ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam -- Senior Airman Mindy High waits for an aircrew before a morning launch here. B-2 Spirit bombers deployed here Feb. 25 to provide U.S. Pacific Command officials a continuous bomber presence in the Asia-Pacific region, enhancing regional security and the U.S. commitment to the Western Pacific. Bomber aircraft have had an ongoing presence on the island since February 2004. Airman High is a crew chief from the 509th Bomb Wing at Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo.

WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. -- Maj. Kristin Goodwin and Capt. Jenn Jeffords review checklists before a B-2 Spirit bomber mission Oct. 18. Flying the Spirit of Mississippi, they practiced conventional bombing and refueled with a KC-135 Stratotanker from Altus Air Force Base, Okla. The Airmen are assigned to the 325th Bomb Squadron here. Major Goodwin has been a B-2 pilot since May 2002; Captain Jeffords became B-2-certified in August.

NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- A B-2 Spirit takes off from the flightline here on a Red Flag training mission, Oct. 23, 2003. The B-2, a multi-role bomber capable of delivering both conventional and nuclear munitions, brings massive firepower to bear anywhere on the globe.

OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM -- Airman 1st Class David Moses, a crew chief from the 509th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., marshalls the B-2 named the Spirit of Missouri on March 31 at a forward-deployed location. The B-2 was returning from a combat mission over Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM -- Airman 1st Class Joy Menguita checks the running engines of a B-52 Stratofortress nicknamed "Iron Butterfly" before a combat mission March 21. Menguita and more than 1,000 others at this forward-deployed location are supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom and the global war on terrorism.

OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM -- B-2 Spirit bombers taxi down the runway in preparation for the largest insertion of bombers since the Viet Nam conflict. This flight will mark the official beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
