    The candidate is expected to perform research at the interface of number theory / arithmetic geometry / automorphic forms / graph theory on the one hand and noncommutative geometry / spectral triples / symbolic dynamics on the other hand. More specifically, the project aims at investigating relations between various notions of zeta functions, homology and rigi***y.

    The applicants are expected to have a solid background in at least one of both sides of the project. As an example of a suitable background, a working knowledge in the field of both modular forms and curves and C*-algebras is ideal, but many further combinations of acquired knowledge are possible.
    We offer a dynamical working environment in a large project group consisting of 2 Post-docs and 3 PhD-researchers, located within one of the largest mathematics department of the Netherlands, with strong expertise in fields at the borderline of the current project.     We are looking for a PhD student in mathematical ecology, to study evolution in response to exogenous ecosystem changes such as exploitation and climate change. A major part of the work will consist of the development and use of mathematical and computational tools.
    The position is a joint appointment by the Department of Ecology and Environmental Science and the Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics, and the PhD student is expected to work with and take relevant courses at each of these departments. Depending on the direction in which the PhD student takes his or her research, the position may lead to a degree in mathematics or ecology.
    For this position, strong quantitative skills and an interest in ecology and applied mathematics are required. Candidates need a university Bachelor degree, with a minimum of 120 ECTS in relevant fields such as mathematics, physics, computer science, or ecology.

    The post-graduate student will work in a research group in stochastic processes and numeric analysis of random functions, with applications to signal and image processing and to simulation techniques. Current research areas also include financial mathematics, stochastic modeling for databases, and data mining. The mathematics which the group

    At the Department of Mathematics, University of Bergen or SINTEF ICT, Oslo, a 3-year position as Research Fellow (PhD position) is available within the project:
    Geological Storage of CO2: Mathematical Modelling and Risk Analysis.
    The fellowship is financed by the Research Council of Norway, StatoilHydro and Shell. Work location will be either at the University of Bergen or at SINTEF ICT in Oslo.
    The project is a cooperation between research groups at the University of Bergen and SINTEF ICT in Oslo. The candidate will participate in an international research network devoted to the development of analytical and numerical tools to be used in risk assessment analysis of geological storage of CO2. The candidate will in particular focus on the development of streamline methods for simulating CO2 injection. We seek a candidate with background from some of the fields: numerical analysis and programming, differential equations, and reservoir modelling and simulation.     Research Fellow (PhD position) - Mathematics and Numerics for Inverse Problems
    At the Department of Mathematics/CIPR a 3-year position as Research Fellow (PhD position) is available within the area of Mathematics and Numerics for Inverse Problems. Work location will be at CIPR.
    The project, which is financed by the Norwegian Research Council and several energy companies, is collaboration between research groups at CIPR, University of Bergen and CMA, University of Oslo (http://www.cma.uio.no ). The candidate will participate in an international network of researchers focusing on development of novel computational methods for solving inverse problems. Such methods are very important within, for example, modelling and remote monitoring of flows in petroleum reservoirs and modelling and remote monitoring of geological storage of CO2. The candidate will focus in particular on development and analysis of inversion methods based on more than one data type. We seek a candidate with background from at least one of the fields: applied/numerical mathematics, physics, or mathematical statistics.
