Report: Flight control system problem caused F/A-22 crash
A flight control system problem caused an F/A-22 Raptor to crash on the runway at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., on Dec. 20 2004, according to an Air Force report.
The pilot ejected and sustained minor injuries. The $133.3-million aircraft, assigned to the 422nd Test and Evaluation Squadron at Nellis, was destroyed when it crashed. Ad***ional damage was limited to an arresting cable, runway guide sign, runway light and the runway itself.
The flight control system malfunction was caused by a brief power interruption to the aircraft?Ts three rate sensor assemblies, which caused them to fail. The assemblies measure angular acceleration in all three axes: pitch, roll and yaw. With three failed assemblies, the F/A-22 is not able to fly, investigators said.
When the pilot shut down engines for maintenance servicing, he left the auxiliary power unit running. Based on technical order guidance, he believed the power unit would supply continuous power to the flight control system. However, there was a less-than-one second power interruption to the assemblies during engine shutdown.
There is no automatic warning of this con***ion. To discover it, the pilot would have had performed a diagnostic test. The pilot accomplished a successful test before engine shutdown, and because the power unit was on, he believed a second test was unnecessary. (Courtesy of Air Combat Command News Service)

Washinton ?" December 30, 2004 The Pentagon is planning deep reductions in spending on the costliest fighter jet ever built. Costreductions are inevitible amid rising spending on the Iraq war, U.S. defense officials said on Wednesday.
The fast, agile, stealthy Raptor is slated to replace the aging F-15 Eagle, which was first made three decades ago, as the front-line U.S. fighter jet starting in 2005.
Proponents view the F/A-22 as vital for maintaining U.S. air superiority in future conflicts, but its costs have escalated and some Pentagon officials have questioned how much the aircraft is needed as American forces confront low-tech enemies in Iraq and elsewhere.
The White House has asked federal departments to shrink requests for spending in the next fiscal year, at the same time costs of the 21-month-old Iraq war have been mounting.
Defense officials, speaking on con***ion of anonymity, said the Pentagon has informed officials at the White House as well as Congress that the Pentagon intended to scale back spending on the F/A-22, but did not give a precise amount.
The decision comes to light in the aftermath of the Dec. 20 crash of one of the 29 Raptors already delivered to the Air Force. The F/A-22 crashed on takeoff at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, and the pilot ejected safely.
The Air Force has launched two separate investigations into the crash and has ceased flights of the remaining 28 F/A-22s for the time being in a precautionary "safety stand-down," said Doug Karas, an Air Force spokesman at the Pentagon.
"I don´t have an estimate as to when they´re going to go back in the air," Karas added.
About $40 billion has been spent on the F/A-22 program to date. The Air Force put the current cost per plane at $256.8 million with developmental expenses factored in, and $133.3 million with those expenses excluded.
Convergence of factors
"What´s really happening here is that the cost of the Iraq war and the need to trim budget deficits are converging with a long-standing desire among some of (Defense Secretary Donald) Rumsfeld´s advisers to cut back conventional weapons programs," said defense analyst Loren Thompson of the Lexington Institute think tank.
The Air Force had planned to purchase 277 F/A-22s. Thompson said the Pentagon may close out the production program at about 160 planes at the end of the decade.
"I think there are two challenges the Raptor faces. First of all, as the size of the production run has been cut back, the cost of each individual aircraft has gone up to the point where it has become controversial," Thompson said. "Secondly, threats have changed in a way that has led some policymakers to believe that air superiority is not as important as it used to be."
Tom Jurkowsky, a spokesman for giant defense contractor Lockheed Martin Corp. , the F/A-22´s manufacturer, said, "We have not been informed of any changes to the status of the program by either the Air Force or the Department of Defense."
Under Rumsfeld, the Pentagon has canceled big-ticket weapons such as the Comanche armed reconnaissance helicopter this past February and the Crusader self-propelled howitzer in 2002, and there has been a lag in the Navy´s ship-building program.
Thompson said the Navy is looking at cutting the size of its aircraft carrier fleet by a quarter and its submarine fleet by a third.

Có bác nào rành về con M28 cho em hỏi một tý. nếu M28 mà phát hiện ra tàu nổi của địch hoặc tàu ngầm thì nó có thể tự bụp đối thủ không, hay là phải gọi Su22M4 hoặc tarantul ra bụp vậy ?

Khi M28 gặp Sub hay Detroyer thì nó chỉ hú Su hoặc taranful thôi bác à. Nó gọn nhẹ khả năng bay biển tốt nên chỉ làm trinh sát cứu hộ thôi. Riêng tớ thấy con này làm chuyên cơ cho VIP đi thị sát thì êm và gọn hơn ngồi ATR72 nhiều.
Em này cao quí và đoan trang hơn L.19 và U.17 thời xưa, nhưng cũng vẫn chỉ là dòng FAC (Flight Attack Control) thôi!

Máy bay bị tai nạn là chuyện thường và đặc biệt trong giai đoạn bay thử nghiệm không có loại nào không rơi vài lần từ đó người ta mới khắc phục thiếu sót trong thiết kế . Nhưng sau xác nhận hai phi công lái hôm đó là những phi công giỏi nhất và giàu kinh nghiệm nhất của quân đội . người ta lại nói lỗi vì động cơ trục trặc . thế nhưng sau đó từ phim của người đi xem người ta xác nhận hôm đó máy bay thực hiện cú bay " rắn hổ mang " nổi tiếng của SU-27 nhưng lần này thực hiện ở độ cao tương đối thấp và phi công muốn phá kỷ lục bằng cú ngả rất nhiều về sau . ngay sau đó người ta nhìn thấy máy bay mất thăng bằng động cơ fail và máy bay lượn nhào xuống đất . nó xà sát mặt đất rồi lộn nhaò đâm vào máy bay đậu trên sân và nổ tung . SU-27...là loại duy nhất có khả năng làm cú bay trên nhưng điều đó không có nghĩa là mọi phi công đều làm được và làm an toàn . Đó là một cú biểu diển khá nguy hiểm . Bác HuyPhuc ơi, hình như tai nạn ở Paris là của MIG-29 chứ. Hay là còn một tai nạn khác.
Vụ tai nạn ở LVOV, Ucraina, nguyên nhân chắc là do phi công, không tuân thủ theo qui định an toàn bay khi biểu diễn, đưa máy bay xuống thấp quá. Máy bay tự nhiên mất cân bằng, thế là 77 người thiệt mạng.
Bác HP có biết gì về chiếc J-10 của TQ không, có gì khác nhau về ưu và nhược điểm với SU-27. Chiếc này tuy là tiêm kích hạng nhẹ nhưng có trang bị động cơ dành cho SU-27. Một số chuyên gia đánh giá chiếc J-10 có thẻ trở thành một chiếc máy bay phổ biến trong tương lai, tương tự như MIG-21 hoặc F-16.
