    ROSOBORONEXPORT PRESENTS
    RUSSIAN DEFENSE INDUSTRIES
    AT LIMA'' 2005
    5 December 2005
Tra***ionally, Russia takes part in the LIMA Exhibition. At this salon Russian defense industries can show their capabilities to the full extent possible, in the interests of military and technical cooperation with the countries of South-East Asia and the Asia-Pacific region, in general.
Southeast Asian countries rank among Russia''s priority partners in military and technical cooperation. In this region, Malaysia and Indonesia are the major importers of Russian armaments. In concrete terms, the 2003 delivery contract of Su-27 and Su-30 combat aircraft and Mi-35 helicopters to Indonesia was successfully performed. There are good prospects for the further development of military and technical cooperation with that country, including aviation and naval equipment. For almost ten years MiG-29 fighters have been operated by the Malaysian Air Force. In ad***ion, delivery contracts of Metis anti-tank guided-missile systems and Igla man-portable air defense systems were successfully carried out.
Russian-Malaysian relations have received a powerful impulse as the result of the visit by the President of the Russian Federation V.V.Putin to Malaysia in August 2003, during which a contract was signed for delivery of 18 multi-purpose Su-30MKM fighters for the national Air Force. Within the contract, Rosoboronexport carries out several offset programs, with a Malaysian cosmonaut flight to the International Space Station as the key project planned for 2007.
In accordance with the decision of the Government of the Russian Federation, Rosoboronexport is authorized *****pervise the Russian exposition at LIMA''2005. It represents more than 20 enterprises of the Russian defense industrial complex. There are over 450 military and dual-purpose exhibits displayed at the Russian stands.
Aviation equipment, antiaircraft defense systems, space technologies
Russia has strong positions among the leading world exporters of military aviation equipment. Air and space services make a large share of annual foreign deliveries by Rosoboronexport exceeding $5 bln in the past several years.
As its distinctive feature, the Russian exposition at LIMAâ?T 2005 has a wide range of aviation equipment. The Yak-130 training and combat plane will demonstrate its extraordinary flight performance in the skies over Langkawi. The plane can be used both for training flight personnel and flying assault missions in limited intensity conflicts. Having this plane as part of a future reconnaissance-strike complex that has in its formation a reconnaissance and target UAV considerably enhances its commercial chances, including those in Southeast Asian countries.
    The exposition features an export range of Sukhoi-family aircraft of "4" and "4+" generations, including Su-27CKM fighter, multi-purpose Su-30MK and Su-35 fighters, Su-32 fighter-bomber and Su-39 strike-fighter.
Visitors are offered promotional materials on modified MiG-family combat aircraft of several generations, including MiG-21BIS, MiG-23MLD, MiG-29M, Mig-29M2 and MiG-29SMT.
The exposition has a variety of samples of Russian airborne armament on display, including the short range P-73E air-to-air missile with a connecting pylon to fit foreign aircraft, and high performance medium range air-launched air-to-air PBB-AE missile. Besides, foreign customers are offered land-based launchers for the PBB-AE missile to be used for air defense.
A considerable part of the Russian exposition is allocated for export versions of helicopters, including Mi-171Sh transport-combat helicopter, Mi-28NE combat rotorcraft, Mi-35 transport combat helicopters and Ka-5O combat helicopters. Definitely, there will be great interest in the largest in the world Mi-26 heavy military-transport helicopter, which is designed to facilitate maneuvering of troops with combat equipment and transportation of large cargo with total weight of up to 20 tons. In its landing version the helicopter can carry up to 82 paratroopers. Mi-26 has an extensive record of service in many countries of the world and the Southeast Asian region.
Specialists from the countries of the region will be able to familiarize themselves with Russian anti-aircraft defense systems, including Tor-M1 anti-aircraft defense system and Tunguska-M1 anti-aircraft gun/missile system. Buk-M1-2 medium range anti-aircraft missile system also has good export prospects in the Southeast Asian countries. It is the only medium range air defense system in the world that can destroy in unfriendly environment of radio and fire countermeasures not only strategic and tactical aircraft, helicopters and cruise missiles but also short range ballistic and air-launched missiles, including antiradar missiles that are capable of countering elements of high-precision weapons, as well as surface targets.
In view of good prospects for cooperation with countries of the region in the area of space exploration, the exposition features the Condor-E earth remote sensing system based on small space vehicles. It is designed for obtaining operational detailed information about objects on Earth surface and offshore zones, and it can be used for environmental monitoring of large areas and as a warning system of natural and industrial disasters, as well as for mapping, research and management of natural resources, and solution of scientific and applied science problems, etc.
    Naval equipment and armament
Russian naval equipment is in great and ever growing demand in the world market. It is for the first time in the history of military and technical cooperation between Russia and foreign countries that this year the naval component share will amount to more than one half of the total volume of export deliveries.
In view of specific geographic features of the Asia-Pacific region and the growing need to ensure security of coastal areas, special attention in the naval component of the Russian exposition is devoted *****rface ships of small and medium displacement. Project 12421 and 12418 Molniya missile boats, project 12300 Scorpion missile gunboats, project 12150 Mangust patrol boats, 12200 Sobol, 14310 Mirage, 10412 Svetliak of 10 to 550 ton displacement and speed of 55 knots are considered by right to be among the best in the world. These ships are very efficient in fighting sea piracy, drug trafficking and terrorism, and as a result arouse special interest in Southeast Asian countries.
Alongside with certain types of armaments, the countries of the region are offered a coastal zone control integrated system that will be presented by Rosoboronexport at the international scientific and practical LIMA Maritime Conference''2005.
The Russian exposition at the salon also includes ships that can enhance the capabilities of naval forces in the countries of the region: Project 11541 Korsar escort vessel and project 20382 Tigr corvette, armed with A190E 100mm automatic gun mount, which surpasses modern foreign analogues in a number of combat features.
There are really good prospects for Project 12061E Murena air-cushion ships that can shift at long distances at the speed of 55 knots and land on unprepared terrain assault units and combat equipment, including tanks, armored personnel carriers and infantry combat vehicles.
Among the submarines displayed at the exposition there is Project 636 with the CLUB-S integrated missile weapon system and the next generation Amur-1650 submarine. Besides, the Russian exposition presents small coastal submarines.
Along with various types of combat ships foreign customers are offered all sorts of weapons systems, combat and technical systems that can be assembled on board the ships under construction in shipyards. In the world market there is a high demand for Russian CLUB-S and CLUB-N integrated missile weapon systems, which provide guaranteed destruction of hostile ships and submarines even in intensive fire and ECM con***ions. Anti-ship cruise and anti-aircraft missiles, artillery and anti-submarine weapons will certainly attract visitors'' attention too.

Rosoboronexport is confident that Russian participation in the regular LIMA''2005 Exhibition will be an important stage in expanding military and technical cooperation between Russia and Malaysia, and other countries of Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region.

IRKUTSK: Russian aircraft-makers will begin supplying Su-30MKM fighters to Malaysia in 2006, officials at the Irkut research and production corporation told Itar-Tass on Thursday.
Although the 900-million-dollar contract to manufacture 18 Su-30MKM aircraft was signed in the summer of 2003, the parties began its implementation in the beginning of this year.
A group of Malaysian Air Force experts has come to the city of Irkutsk to specify the procedures to purchase equipment and materials.
Earlier, Russia supplied several dozen such planes /Su-30MKI/ to India.
The aircraft is a multi-purposes fighter intended for winning air superiority and destroying ground and seaborne targets. It can fly missions at a considerable distance from the base, in all weather con***ions, day and night, and amidst electronic warfare.
Aside from the manufacture of 18 Su-30MKM, the contract envisions their servicing in Malaysia, with subsequent modernization, if necessary.
To this end, Irkut, the head company, will open a service center in Malaysia
