    Within the DFG Priority Programme SPP 1324 the Department of Mathematics at the Technische UniversitÔt Darmstadt offers a PhD- or Postdoc-Position (Pos. No. 326), volume of employment 75%, for three years.
    The candidate will work in a research project on Adaptive Wavelet Methods for Stochastic Partial Differential Equations, which is jointly carried out in Darmstadt (Prof. Ritter), Dresden (Prof. Schilling) and Marburg (Prof. Dahlke).
    Applicants should have a strong background in probability theory (stochastic analysis) or numerical analysis (partial differential equations, wavelets). German language skills are helpful, but not necessary.

    The position pertains to the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Oslo, Department of Mathematics, Mechanics Division.
    The position is connected with the Multiphase Flow Assurance Centre (FACE), with the objective to deliver world class applied and fundamental research and education focused on production, transportation and separation of complex well fluids.
    The PhD project concerns detailed velocity/turbulence measurements of particles in single-phase and stratified two-phase flow. Applicants should have background in fluid mechanics, turbulence theory and it is an advantage with background in experimental methods in fluid mechanics.

    Applications are invited for PhD studentships in Statistics, to be held in the Statistical Laboratory. The Studentships are associated with the Cambridge Statistics Initiative which is targeted at the development of novel statistical methodology, both generic and in specific application areas.     Description A position is available in the group of Torsten Ochsenreiter at the Institute of Cell Biology at the University of Bern. The focus of the Institute of Cell Biology is on RNA biology and host pathogen interaction, which are studied in a wide range of systems like Drosophila, yeast, human cell lines and parasites.
    My group focuses on RNA e***ing and mitochondrial biogenesis in the human pathogen Trypanosma brucei. We aim to generate high-throughput transcriptomics measurements that we will integrate using computational approaches in order to gain a systems-level perspective of mitochondrial biogenesis.
    There are two alternative projects.
    1. The successful applicant will be part of the bioinformatics and molecular biology lab and will use her/his expertise in informatics to drive the analysis and computational model development. Her/his project will include molecular biology approaches using high throughput techniques and subsequent development of computational tools/algorithms to analyse the acquired data.
    OR
    2. The successful applicant will be part of the molecular biology lab and use her/his expertise in molecular biology/biochemistry to study a posttranscriptional RNA modification process (RNA e***ing) in trypanosomes.
    You will be working in an international (lab language is English) highly stimulating scientific environment and be part of the graduate school at the Department of Biology. The position is initially guarantied for two years.

    Education For project 1. A M.Sc. in mathematics, computer sciences or physics or bioinformatics, or alternatively in biology with very strong computer programming skills. The applicant does not need any prior molecular biology experience, she/he will be trained in the lab.
    For project 2. A M.Sc. in biology/biochemistry. The applicant does not need prior parasitology experience.

    Description of the project and the position:
    Applications are invited for a PhD position in the group of ?oComputational Methods for Direct Field Problems?, at Johann Radon Institute for Computational and Applied Mathematics (RICAM), Linz, Austria. This position is part of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) project ?oIsogeometric method for partial differential equations?, led by Dr. S.K. Tomar. This project has several international and national
    collaborations.
    The position is limited to three years. The research is funded according to the FWF salary guidelines, see this link.
    The starting monthly gross income is 1830.60 Euro. This includes social security (pension), health care coverage, and unemployment benefits. Some ad***ional funds will also be available for research purposes (conference participation, research visits abroad, etc.). Apart from the standard computing resources, e.g. a personal laptop or a workstation with all the necessary softwares for routine work,
    access to large-scale machines are also available whenever required. The working language of the institute is English.
    Requirements:
    A master?Ts degree in applied/computational mathematics is required with excellent grades. The applicant must have a good understanding of numerical solution techniques, e.g. (discontinuous-Galerkin) finite element methods, for partial differential equations. Due to the computational nature of the project, high-level of programming skills (in fortran/c++/matlab) is also required. Ad***ionally, some
    background in linear algebra and iterative solvers (e.g. multigrid/multilevel methods) is desirable. Apart from a strong interest in the above-mentioned work, the applicant should be highly motivated in learning new topics related to the work.
