Flying cheap​

Do you know such brands as: Vietjet Air, Jet Star and AirAsia? All of those air -transportation enterprises have a common feature, the price of ticket is low. It is undeniable that they provided us more opportunities to travel by air, as well as made our dream to fly come true. Notwithstanding, everything has its pros and cons. As you know that, everyone wants to fly but the quantity of seats is limited, leading to the rarity of ticket. Moreover, the quality of flight is not good at all, coming with the fixed timetable, it means you are unable to change the ticket. Sometimes, you have to wait longer than usual to get in a fly due to unwanted delay, or late arriving.

1. Have you ever traveled by the cheap-ticket flight? Do you feel satisfied? How do you think about the quality in comparison with usual flight?
2. Could you show the advantages and disadvantages of this kind of air-traveling?
3. The root of cheap in flight ticket is that those firms cut off the ad***ional free services like: meal, magazine, entertainment as well as not using the paper ticket. Besides, they have only a small plan (feeling like you are in crowded bus at the rough road) and choose the small air port (with lower con***ion of service). More importantly, the position of seat is random, and when the flight is postponed, you do not receive any compensation. However, they are cheap! It’s always the massive advantage. So, how do you think about its potential in the future? Good or not, let discuss.

Travelling – HuyenChip’s Story​

Preface:
About Huyenchip and “Take your backpack and go”, there are still heated and aggressive debates all over the Internet. People talked about the truthfulness of the story and a large number of evidences were shown to prove the book is nothing more than a lie. After the release of the book, there appears a man named Tran Ngoc Thinh – a “Fulbrighter” – who presented a petition for suspending the release of “Take your backpack and go” to the Vietnam ministry of information and communication. The battle does not seem to come to an end easily and peacefully, between Huyenchip’s fellows and those who seek for the truth.

Discussion Guidance:
1. You support or discourage the release of “TYB&G”? Make your choice and give explanation.
2. Why do people not dare to go backpacking like Huyenchip, considering from many perspectives such as family, job, society, health, attitude…? It is also the reason why HC stands out like an idol of the youth recently. Forget all about those restrictions, do you want to take a long trip, even not as long as Huyenchip’s, though? What will you prepare?
3. About backpackers, there are some ideas saying the people are selfish and daredevil, because they do dangerous things and do not think seriously about others who are waiting for them namely their parents, friends.

Nursing home​

In this day and age, it seems that nursing homes becomes the major supplier of long‐stay care for frail older people all over the world. Especially, this trend is significantly growing in Vietnam. Actually, the more developed the life is, the busier people are. This is a reason why a number of people have no time to take care their parents. Therefore, sons and daughters decide to send their moms and dads to the nursing home with hope that their parents will have a better life than staying at home. Nonetheless, some people believed that a nursing home is such an “orphanage” for the elderly residents. Their children do not want to attend to “the old” so sending parents to nursing homes is a good way to help grown-up children get out of that responsibility.

Questions:
1. Do you agree with this trend? Why? Do you think the elders will be satisfied if they live in nursing homes?
2. Have you ever thought that nursing home will be the place for your parents in the future? Give some reasons for your opinions.
3. In fact, more and more old people are mistreated by their children. For instance, they become beggars and sleep on the pavement because being evicted from home. What do you think about this issue and the importance of nursing homes in these cases?

SOFT SKILL​

Upon your application for a job or interaction with people in society, you always think that everybody will be impressed by an overwhelming number of your certificates, a wealth of your valuable experience and wide networks of relationship. You consider those are the significant goals that you have to achieve in your life; you idolize them and employ all your tactics to realize them anyway. Those stuffs may be not enough for you to advance in your career though, because you also need soft skills.
So what are soft skills? Soft skills mainly are the expediencies belonging to humankind’s characteristics that do not bear specialized features and are somewhat untouchable. They determine who you will become- a conductor, a listener, an orator, a negotiator or a mediator. Hard skills, on the contrary, are often encoded in your DNA from your antecedents, experience and your expertise. They are visible, measurable and personally characterized. Are you an open-minded, outgoing, considerate to everybody, responsible for your work or effective person? Those are the common questions to evaluate whether a person have good soft skills, not the opposite. The mastery of soft skills plays a paramount role in our job, study and communication with others, especially high achievers’ lives- no doubt.

1. What is your own definition of soft skills? Can you tell us some more actions or signals that manifest clearly what soft skills are?
2. What are both benefits in possessing soft-skills? Also, can soft-skill mastering pose some potential risks?
3. Do you agree that some persons who are very talented and intelligent can still succeed in their career although they have not- so -good soft skills?

Choosing the right future​

Every year in Vietnam, there are thousands of high school students taking part in entrance examination with the ultimate desire of entering university. The fact that most people think university is the best choice which guarantees the futures, and almost all parents want their kids to enter their favorite university with the pre-planned careers or the hot trendy job in the society at that moment. The pupils have no way but to follow the paths that have been set for them. In short, university becomes parents’ decision, not their children themselves.
Therefore, university students after a long or short period of studying time, find out that they have made the wrong decision in their study field. According to the social science department, it constitutes up to 50% students studying in university or college.
Choosing the right field to study is much more important than of people’s usual thought. Hence, let’s discuss this burning problem which is occurring in Vietnam so far!

LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP

Why doesn’t friendship develop into love? Ain’t it a great idea?
Yes. Every now and then, this topic is twitted in hundreds of forums, grasping millions of disparate viewpoints. Interestingly, majority of user responses are totally contradictory in which people either accept or oppose it while the rest, minority, has no idea or keep balance between the two arguments.
Regardless of its righteousness, it is quite astounding that a predominance of love-affairs between university or high school students in Vietnam becomes over after graduation. As a matter of fact, distance and new environments are often blamed as the root of this phenomenon.
What do you think about this? Let’s come and share your point of view with HDEC!

Hi cả nhà,

Mình ở khu vực cầu Bươu và cũng mới được biết đến câu lạc bộ tiếng Anh của các bạn.
Được biết là HDEC sinh hoạt vào tối thứ 6 hàng tuần ở Nhà văn hoá khu phố 6. Không biết các bạn thấy thế nào nhưng mình biết một chỗ khu vực cầu Bươu, có phòng đọc sách, phòng học với rất nhiều dụng cụ và sách hay hỗ trợ cho việc học tập như bảng, sách, laptop nối mạng, phòng thoáng đãng ... Nói chung là mình thấy okie lắm ý Thêm một điểm nữa là thấy gần nhà nữa. Mình suggest mọi người đến khu vực này để tổ chức sinh hoạt câu lạc bộ, mình nghĩ rất là lý tưởng. Vì chỗ này người ta xây dựng chuyên để dành cho các câu lạc bộ học tập sinh hoạt, giá thì cực rẻ mà điều kiện lại quá lý tưởng luôn ý.

Mọi người thử xem nếu mà thấy hứng thú thì thử qua đó và cho mình join câu lạc bộ với, muốn tham gia để nâng cao trình tiếng Anh lên lắm

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND HEALTH​

According to an estimation of the Lancet, a famous British medical magazine, Vietnam is on the top 10 countries that have the lowest Physical Inactivity rate (15.3%) in the world. That means we’re quite healthy but it seems not right for the youth now a day, especially who lives in a city.
Physical inactivity can cause serious problems with your health, it’s dangerous because you won’t see the consequences immediately but 10 or 15 years from now, so the youth tends to “ignore” it with pretty good excuses “dude, I have to work” “I don’t have time” “I haven’t joined a party for months” “I am ****ing tired” sound familiar? Well, I hope you know the fact that, Physical inactivity is responsible for nearly 1 out of 10 deaths around the world!
And yet we have to consider to the objective reasons e.g.: with the urbanization we’re losing our movement space, your workloads are damn heavy and makes you tired, your time table is full, you have to take care of your children…blah blah but setting aside 15 or 30 minutes per day for a better future is that something too hard for you? When you’re young you use your heath to “buy” money but when you’re old you can’t use that money to exchange for a healthy body. Think about it!

1. In your opinion, what make the youth become so lazy?
2. Do you love sport? And how often do you go out and play sport?
3. According to science, do you know other advantages physical activity brings to our life than keeping you healthy?
4. Physical activity is not the one and the only solution for staying healthy if you know something else, share it with others!
