Former Barca ace test positive for nandrolone

Brescia and former Barcelona midfielder Josep Guardiola has been tested positive for the banned steroid nandrolone.

The Spanish international tested positive after Brescia's match against Piacenza on October 21st.

Guardiola determined to prove he is innocent of doping
ROME, Nov 23 (AFP)
Spanish international midfielder Josef Guardiola said on Friday he was certain he could prove his innocence after the Brescia player tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid nandrolone.
"I am disappointed, but I'm certain I'll succeed in proving my innocence because I believe in everything I've done since I turned professional," Guardiola told a press conference.
The Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) said on Thursday that the former Barcelona star, nicknamed 'Pep', had tested positive after his side's Italian first division match with Piacenza on October 21.
But Guardiola said: "The scientific instruments say I took nandrolone but the man himself is telling you that it is not true."
He said that for the past six or seven years he had been taking vitamin supplements developed by the University of Catalonia.
"They are simple vitamins which have the same content as orange juice. I respect myself too much to harm myself," Guardiola said.
He added he had undergone a large number of drug tests during his Barcelona career and also while playing for Spain but had never had a positive test.
His positive test comes days after Lazio's Dutch international defender Jaap Stam also tested positive for nandrolone. The former Manchester United player has been suspended pending a second test.
Guardiola said: "I have no idea why there have been positive tests in Italy."
He said he would stay at Brescia while he waited for the results of a second drugs test and thanked club officials for their support.

Josep Guardiola is set to quit football if he fails to clear his name after testing posisitve for nadrolone.
The Brescia midfielder said: "If I am banned I will stop playing, but I am not ready for that," stormed the former Barcelona star.
"I am angry about one thing: I know that a man is innocent until proven guilty, yet I am already condemned as a drug user.
"In every year that I have played football, with Barcelona and the Spanish national team, I have passed so many tests and nothing has ever happened.
"People can think what they like. I really don't know whether the machine was faulty or what happened. The only thing I have ever taken is vitamins to help my body and help my team. I have taken these for six or seven years and they are fine.
