    An MV-22 Engineering and Manufacturing, Development Osprey aircraft makes its landing approach to the flight deck of the USS Saipan (LHA 2) during deck landing qualifications on Jan. 16, 1999. The Saipan is the base for the aircraft''s month-long sea trials which are designed to establish the parameters for all phases of operation of the aircraft on a Tarawa class amphibious assault ship like the Saipan. The Osprey, with its unique tilt rotor design, will eventually replace the CH-46 Sea Stallion helicopter.

    The USNS Tippecanoe (TAO 199) (center) conducts an underway replenishment with the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyer Haruna (DD 141) (left) and the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) on Oct. 8, 1998. The Kitty Hawk and her escorts are conducting joint exercises with the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force.

The Ohio, which the lead boat of its class, is the first Trident submarine to tally 50 patrols.

    The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Constellation (CV 64) steams in the Persian Gulf on May 25, 1997, during Operation Southern Watch. Southern Watch is the U.S. and coalition enforcement of the no-fly-zone over Southern Iraq. The Constellation Battle Group and its air wing are enforcing the no-fly zones and also are monitoring shipping in the Persian Gulf region.

Stoneham performs maintenance on a EA-6B Prowler parked on the crowded flight deck of the USS Constellation (CV 64) in the central Pacific Ocean on April 10, 1997. The USS Constellation battle group is en route to the Persian Gulf to enforce no-fly zones and monitor shipping to and from the region. Stoneham is an Aviation Electrician''s Mate assigned to Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 131, Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Wash.
