    Vrije Universiteit Brussel Master Scholarships
The Vrije Universiteit Brussel awards yearly a number of scholarships for advanced studies at Master or Advanced Master level. These programmes are characterized by the integration of education and research and a Master''s thesis. They cover at least one year of study and depending on the field of study some programmes may take 2 years.
Yearly one or more specific programmes will be considered for Scholarships of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. The Bureau for Development Cooperation selects these programmes every year following an internal "Call for Interest" to all programme directors of a Master or Advanced Master programme. This selection is submitted for endorsement to the Research Council.
    Scholarships 2010 - 2011
    Number of scholarships: 5
Programme eligible for scholarships: Master of Applied Sciences and Engineering: Master of Computer Science
    Duration: 2 years, start 27 September 2010
    Specific admission requirements:
    http://www.vub.ac.be/english/infoabout/education/bama/of-ma-computerscience.html
Candidates must have a fluency in English, both spoken and written (validated by a TOEFL test score of at least 213 (computer), 550 (paper), 80 (TOEFL-IBT) or an IELTS-test score of 6,5 or an equivalent test, or proof of having studied in English).
Expenses covered by the Vrije Universiteit Brussel
    1. Scholars participating in a Master Programme will receive a monthly allowance of ,964*. This allowance is intended to cover room and board, individual transport and scholar''s personal expenses.
    2. A monthly allowance of ,60* will be paid for the spouse and per child whether or not they accompany the scholar to Belgium (notes: (1) payment only upon receipt of a notarised copy of marriage and/or birth certificate(s); (2) possible travel expenses incurred by the scholar?Ts family will not be covered by the Vrije Universiteit Brussel).
    3. Per academic year the scholar will be paid a lump sum fee of ,275 for teaching materials (including the printing of the dissertation or reports).
    4. The scholar will be paid once a lump sum fee of ,275 covering shipping costs of teaching material received during the programme (paid at the end of the programme).
    5. Upon arrival, the scholar will receive a one-time installation fee of ,500.
    6. International travel: the scholarship includes one one-way economy class airline ticket to travel to Belgium at the beginning of the programme and a one-way ticket to the scholar''s home country at the end of the programme. A two-year programme also includes a round-trip ticket for summer travel to the scholar?Ts home country. The reservations of the tickets are made by the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
    7. Annual tuition fee will be reimbursed after payment by the scholar.
    8. Insurance: the Vrije Universiteit Brussel will provide medical, third-party liability, accident and repatriation insurance for the scholar. Insurances are paid directly by the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
*The amounts indicated in this publication may be adjusted in line with the Belgian indexation figures.
    Duration of the scholarship
Depending on the programme, scholarships have a maximum duration of 12 months for one-year programmes or 24 months for two-year programmes. Scholarships start earliest on 16 September of the reference year (X) and end latest 20 September (X+1) for one-year programmes and 20 September (X+2) for two year programmes. Scholars who fail their exams will not be entitled to extend the duration of their scholarship. If scholars participating in a two-year programme obtain less then 60 ECTS (cre***s) at the end of the first year, they will have their scholarship aborted, unless university authorities decide otherwise.
    Remark
As stated above, the scholar will receive a monthly allowance for his/her spouse and per child even if they stay in their home country. We recommend that scholar?Ts families stay in their home country, since experience has shown that they often find it hard to live in Belgium, away from their other relatives and with no specific activities in which to get involved. Moreover, scholars participating in a two-year course who pass their first year exams will receive an airline ticket allowing them to take home leave for holidays and if applicable, to undertake at the same time fieldwork or data collection for their second year dissertation.
If the scholar wishes to bring his/her spouse and/or children along, we strongly recommend that he/she first comes alone and brings his/her family to Belgium after he/she has found suitable accommodation, since this can sometimes prove difficult. More importantly, it will be almost impossible for his/her family to obtain a visa for Belgium if the scholar cannot prove that suitable accommodation for the family is available in Belgium prior to departure from the home country.

The fruit processing industry is experiencing a surge in its growth with Quebec ranked tenth in North America. The growth has generated huge quantities of ?ofruit pomace? as solid waste (25?"30% of the total processed fruits) obtained after the extraction of fruit juice. The objective is to carry out value-ad***ion of pomace to produce ligninolytic enzymes; extract polyphenols; and use the fermented mass as animal feed by using a white rot fungus, Phanerochaete chrysosporium.
The fruit pomace residues are generally rich in carbohydrates, especially cell wall polysaccharides and other functionally important bioactive molecules, such as proteins, minerals and natural antioxidants. Owing to the high carbohydrate content, fruit pomace can be used as a substrate for the microbial production of enzymes and extraction of other high-value added products, such as anti-oxidants. Further, the high protein enriched residue can serve as animal feed.
    Research Area:
Fermentation to produce ligninolytic enzymes and simultaneously analyze polyphenolic compounds and carry out experiments with swine feed.
    Requirements:
B.Sc./B.Tech. in microbiology, biochemistry, biological engineering, biochemical engineering, chemical engineering or related discipline. Practical experience in the field of solid state fermentation or liquid fermentation and knowledge of high performance liquid chromatography/mass spectrophotometry is an added asset. Computer knowledge preferably include programming skills is an advantage. Candidates should be proficient in English and French.
Application should include a CV, list of publications, names and contacts of 2-3 references, list of research interests. For applications and further information please contact:

    Application and selection procedure

Applicants applying for both academic admission and a VLIR-UOS scholarship need to consider both the admission requirements and the scholarship criteria.

Applicants applying for academic admission but not for a scholarship simply need to fulfill only the admission requirements of the host university running the programme.
The host university is in charge of the academic admission of applications. Study results will be taken into consideration during the selection, but the most important academic selection criteria are relevant professional experience and prospects for applying the acquired insights after return to the developing country. The academic admission requirements are specific to every programme.

    Posted in scholarization.blogspot.com

A joint selection committee of VLIR-UOS and the host university is responsible for selecting scholarships. The host university – not the applicant – forwards the scholarship applications to the VLIR-UOS secretariat if the academic admission requirements are met. The VLIR-UOS scholarship criteria relate to the qualifications required of all scholarship applicants and selection criteria evaluated by the selection committee.

    Target Country

Only residents and nationals of the following countries are eligible for a VLIR-UOS scholarship:

    Africa

Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe

    Asia

Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Palestinian Administered Areas, Philippines, Vietnam

    Latin America

Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Nicaragua, Peru, Surinam

This is how you apply for the academic year 2011-2012

You can apply for a VLIR-UOS scholarship from the 1st of October 2010.
You must fill in the pre-screening form at the bottom of the page of the programme you want to follow. You may only choose one programme. If you apply to more than one programme your details will be entered more than once in our central database and all your applications will be inadmissible.
So you must follow the correct and complete procedure below.
    1. Apply on the VLIR-UOS website via the pre-screening form: fill in name, birth date, country, etc…;
    2. Receive a VLIR-UOS application/file number by return e-mail from VLIR-UOS;
    3. Apply on the website from the host university through the link mentioned in the return e-mail from VLIR-UOS;

How can I apply to the IRDA program?

Applicants can visit http://irda.kist.re.kr and see a notice in the pop- up window. Otherwise, just click the short-cut http://irda.kist.re.kr/admissions/default.asp.

How can applicants get information about majors which are available in IRDA?

KIST doesn’t have specific majors like other academic universities. KIST has 6 research divisions and students will be attached to one of these divisions. Applicants can get information about our faculty and other academic information through this website and get further information concerning research fields at the KIST website (www.kist.re.kr).

I haven’t taken the TOEFL test. Can I apply?

Because all academic instruction in the IRDA program is conducted in English, English is an important criterion for admission and satisfactory performance of research. Moreover, a TOEFL score is required when applying for government scholarships. In consideration of applicants who may have difficulty in sitting for the exam, we also accept IELTS or TOEIC scores (TOEIC 730, IELTS 6.0 or TEPS 680 are also acceptable) The only exemption from the English testing requirement is for applicants who have finished an academic course and have lived more than 2 years in a native English-speaking country (e.g., the U.S.A, England, Australia, etc.).

Can applicants apply using an Institutional TOEFL score?

The international TOEFL administered by ETS is the only type accepted. A score from an Institutional TOEFL exam from a university or other institution will not be accepted.

I have not yet received my Degree. Can I still apply before graduating?

If you finish your course before our semester starts (usually March 1, September 1), you can apply by attaching an official certificate certifying your expected graduation.

    When is vacation time?

The Fall semester usually starts in September and the Spring semester in March. Both semesters continue for 16 weeks. After a semester is completed, there are generally 2 months before classes begin again (4 months a year) and vacation can be taken at that time. However, since most of your time will be spent doing research work, which continues year round, most students are not able to take such an extended break. To arrange vacation time, it is recommended that students discuss the matter with their advisors. In usual case, students have 20 days vacation a year under advisors¡¯ permission.

Do I have to contact my advisor before applying?

After an applicant is accepted, the IRDA office will assign an advisor based on the applicant’s prior training and expressed interests. Applicants may get the information about the researchers through the IRDA website and contact them, but it is not mandatory.

    Overview

The KAAD, by its German name in full known as Katholischer Akademischer Auslander-Dienst (the Catholic Academic Support Service for Foreign Students, Germany) has, since long, provided scholarships for young professionals in need of such support from countries around the world.

Based on the agreement between the KAAD and Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), the two organizations jointly provide scholarship support for qualified applicants from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Timor Leste and Vietnam, to pursue master’s or doctoral degree program studies at the AIT. Interested persons may apply to any Fields of Study offered by the AIT. In exceptional cases, applicants from Thailand may be considered.

KAAD and AIT will co-sponsor the scholarship for successful applicants. The costs covered by the KAAD-AIT scholarship include those for tuition and fees, a monthly bursary and rental of accommodation on campus at AIT standard rates. In accordance with the regular duration of the postgraduate study programs, a master’s degree program scholarship is granted for a period of four (4) semesters (equal to 22 months), and a doctoral degree program scholarship is granted for a period of six (6) semesters (equal to 3 years).
