    www.ucas.ac.uk hay www.ucas.com
    courses
    course search
    subject search

M.A in Development Economics mà bạn đang tìm có ở đây nè!
M.A in Development Economics at the University of East Anglia
    MA in Development Economics

The study of development in low-income countries is attracting more attention around the world than ever before. International development agencies and academic institutions increasingly recognise that the study of economic development requires an approach that is analytically rigorous and, at the same, problem- and policy-oriented.
Directed and taught by a team of experienced and internationally-respected development economists, this MA provides advanced level training opportunities both to recent graduates and mid-career professionals looking to update their analytical techniques and practical skills, or to acquire new ones. The course emphasises the development of research skills that are essential, not only for further study in the field of development economics, but also in practical development work, preparing students for employment with government ministries, national and international development agencies, NGOs, and the private sector.
The MA in Development Economics (MADE) received 1+3 recognition in the recent ESRC (Economic & Social Research Council) interim recognition exercise. This means that the MADE meets the formal ESRC requirements for research training in economics at the Master''s level, as spelt out in the ESRC guidelines. It also means that UK and EU applicants to the MADE may apply for funding of PhD research under the 1+3 or the +3 studentship programmes of the ESRC. For further information visit the ESRC web site at: www.esrc.ac.uk/esrccontent/postgradfunding/foindex.asp
Applicants for the MADE programme should have a first degree in either economics or joint economics. All students are expected to attend an introductory course in mathematics and statistics for economists for two weeks in September, before enrolling for this MA. There is no tuition fee for this introductory course and accommodation on campus can be arranged.

    Funding Your Course of Study
This information which follows is intended to help you to identify sources of financial support before your course begins.
Please note: the information given below is intended as a general guide - it does not represent an exhaustive list of all available funding. You are encouraged to apply to all sources of funds for which you may be eligible. International students should approach their local British Council, or British High Commission for information on local funding. The level of competition for most of the awards mentioned here is extremely high and candidates are usually assessed on past, and potential academic performance. If you require a grant in order to undertake your studies, your application should be made as early in the year as possible: applications received after MARCH cannot be considered for most scholarships.
The majority of international postgraduate students taking courses in the School of Development Studies are sponsored by their governments, their employers, or an agency such as the British Council.
Most UK and European Union students are self-financing. UK students should investigate Career Development Loans, available from major banks.
There are only a small number of sources relative to the number of students looking for help. You should not begin a new course unless you are confident that you have enough money for its duration, bearing in mind that fees and expenses are likely to increase annually. Although it is increasingly possible for international students to work part-time whilst studying in the UK (currently 20 hours a week for full-time students), you should not rely on funding your studies through vacation or part-time work since your earnings are likely to be low in relation to your expenses.
    * - an asterisk denotes grants/awards for which direct personal application by yourself is not required; in these cases the School automatically considers for nomination all students to whom offers have been made.
    GENERAL (UK RESIDENTS)
The first port of call should be the Grants Register (McMillan) which can be found in all institutional and many public libraries. It lists a large number of awards and, by way of its comprehensive index, applications can be directed towards awards related to the subject area in which you intend to study. Also consult Educational Charities: a guide to educational trust funds. Watch the press (especially The Guardian, The Independent, The Times and The Times Higher Educational Supplement) for the announcement of various scholarships and awards, especially in March and April. Residents of Northern Ireland should also write to the Department of Education, Rathgael House, Balloo Road, Bangor, Co.Down BT19 2PR. Organisations'' web sites are a good way to update yourself on what is available.
Approach your employer, and any charitable institution/private foundation you know of. Until recently, Local Education Authorities did not support taught courses in Development Studies as they came under the remit of the ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council). However, from 2002 onwards, the ESRC are no longer offering scholarships for taught courses, so it may be worth contacting your LEA to see if they will consider supporting you. The Isle of Man LEA is supporting a student this year.
    Scholarships available to UK residents
Department for International Development (DfID): DfID offers a small number of awards, under their Associate Professional Officer schemes, to undertake postgraduate training. Priority is usually given to candidates for one-year taught courses, under the age of 35, who have had at least 12 months of relevant work experience. Application forms and further information can be obtained from the APOS Appointments Officer, Abercrombie House, Eaglesham Road, East Kilbride, Glasgow, G75 8EA. The closing date is 31 December.
    GENERAL (NON-UK RESIDENTS)
Students planning to come to the UK to study should seek information from their own Ministry of Education and from the nearest British Council Office, British Embassy or British High Commission. Students already in the UK can obtain information from their own Embassy or High Commission and the British Council regional or London offices. Further information on funding may be obtained from the UK Council for Overseas Students Affairs, 60 Westbourne Grove, London W2 5FG.
    Scholarships available to international students
Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowships: Under the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship plan, scholarships are offered annually by the UK to Commonwealth citizens resident in a Commonwealth country other than the UK itself. Awards are for university postgraduate study or research, and are administered by the Department for International Development, Abercrombie House, Eaglesham Road, East Kilbride, Glasgow, G75 8EA. Also, the Association of Commonwealth Universities offers research studentships to academic staff of Commonwealth countries. Candidates must apply through the appropriate agency in their country of normal residence. Students already resident in the UK should write to the Commonwealth Scholarship Agency, 36 Gordon Square, London WC1.
British Council Scholarships - Chevening Awards: The British Council offers a few awards at postgraduate level to scholars from many countries for a variety of courses of advanced study or research in the UK. Applications must be made to the Representative of the British Council in the country concerned. Applications cannot be made from the UK. The closing date is October of the year before the award is due to start.
Technical Cooperation Training Programme: The UK Department for International Development makes approximately 500 awards annually to those likely to further the development of their home country. They are not awarded for humanities or arts subjects. Awards are not open for direct personal application. Details may be obtained from the Ministry of Education in the candidate''s own country, or from the nearest British Council office.
    * Department for International Development (DfID) Shared Scholarship Scheme (SSS): These awards are available to candidates, under 35 years old, from developing Commonwealth countries who have been offered a place on an advanced TAUGHT course. The University is able to nominate one student per year for an SSS scholarship. All candidates to whom the School has made an offer are automatically considered for nomination and the appropriate application forms are automatically sent to those students selected. Students already studying in the developed countries are not eligible; neither are employees of government or parastatal bodies. The School is required *****bmit nominations by 31 March each year.
    * The University of East Anglia: UEA usually offers 6 partial scholarships to international students from Japan, Korea, Malaysia, India, Taiwan and Indonesia. Nominations are made by the School from those who have accepted a place by June each year, and who are not in receipt of government funding. The scholarship consists of a contribution towards the cost of tuition fees. Please do not write to the School when you receive information on awards from the University''s International Office. If you have been selected for a scholarship or award, you will be informed.
World Council of Churches: Candidates who are directly engaged in church service, or community service, or who have previous theological education may be eligible to apply for a WCC scholarship. Candidates should normally have had some working experience related to their proposed field of study. Applications should be made through a candidate''s local church or church-related organisation -a WCC application form is made available by the National Correspondent only after local selection has taken place. Further details may be obtained directly from the World Council of Churches Scholarship Secretary, 150 Route de Ferney, PO Box 66, 1211 Geneva 20, Switzerland.
African Educational Trust: Candidates from African countries may be eligible to apply for an African Educational Trust scholarship. The address is African Educational Trust, 38 King St, London WC26 8JS.
World Bank: Applicants must be a national of a World Bank member country, under 45 years of age, hold a bachelor''s degree with superior grades, have two years of recent employment in economic development activities and have been admitted to a university renowned for development research and teaching. Deadline : mid-March. Contact address: World Bank, Graduate Scholarship Program, 1818 H Street, N.W. --Room M 4001, Washington, DC 20036, USA.
