    Hip Hop Comes to Life
Rap music is heard in every corner of the world these days , and the "hip hop" culture it spawned has traveled with it. But rap''s roots are in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City, where it is still alive, well and in a permanent state of evolution .
Rapper''s Delight is commonly thought of as the "first" rap song and it is the work of The Sugar Hill Gang. The group got its name from Sugar Hill, a section of New York City''s Harlem, which lays claim to the title , "Birthplace of Hip Hop".
Kevin Powell, hip hop historian and e***or of a book called, Who Shot Ya? Three Decades of Hip Hop Photography, says that hip hop culture , of which rap music is the cornerstone , is "the dominant youth culture on the planet". "If you go to Germany, you''ll see that cats have taken the influences of , say, a Chuck D from Public Enemy and put it on their take of what''s going on in German society since the Berlin Wall came down ," explains Mr. Powell. "France is the second largest selling market for rap music on the planet. A lot of people don''t realize that, but that''s incredible. You see a mixture of French and Arab and African tra***ions creating this rap music that is indigenous to that community there." Mr. Powell says the other elements of hip hop culture fashion and dance have accompanied rap music on its ascent to "world domination." Baggy trousers , basketball shoes, and nylon skull-caps are sported by young people in New Zealand, Australia, Iceland, Africa. Kids break-dance in the Dominican Republic and Japan.
Rap music has changed dramatically in the 30 years since it first rose from the hot streets of Harlem. Although it began as entertainment, rap tracks were soon full of with politics that were as complicated as the beats and samples .

Rat tiec la ko co ban oi! Hom nay la HELLO KITTY, co ai thich ******o nay ko?
    Hello Kitty: The Craze Continues
Newsweek Looking for what she calls a "slumber party" purse at the Sanrio store in New York''s Times Square, Lisa Mejia, 29, proclaims, "I like Hello Kitty!" Maybe it''s because they''re the same age?
This November, Sanrio''s Kitty turns 30, and the world is already celebrating. In Japan -- Kitty''s home -- collectors are keeping an eye out for special gold Kitty coins as well as the $3,700 -- yes, $3,700 -- Hello Kitty robot, with 20,000 conversation patterns.
A global Kitty exhibit includes a photo of a crop circle in England shaped like the feline . In America, where Kitty pencil cases have long been a staple among schoolgirls, an October women''s surfing event in Huntington Beach, Calif., showcased her new board.
Stores have already rolled out 30th-anniversary booty like a vintage coin purse, the first Hello Kitty product. And in Los Angeles, a Hello Kitty prom dress, a Ju***h Leiber purse and sketches of Kitty from stars such as Lindsay Lohan and Calista Flockhart will be auctioned.
Bill Hensley, Sanrio''s marketing director, attributes Kitty''s enduring appeal to the fact that she''s "so incredibly cute." But Kitty and her growing family have never had a story line like, say, the "Peanuts" gang -- which may actually help. "Fans can project their own," says Hensley. Hey, a little mystery never hurts.
