Terms of Reference for VTVV Project Translators​

Introduction

VTVV stands for Voluntary Translation for Volunteerism in Viet Nam, a project initiated by two freelance volunteers in Viet Nam: Nguyen Hong Anh, from Ha Noi and Pham Thanh Nhon, from Ho Chi Minh City.

From our experience, Vietnamese youth is facing many troubles in their social works. To help ourselves as well as other peers improve knowledge and personal skills in action, we decided to start the VTVV project with the following goals:

1. Raise awareness of volunteerism in Viet Nam.
2. Improve the effectiveness of volunteer actions in Viet Nam.

We hope that the project will bring useful training materials to Vietnamese youth by translating articles, guidelines and other toolkits available in English into Vietnamese. In the future, the project may expand to provide writings from the volunteers. The project is divided into phases of six months. The first phase will last from April to October 2006.

Call for translation

VTVV needs the contribution of Vietnamese volunteers as collaborators, translators, e***ors and managers. There is no limit in the number of participants. All people who think they are capable are invited to join. However the e***ors will be chosen based on the interest and performance of the volunteer translators. The most active volunteers who show best work results and leadership will absolutely have the opportunity to become the project coordinators!

Foreign volunteers who have solid foundation of the English and Vietnamese languages are also welcome.

Work description:

õ? Translate English articles or part of toolkits into Vietnamese, one by one, and submit before the deadline.
õ? Work directly with only one e***or on choosing the documents and deadline, submitting the translation ... and all other things related to the translation.
õ? Help other translators when necessary.
õ? Report to the project managers any unsolved difficulty when working with the e***or.

Requirements:

õ? Have good enough English in translation. Previous experience is an asset.
õ? Able to be in touch with the e***or regularly.
õ? Have good cooperation skills, especially in communication.
õ? Have high responsibility and work commitment.

Volunteersõ?T benefits:

õ? Practice and improve your English as well as project-working skills.
õ? Have experience of team-working and online volunteering.
õ? Contribute to the betterment of volunteerism in Viet Nam.
õ? Get fully paid if your work(s) is/are chosen to be published on newspapers or magazines. Otherwise, the volunteers will not receive any financial support for the work.

Volunteer translators can come and leave the project at any time due to their free time, but you are strongly recommended to complete any translation of which you have taken charge. In any case, you must inform the e***or about your intention one week before.

Ad***ional terms for VTVV Project Collaborators

Due to free time, ability and interest of each individual to participate in the VTVV Project, we also call for other contribution from volunteers. Your decision of becoming a collaborator of the Project means that you are expected to do the following tasks:

õ? Suggest and recommend us resources of articles and guidelines that may be helpful for understandings of volunteerism and youth action; and skills development of the volunteers.
õ? Collect and compile in details of what documents need to be translated. (Please use the table suggested and one separate table for each source website.) Send them to the project coordinators when you finish. To avoid duplication, please contact the project coordinators before you start with any website.
õ? Help us circulate this ToR and project information to your friends and ask them to join.
õ? Send us your comments and innovative ideas for the project.

Do đặc thù của dự án liên quan đến dịch thuật từ Anh sang Việt, chúng tôi rất tiếc trong thời điểm hiện nay chưa chuẩn bị bản tiếng Việt cho những văn bản và tài liệu của dự án (trừ bản thoả thuận về quản lý dự án).

Dịch có được thù lao ko bạn ?

Chào các bạn,
Sau 3 tuần, riêng nhóm của tớ với khoảng 20 TNV đã dịch được 30 bài báo, tuy nhiên mới chỉ đăng được 8 bài do tớ cũng không có nhiều thời gian để e*** vì công việc điều phối cũng khá mất thời gian. Mới đăng trên www.aoxanh.net và http://tnt.vasc.com.vn do tớ mới chỉ liên hệ với admin của 2 websites này.
Hiện tớ đang cần tìm một (vài) TNV giúp tớ liên lạc với báo chí và các CLB tình nguyện hoặc các trang web của thanh niên để mở rộng phạm vi đưa các bài dịch đến với thanh niên VN được nhiều nhất.
Nếu bạn đang có một trang web muốn đăng các bài dịch của bọn tớ về hoạt động của thanh niên, trong đó tập trung vào hoạt động tình nguyện thì hãy chủ động liên hệ với tớ nhé. Email: pinkie_ahn@yahoo.com
