    More melancholic poems about rain ... To all lovely members .
    The rainy day
    The day is cold, and dark, and dreary;
    It rains, and the wind is never weary;
    The vine still clings to the moldering wall,
    But at every gust the dead leaves fall,
    And the day is dark and dreary .
    My life is cold, and dark, and dreary;
    It rains, and the wind is never weary;
    My thoughts still cling to the moldering Past,
    But the hopes of youth fall thick in the blast .
    And the days are dark and dreary .
    Be still, sad heart ! and cease repining;
    Behind the clouds is the sun still shining;
    Thy fate is the common fate of all,
    Into each life some rain must fall,
    Some days must be dark and dreary .
    Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
    (1807 - 1882)

    Ngày Mưa
    Ngày giá lạnh , tối tăm , buồn vời vợi ;
    Màn mưa giăng và gió mãi bên trời ;
    Giàn nho xưa vẫn leo nơi tường đổ ,
    Lá khô vàng theo gió nhẹ buông rơi ,
    Ngày tối tăm , buồn day dứt lòng người .
    Đời ta lạnh , tối tăm , buồn vời vợi ;
    Trời giăng mưa và gió mãi muôn nơi;
    Tâm tư trao về Dĩ Vãng tơi bời ,
    Bao hy vọng thiếu thời trôi theo gió,
    Ngày tối tăm , buồn không có bến bờ .
    Tim sầu ơi hãy yên ! Đừng than nữa !
    Khuất sau mây luôn rạng rỡ mặt trời ;
    Số phận ngươi cùng chung phận muôn người ,
    Đời ai cũng có đôi ngày mưa đổ ,
    Có đôi ngày buồn khổ, tối tăm thay !

    Dear Brother Hưng,
    I want to thank your two poems.They are wonderful.All words to praise are unnessersary here.My hat is off to you.
    Your Vietnamese is very good.The vocabulary you used is very strange and interesting :"bờ mương thị thành"( image it in Ho Chi Minh city) in the first poem.
    The rythm is very slight and simple like rainy sound which make me feel more comportable in the time ( i like rain so much:walking in the slight rain with the friend,drink hot tea.... ).
    "Để mưa hôn nhé em yêu
    Để mưa vỗ nhẹ giọt gieo mái đầu..."
    remind me a song by Trinh Cong Son "Thà làm hạt mưa bay ước tóc em một ngày..." but unfortunately "mưa thành vũng lặng bên đường" follow.How dissapointed it is.
    I read it carefully but i do not still understand some points.The first one is two pronouns "You and I" in the poem ( esspecially at "on your roof at night").Secondly, Brother Hưng did not obey the law of "lục bát" at the second sentence(đọc không thấy "sướng tai " lắm).The last one is the meaning of two last lines.I prefer the meaning in the english verson."Litle sleep-song" help me know the author writting the poem at late night ."đêm khuya nghe tiếng mưa rơi"...it is so lonely and emoted.Listening the rain to forget,to sleep and to think the life,think about the Past.At certain time in my life, i listened...and now i have listened....Everything is the same,just the time is different.And the person has changed.
    Thank Brother Hưng again.

    Dear Brother Hưng,
    Today i have a chance to read your second poem carefully.I like it very much.Maybe that is because i like sad poem and rain.The work of the tranlator for poem from a language into another is very difficult i should say.Once i tried tranlating one english poem into vietnamese.Hahaha...it was so funny.I lost many things such as rythm,meaning,ect...I think the some reasons can be included:the characteritics of own poetry kinds,the difference between two languages.
    Tranlating poem is not easy.Some people have even project of doctorate for this work (to tranlate from a "Đường thi " poem into "Quốc Âm" poem).How to keep the meaning,the art of the poetry kind,ect...
    And now i want to discuss about the second poem.My knowledge about english poem is very limited.So i do not dare to discuss about it althought i think it sound lyricful and meaningful (i opened this topic with the hope that i could learn more and more about english poem).
    Firstly,i want to compare two first paragraphs:their structures are very similar (it is similar to "Nghệ thuật đối" in "Đường thi",sorry if i can not write it in english )."The day" is replaced by "My life","the day" by "the days",etc.The author went from special to general,emote about the scene in a day to the days of his life.Sometimes we feel sad about something and we suppose it at all.And i suppose that the author is pessimistics( seeing one unhappy thing and suppose all of things are unhappy).But what we saw in the third paragraph.Everything changed.We are happy with it....I think rein-forcing method was used very successfully here.
    Secondly, i do not know why the Brother tranlated one english sentence into two vietnamese sentences?
    Anyway,your work is wonderful ,Brother.I hope i can read more and more wonderful poem like them by you as well as everybody.Thank you very much.
    Regard,

    Hi Tao_Lao,
    I am so glad you can distinguish those lovely metaphor (paragraph 1 & 2) on that poem . Aren't they wonderful ? Rain always brings out the poetic side of me. By the way, the Vietnamese conversion (I intentionally avoid using the word "transalation" since we joke about translating poem is equal to destroying then : Dich tho = diet tho ) of those poems were from a relative of mine. I did discuss and gave my 2 cents about the meaning, the denotation or connotation of the English version, but this is all his . I would love to take cre*** of those lovely poems but ... can't . I could not possibly convert or possess such an artistically poetic skill .
    Will post some more of those (bilingual) poem . Take care , buddy !

    Mưa Xuân
    Tưỡng chừng em đã quên rồi
    Nào ngờ kỹ niệm giăng trời về đây
    Vang theo tiếng sấm đêm nay
    Trong cơn mưa vội một ngày đầu xuân
    Nhớ xưa hiên tối dừng chân
    Nép nhau tránh bão thét gầm thỗi ngang,
    Địa cầu sấm nỗ rền vang
    Ngoằn ngoèo tia chớp xé toang bầu trời .
    Phố phường ngập nước mưa rơi,
    Dòng xe qua lại chơi vơi, chòng chành .
    Mặt đường sóng nước long lanh,
    Đèn khuya vàng vọt rọi quanh một vùng .
    Mưa xuân reo sấm không trung
    Lòng em cuồng nhiệt tưng bừng lữa yêu;
    Môi chàng từng thốt đã nhiều
    Mắt chàng đêm đó muôn điều nói thêm ...
    Tưỡng chừng em đã lãng quên
    Nào ngờ kỹ niệm êm đềm về đây
    Vang theo tiếng sấm đêm nay
    Trong cơn mưa vội một ngày đầu xuân

    Spring Rain
    I thought I had forgotten,
    But it all came back again
    To-night with the first spring thunder
    In a rush of rain .
    I remembered a darkened doorway
    Where we stood while the storm swept by,
    Thunder gripping the earth
    And lightning scrawled on the sky .
    The passing motor busses swayed ,
    For the street was a river of rain ,
    Lashed into little golden waves
    In the lamp light's stain .
    With the wild spring rain and thunder
    My heart was wild and gay;
    Your eyes said more to me that night
    Than your lips would ever say ...
    I thought I had forgotten ,
    But it all came back again
    To-night with the first spring thunder
    In a rush of rain .
    Sara Teasdale (1884 - 1933)
