54th e***ion of Coppa Italia. Eight preliminary groups, each one with four teams, where will take part 32 clubs (1 from Serie C2, 9 from Serie C1, all the 20 ones of Serie B and Venezia and Chievo from Serie A). One leg matches, at the end of the three games of each group the winner will qualify to first round. At the first round will take part other eight clubs from Serie A (Piacenza, Fiorentina, Udinese, Lecce, Verona, Perugia, Bologna, Torino). Two legs matches, the winner will qualify for the second where will enter the competition the first eight teams of Serie A 2000-2001: AS Roma, Juventus, Lazio, Parma, Inter, Milan, Brescia and Atalanta. Two legs games, then quarters finals and so on till the final. The winner qualifies to the Uefa Cup 2002-2003 (in case the winner is already qualified for the Champions League being placed in one of the first four position at the end of the Serie A league, it will be the runner-up club to get the Uefa Cup spot).
