Employees at the Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company assembly plant here paint the first operational F/A-22 Raptor to be delivered to the Air Force. The jet, Raptor 18, will be used to train pilots in the 43rd Fighter Squadron at Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla. One aircraft each month is expected to arrive at Tyndall following Raptor 18''s arrival.

WASHINGTON -- Boeing is teamed with Lockheed Martin and Pratt & Whitney to design and build the F/A-22. Boeing is responsible for the wings, aft fuselage (including the structures necessary for engine and nozzle installation), avionics integration and tests, radar development, the training system, flight-test development and management, the fire-protection system and the life-support system.

EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Tech. Sgt. Dan Stevens, 411th Flight Test Squadron, uses a non-contact infrared thermometer while curing the coating on an F/A-22 Raptor. To ensure the base continues flight-testing large programs such as the F/A-22, the 412th Test Wing is re-engineering the way it does business.

NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. (AFPN) -- Airman 1st Class Keith Hartman removes the ladder guard after Capt. Erik Jacobson climbs into the ****pit during Red Flag 06-1, here Jan. 21 to Feb. 18. Red Flag is an exercise that tests aircrews'' warfighting skills. Flights involve more than 100 aircraft, including B-52 Stratofortresses and F-16 Fighting Falcons. The aircraft are flying missions day and night to the nearby Nevada Test and Training Range where they simulate an air war. Along with the Air Force, units from the Army, Navy, NATO and several allied countries are participating. Captain Jacobson is an F-117A Nighthawk pilot with the 49th Fighter Squadron at Holloman Air Force Base, N.M. Airman Hartman is an electrical engineering specialist with the 49th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron.

HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- The F-117A Nighthawk is the world''s first operational aircraft designed to exploit low-observable stealth technology. This precision-strike aircraft penetrates high-threat airspace and uses laser-guided weapons against critical targets.

LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. -- Col. Steve Miller, Commander of the 1st Fighter Wing greets the pilot of one of the six F-117A Nighthawk stealth fighters from Holloman Air Force Base, N.M., that landed here, on their way back to home base, April 14, 2003. The F-117s deployed on the 3rd of February with about 300 support personnel. All personnel are expected to return by the end of the month. The F-117s played a critical role in the first night of bombing, dropping four EGBU-27s on a high priority target. Two F-117s each unleashed two EGBU-27s on a structure in Baghdad on March 20th where Saddam Hussein was believed to be.
