdisciplinary and we closely collaborate with biologists and physicists.

Overview
The WSAF scholarships and awards are made available under a series of bilateral educational agreements with governments of the recipient countries and institutions of higher learning around the world. The government of the recipient countries and various multinational companies in these countries has been the principal benefactor in a bid to foster development in these countries.
How many people will be awarded scholarships by WSAF?
There is no limit to the number of people that will be awarded the WSAF scholarship so long as candidates fulfill the requirements.
What is the value of the scholarship awarded?
- The value will depend on the location of the institution of higher learning the applicant selected. - Generally the scholarship amount includes the following:-

What are the odds of me receiving the WSAF Scholarship?
The success rate of our applicant pool has been anywhere from just below 40% up to 50% in the past few years. We cannot make any predictions as to how many applicants we will have in a given year.

The OFID scholarship will be awarded *****pport one student or candidate for Master?Ts degree studies. The applicant may be from any developing country, and he/she must first obtain admission to pursue a Master?Ts degree studies in a relevant field of development, in any recognized university/college in the world. Through its scholarship scheme, OFID aims to help highly motivated, highly-driven individuals overcome one of the biggest challenges to their careers ?" the cost of graduate studies. The winner of the OFID Scholarship Award will receive a scholarship of up to US$100,000. The funds will be spread over a maximum of two years, toward the completion of a Master?Ts degree, or its equivalent, at an accre***ed educational institution, starting in the autumn of the academic year 2010/2011.
Application Guidelines

I. Eligibility
Must be between the ages of 23-32 at the time of submitting his/her application.

II. Disbursement of the Scholarship Fund
The terms and con***ions of payment will be determined in coordination with the student upon his/her selection in accordance with the following guidelines:
The tuition fees, including any supplementary examination fees, as may be required by the academic institution, will be paid by OFID directly to the academic institution. Health insurance will be paid in accordance with the institution?Ts own standard medical scheme.
A monthly allowance to cover living expenses, books and accommodation, will be transferred to the student?Ts own personal bank account on a quarterly basis.
Prior to the start of his/her first year studies, the student will be paid a relocation grant, equal to two-month allowance. OFID will also pay for travel costs from the nearest airport to the student?Ts place of residence, to the nearest airport to the chosen place of study. Upon completion of the studies, the student will be paid the cost of one-way air ticket to his/her home country.

Overview
RES the School for Renewable Energy Science in Iceland is now accepting applications for its one year (90 ECTS cre***s) international M.Sc. Degree Program in Renewable Energy Science, for the academic year 2011-2012.
The RES Program will in February 2011 complete its third year of operation when 49 masters degree students from twelve different countries will graduate. The students this year are specializing in four different fields, namely Geothermal Energy, Hydropower, Fuel Cell Systems & Hydrogen, and Energy Systems & Policies. RES also offers a specialization in Biofuels & Bioenergy. In the near future the school will as well offer specializations in Wind & Wave Power and in Solar Energy in cooperation with foreign partner universities.
RES is a private institution of higher learning, a graduate school, affiliated with the University of Iceland in Reykjavik and the University of Akureyri in North-Iceland. Two scholarships will be awarded per class and candidates for this scholarship will need to demonstrate: (a) outstanding academic achievement and promise (b) aptitude for business and financial management (c) leadership potential and (d) a commitment to contributing to their country or region at some point in the future.
Eligibility:
Candidates must be a national of an emerging economy and have spent a substantial part of their lives in the developing world, in education and/or professional experience. Experience in industry will be considered a plus. Preference will be given to candidates who require proven financial assistance.
Essay topic :
1).Briefly discuss the requirements for successful business leadership in your country today. Describe how you envisage contributing to the future development of your country after graduation and why you should be considered for this award. (200 words)
2).Briefly discuss measures required for sustainable agriculture in your country/region in the context of urban and rural development. Focus on what you consider to be the most important element (450 words)
3).Provide a concise but accurate description of your financial circumstances as well as a cash flow forecast for the year at INSEAD (details of income set against expen***ures).

In his or her prior academic education abroad, the applicant must have achieved excellent study results which are relevant for the programme for which the student wishes to enroll. As an indication, the student will be among the top 10% for the relevant programme followed abroad

Students who are granted a Leiden Excellence Scholarship must comply with and confirm in writing their agreement with the terms and con***ions (pdf) attached to the scholarship prior to the granting of the scholarship.
Scholarship Amount:
The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship programme has 5 awards:
Platinum: Covers the tuition fee minus the home fee* and an allowance of ,10,000 for living costs
Gold: Covers the tuition fee minus the home fee*
Silver: Covers 75% of the tuition fee
Bronze: Covers 50% of the tuition fee
Ivory: Covers 25 % of the tuition fee
* The tuition fee will be reduced to the amount of the home fee. Students who have been awarded a Platinum or Gold award still have to pay the home fee themselves.

Letter of motivation
To apply for the scholarship, you should write a letter of motivation (in Word) of a maximum of 500 words, in which you indicate why you believe you should be considered for this scholarship. The Word document should then be attached on the scholarship page in your online application for the master?Ts programmes for which you are applying.
It is possible *****bmit applications for more scholarship programmes simultaneously. However, it is not possible to obtain more than 1 scholarship from Leiden University for the same study programme.

Students should be aware that the LExS is not a full scholarship. It is necessary to find ad***ional funding to be able to finance their study and stay completely.
One of the requirements for being granted a residence permit in the Netherlands is that students must submit proof that they have sufficient financial means to finance their study period in the Netherlands. Leiden University advises a budget, not including the tuition fee, of approx. ,10,000 to ,14,000 per year to cover the costs for rent, insurance, living expenses, course books and local transportation. How much money students actually spend will of course depend on their life style and spending habits.
