    Quoted....
Topic for Thursday, November 20, 2008
    Dilemmas.
    Dilemma 1 - Sophie"s choice.
A Polish woman, Sophie, was arrested by the Nazis and sent to the death camp. On arrival, she was "honored" for not being a Jew by being allowed a choice:
One of her children will be spared the gas chamber if she chooses which one.
In an agony of indecision, as both children were being taken away, she suddenly did choose. They could take her daughter, who was younger and smaller. Sophie hoped that her older and stronger son would be better able *****rvive, but she lost track of him and never did learn of his fate.
Years later, haunted by the guilt of having chosen between her children, Sophie committed suicide.
    According to you:
    1. Did Sophie do the right thing?
    2. Should she have felt guilty?
    3. What would you do if you were Sophie?
    Dilemma 2 - A Father''''''''s Agonizing Choice.
You are an inmate in a concentration camp. A sadistic guard is about to hang your son who tried to escape and wants you to pull the chair from underneath him. He says that if you don''''''''t he will not only kill your son but some other innocent inmate as well. You don''''''''t have any doubt that he means what he says.
    What should you do?

    Next dilemma:
    THE TRANSPLANT SURGEON''S CHOICE.
A transplant surgeon has five patients. Each urgently needs a different organ or dies soon. Unluckily, no organs available at the moment to perform any of these five transplant operations.
At that time a young and healthy tourist gets injured in a car accident and is brought to the hospital where the surgeon works. He is unconscious but his con***ion is non-critical. He is hooked up to life support and will recover soon.
When doing checkup on the young tourist, the surgeon notices the manâ?Ts organs are in perfect con***ions and totally compatible with his five patients. The surgeon starts thinking about the possibility of turning off the life support (to kill the man) in order to save his patients.
If the young man disappears, no one suspects nothing the surgeon.
Should the surgeon turn off the tourist''s life support?

I thought I understand the mother when she decided to commit suicide, and tonight by the time I had read the story, I was not completely agree with that decision.
The second dilemma has been somewhere in my mind the whole time then. The thing is I always feel horrible to think about it, much more horrible than at the time I had read and discussed about it at our club. Whenever the image of the father arise in my head, I just want to go to toilet.
Now I already completely haunt by the story and somehow touch the the mother''s emotion. Gee, better not thinking about it :(

Oh dear, you seem to be extremely serious. The topics are just the matter of social life. I donâ?Tt mean that the father always has to pull the chair from underneath his child, or mother doesnâ?Tt have to make such a hard decision, the main factor is that all of us are usually in dilemma. Let think about the situation of this father. If he does not pull the chair of his son, he has to do so with other â?osons or daughtersâ?, so???? Actually, he still has to pull the chair whoever will be hung.
To my point of view, I will not choose to pull that chair, because it can be seen that the father and other inmates are all in jail. â?o In jailâ? means even you donâ?Tt die of sentence, you will have to be in great torment of being sponger or worthless person. Then, even the son who will die or not, the other who are in jail still have to die, and this father is still called the killer.
Anyway, this is only my own opinion, there may be some other interesting ideas like the ones yesterday. Thank you for reading.
