I've learnt how to organise a seminar in university... and here are some topics I had to debate:-

    1. What is the worst:-
    a. Losing your religion
    b. Losing all your money
    c. Losing your health
    d. Losing your reputation

    2. What is the most important:-
    a. Sight
    b. Smelling
    c. Touch
    d. Hearing

    3. What is the happiest:-
    a. Going home after a long time absence
    b. Getting all A grades in all your exams
    c. Being loved by someone you love
    d. No worry about money

No two members in my class have the same answers for the above three questions. So why don't you pick up one of them (or all if you want ;) ), answer and argue your opinion ?

Look forward to hearing from you.

    Cheers,

    For question number 2:
    What is the most important:
    a. Sight
    b. Smelling
    c. Touch
    d. Hearing ?
I choose "sight". Among the 4 senses of human listed above, I think sight is the most precious. The world around us is full of colours. There are so many things to see and to admire. People may lose their sense of smelling during the attack of a flu for instance, they may be deaf or they may have no hands at all. In those situations, they can still enjoy their lives. Beethoven still composed great music although he was deaf. Sometimes it is good to lose our sense of smelling, especially when we live near a dirty river or near the rubbish. It is a pity we cannot enjoy the sweet fragrance of thousands of flowers, instead we can still admire their beauty and their colours.
Just imagine how awful it will be to spend your whole life in the dark, without seeing what is actually happening. You cannot see the faces of the ones you love. You cannot use the alphabet like normal people. Instead you have to use something too complicated called Braille. You can never know how your children look, how much they have grown. You cannot admire yourself in a new dress but you have to use your imagination. Since I was small, I've always been afraid of being blind, and I've always felt sorry for blind people.
If one day, I made a terrible mistake and God decided to take away 3 of my 4 senses listed above, I would beg him not to take away my sight, so that I would still see the world around me, and see the faces of the one I love.
Money is not the most important thing on earth.
    Love is.
    Fortunately,I LOVE MONEY!

For the question No1: Wots the worst? I choose a.Losing religion.
Cos we r given many chances to recall our health, money or reputation; while not with our religion. When a man loses his religion, the rest of his life will go on merely like the life of an animal, not a man. And lean on our religion, we can get our health, our money and our reputation back, but I dont think we can use money to recall our religion, hard to do!

Such an interesting topic to practise English!!!
To Lily of the Valley: I would choose "Touch" if I had to choose one of these senses. You said that one cannot enjoy the world without seeing it? I don't agree. How can one do if they can only see but do nothing to what he can see? How can you use another "alphabet like nomal people" without touching it? Can you control it by your eyes? I think seeing but not being able to do anything with it is really misarable. I'd rather not see anything.
Conversly, a blind person still can feel what's happening around, just by his hands and fingers. One can feel people he loves with his hands, even feel beautiful landscapes, the moon, flowers, etc. by the things he can touch. I remember a story of a small girl, who has a blind mother. When her mother asked her what the moon looks like, the little girl put her mother's hands on her face and said: "This is the moon, I brought it for you".
Moreover, by doing something like making chopstick, blind people can still take part in the stream of life, rather than sit and observing others. Is life meaningful without devoting for it? My answer is NO!
This is simply a debate, just to raise my idea and practise English. Looking forward to your ideas!

    Hi friends,
It's nice to hear from u your opinions. Well, those 3 questions really challenged me when I first had to choose the best answers among their equivalent solutions. I'll write to u here what I chose and the arguements from my friends...
Err.. for the first question, I thought losing health is the worst since one could do nothing without health. One of my friends (a Muslim) didnot agree with me, he said religion is the most important thing in the world 'cos religion teachs humans what is right and what is wrong. Without it people just can live a life like animals. Then I said suppose one has a serious disease that makes him/her lie in bed for his/her whole life, how could he/she wake up, knee down and pray or go out and join in a campaign for his religion ? He argued that one doesnot have to pray for his religion, God is in his heart, his mind and his spirit ... Moreover, he is eager to die if once he knows that after his death, he could live a better life with God !!! After along time debating, I couldnt change his mind 'cos he has a strong belief in his dogma....
I agree with lilly_of_the_valley that sight is the most essential sense of a person. The feeling when u could see some beautiful things (a famous picture of Van Gogh, your darling's face, the Tower Bridge in London, etc...) is really really weird and happy. Futhermore, it's truly hard to live one's life in dark.... That was my choice however it didnt match my friend's idea once again... He disputed that it's very dangerous when u couldnt feel anything that u touch in. When u r cooking, u could cut yourself and 'cos u couldnt feel that, u may die .... (For me I think it will be better when someone dies without feeling any pain )
Everyone has thier own ideas and we cant say which one is right, which one is wrong. Howerver, let's your voice count !

the 1st topic is really tough but interesting indeed, now i'm going to bed but when i take a look at it, it raise the curiosity inside me .Hence, i choose to stay still for a while.
    1. What is the worst:-
    a. Losing your religion
    b. Losing all your money
    c. Losing your health
    d. Losing your reputation
i'm not gonna make a "full length " topic, just to play the discussing game with you , the interesing and intelligent ec members.
Reputation? if you've got much money , it's not so hard to gain reputaion , if you say yes , i can't agree more, but if your answer is the other side of yes, you can't run the race of life !( DON'T have time to talk right now , but will discuss it with someone who fond of it later!)
As a saying goes , "it's hard for an empty bag to stand up" , the sentence itself already says, it's hard to live without money , but "hard" doesn't mean the end of the world ! religion? i beleive in Nirvana ( i think : one should have his belief) but my religon level is not as high as the muslim people ( hehe sorry muslim guys, i don't mean to insult you but i am not as you are .$%^ hic this one is a good stuff to talk to but so sleepy to write something looonnnnggg here)
Health! losing your health means what!
as for myself, it means dead, it means the end of everything. no more reputation, money, religion !
Whenever i've got a " big" problem such as: bad marks, accidents, insults... some one say **** a lot to you, the police put your name to shame... i often think about the worst thing , i mean what is the worst thing , the worst thing is dead, but take a look at yourself , you are still alive, is that funny ? to me , not at all !
Every day , i wake up , i often smile when knowing that i'm still alive and thanks to God for giving me this life !
i know some disable people in KhucHao club centre , some of them are blind , some are deaf and hand disabilities, some got leg problem ( truong cong hung, hope you know him) and i feel sorry for them so much but i respect them alot for their besttrying to fight against the hard life that they are suffer . ... ( tell you later if interested) .The more i look at them , the more i feel sorry for them , and the more i know the value of health !
there are a lot of things i wanna say , but time is ticking , and i'm breaking my health right now to share with you some little opinion!
    life is beautiful !
    life is beautiful

To Bigsprite: If I donot lose my sight, then why do I have to rely on my sense of touching to use that special alphabet? In this case, touching is not vital at all but sight. In your story about the blind mother, actually, all she could feel was the face of her daughter, not the moon. She would never know how the moon looks like, simply because she had never seen it. And how can we feel the beauty of a landscape only by using our imagination? I think there are things you can never know about just by touching them. Anyway, I like the idea of dying without feeling any pain of RCE. Therefore, I chose sight.
For question number 3: What is the happiest:-
    a. Going home after a long time absence
    b. Getting all A grades in all your exams
    c. Being loved by someone you love
    d. No worry about money.
I choose C. In my opinion, money is not the most important thing on earth, but love is. When you love someone, and you donot have that love returned, you will feel sad and disappointed. I think this is not only love between a boy and a girl, but love with a wider meaning. Getting all A grades in your exams doesn't mean too much to me. Some people may do very well when they are studying at university, but they donot become good employees later in life. If I get all grade A in my exams, and I have a lot of money, but I receive no love at all, life will be meaningless. Now I'm in love, sure I will not sacrifice all of my money and my studies to my love, but love is still the happiest thing to me.
Money is not the most important thing on earth.
    Love is.
    Fortunately,I LOVE MONEY!

"Religion" in my reply doesnt refer utterly to one's belief in God ( any Jesus, Buddha, or Mohammed...), but also refers to our faith and hope. Usually, when one knows terrible cancer is eating him day by day, his mind will collapse, n feel down and out. So his love of live will become his own religion, and he will have adequate health to gain time from death.
Of course, its only my thinking. When one loses his health, he will surely needs his health first of all. Not anyone is an optimist.
PS: My english is rather bad, pls help me If I made mistakes. Ts

Uhm, hi, I have just moved my topic into this topic to continue discussing:
If you are teenagers, do you intend to earn money this summer? In USA or UK, and other countries in Europe and America, this activity becomes so popular. And it neednt to discuss much. But in Vietnam, it''s quite different. I think, almost Vietnamese teenagers even dun care much about money, and they sometimes understand wrongly about earning money. They always think that earning money is just adults must do. But I dun think so. Really, earning money with teengers doesnt play an important role, but it will help us most in our life, especially when you have graduated and get a job, you will have more experience. Besides, you will get more valuable things than the money you earn yourself.
Uhm, to discuss about earning money when you are in the teenage is quite difficult, maybe you''ll agree, maybe you''''l object. But, plz think and open your mind.
When I was learning 9th form, I and some friends of my class gathered and decided to write a newspapers just for all the pupils in my school. At first we were very worried, because in that year no group else issued newspapers like us. Our group consisted of 5 people in all, and each person took on some articles each e***ion of our newspapers. I was the e***or-in-chief . I was often onine to find the information to translate, sometimes our news was hotter than Hoa hoc tro . After all articles were sent to me, I must type them on computer, then print, then correct the mistakes, then give to a person who took on the art of out newspapers. She drew to make them prettier. And at last, we just had to photocopy all. Hihi, when we joined together, we became more friendly, we learnt much from each other, we smiled, and sang all day. I remember all, and I miss those days much. Uhm, I must continue telling you about out newspapers'' adventure. In the first afternoon, they were bought by some pupils in my skool. I felt tired because I must do many many things like: selling our newspapers, introducing them to all my friends and MAKE them BUY , giving back money, especially, presenting all our teacher our newspapers (certainlly, they were very happy when they were presented it)... But, I felt very happy, although the money I got after wasnt enough for all things I had done. The lesson I got was actually more valuable.
This is just a story of mine about earning money. According to my knowledge, [nick]britneybriney[/nick] always writes articles for Hoa hoc tro, dun you ? I think you are quite excellent. But, now, I dun like to sit hours to hours just for writing something and then throw it to the recycle bin Hi`hi`, may you advice me something to do this summer?
    Plz discuss about this subject!!!
    Thanx 4 reading
You seem not to be excited to discuss about this subject, do you? Plz say me what you think about this?
