I am having difficulties on this work. I don''t know where I should begin or what I should teach him. Now, if anyone who has experience, plz show me! Thanx u very very much!

OK. You''re almost in the same situation as me. I''m also teaching VNese but not to an American, but to a Swiss who speaks French.
I suggest you begin with simple sentences like this:
Chào ông, chào bà, chào cô, chào anh, chào chị (and you explain him the different pronouns we use according to the agea and *** of the person we are speaking to).
Anh/cô/chị/ông/bà khoẻ không ? (A question in VNese usually is formed with không at the end. Khoẻ is an adjective and in VNese, we don''t usually use to be for adjectives).
Tôi không khoẻ. (The word không, when placed before the verb, forms negative sentences).
Anh không khoẻ à ? (À can also replace không, when the speaker is surprised while saying it.)
Anh tìm ai ? Anh cần gì ? (Explain what ai and gì mean)
Mời ông vào ...etc

i am curious about why do you both think that you are capable of teaching foreigner vietnamese ?
just because vietnamese is your native language doesnt mean that you can teach foreigner vietnamese isnt it ?

I don''t say that I am good at my native language - Vietnamese. But in this case, I do this work just for volunteering. Hihi, I want to introduce my language, my country, my culture to the international friends. And I have a heart. I think I can do. Maybe, you think they aren''t enough. But belief I have enough. Hihi, I want to do.

Well, why didn''t you tell me and the others how to teach a person who isn''t a Vietnamese native? Hihi, I think you are good at English with the IELTS score is 8 (I couldn''t believe it and I am jealous of you ). But it''s not the main word. To teach someone may need other important things or experience. Hehehe, show me???
I must teach him through the internet (not directly). It makes my teaching get more difficulties. But fortunately, he will visit Hanoi in February next year. I hope from now to then, I will teach him enough for him to understand all events/dialogues and can communicate with the other people in real life.
Why is Vietnamese so difficult? These word I don''t know how to explain him:
- ạ
- personal pronouns (I was so stupid that I taught him this article in the 1st lesson --- Yeah, the 1st hehe )
This lesson I devided into :
+ A person (who you talk to) is older than your grandpa/ma: ông/bà
+ A person (who you talk to) is older than you pa/ma: (Southern way) ba/má (Northern way) bố/mẹ
+ A man is older than you: anh
+ A woman is older than you: chị
....etc
(This seems to be the hardest lesson .)

- articles: cái - chiếc - con - cặp - đôi -
- linking words
In general, all concerned to the everyday life.
And the writing, in Vietnamese, there are always some signs accompany to the words. Do I need to teach him "dấu huyền, hỏi, ngã, nặng?" or just need to teach him how to write?
Hihi, today I have just taught him how to pronounce:
- Chào/Xin chào (Hi/Hello)
- Tạm biệt (Bye)
- Hẹn gặp lại (See u again)
- Rất vui được làm quen với bạn (Nice/Glad to meet u)
- Thế nào? Khoẻ không? (How are you)

I will help you explain them ...
- ạ : word added to short answers or short sentences in order to make them sound polite. Ex: vâng ạ, có ạ, có chứ ạ, làm rồi ạ, chào ông ạ ....
- personal pronouns (I was so stupid that I taught him this article in the 1st lesson --- Yeah, the 1st hehe ) Start with these one: tôi for the 1st person singular, ông/bà/cô/anh/chị for the second person singular, teach him how to form the third person by adding ấy to the second person: ông ấy, cô ấy, anh ấy, chị ấy ... You should stop there for a moment.

You''d better teach him the names of the accent and how to recognize them from the pronunciation (with is hard ......).
If possible, you can buy a Vietnamese learning book from the ASSIMIL collection - that I personally recommend.

Sorry I don''t know exactly how you can get it in VN. I think the book should be rather common there ... Even if you cannot find one at the bookshop, I think you can nevertheless order it. That''s what I did.
Oh, forgot to tell you one thing ... I''m using the French version and I don''t even know if there''s one in English. Sorry !!! Anyway, for a Vietnamese-learning book, it''s extra !!!
