    Overview

    Scholarship: PhD Scholarship
Project: "Research in decentralized and distributed control and filtering"
    Closing Date: 31 January 2011

The coordination of multi-agent systems is one of the most active topics in the current control and systems literature. One of the central problems here is to develop distributed control and filtering algorithms based on local information that enables all agents to reach an agreement on quantities of interest (the consensus problem). The project will involve the development of generalized consensus rules and corresponding control and filtering algorithms to allow the agents to be connected into a network so that they achieve agreement when their dynamics are subject to noise and uncertain disturbances.

    Application Process:

The successful applicant is anticipated to have a first-class honours degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or other relevant areas, with specialization in control theory and control applications.

All applicants are expected to possess excellent communication and research skills and should satisfy UNSW admission requirements for the PhD program. Admission details are available at (http://www.unsw.adfa.edu.au/student/future/research.html). Applications should include a detailed CV, including email addresses of two referees, a copy of academic transcripts and a cover letter detailing the applicant’s research interest and its relevance to the project.

Potential applicants should discuss their application and forward their paper work via email to Associate Professor Valery Ugrinovskii, email:
    v.ougrinovski@adfa.edu.au
The deadline for applications is 31 January 2011 or until the position filled, for a possible starting date of July 2011 or earlier.

Further information can be obtained from:

    Overview

The U.S. Embassy recruits and nominates Vietnamese scholars for placement by the Council for the International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) as lecturers and researchers in U.S. universities for terms of three to nine months. From seven to ten scholars from Vietnam travel to the United States on an annual basis.

    • What is the deadline for application?
The annual deadline for applications to the Vietnamese Scholar Program is October 15. Application for the 2011-2012 academic year must be completed and received at the Fulbright Program in Vietnam Office by October 15, 2010.

    • What does the Vietnamese Scholar Program grant provide?
Participants in the Vietnamese Scholar Program are provided with a stipend and living expenses for the full term of the grant. Typical grants range from three months to nine months. Participants are also provided with transportation to and from the United States and participants are eligible to apply for further travel grants to cover ad***ional research not covered by the main grant. CIES helps place scholars at appropriate host institutions in the United States.

    • Who is eligible for the Vietnamese Scholar Program?
All participants in the Vietnamese Scholar Program must hold an M.A. or a Ph.D. degree. Participants must be Vietnamese citizens and must have adequate English skills to conduct their research and/or lectures in the United States. Special consideration is given to scholars in the academic disciplines of American Studies, Environmental Studies & Policy, Economics (including international economics and agricultural economics), Law, Public Administration, Higher Education Administration, Women's Studies, Urban Planning & Development, Foreign Policy, and Public Health. The Vietnamese Scholar Program is open to all candidates who qualify through open competition on the basis of academic and professional merit, without regard to race, religion, gender or affiliation.

    • How are participants chosen?
The Fulbright Program sends a grant announcement to universities, colleges, think-tanks and people’s committees throughout Vietnam every year. A peer review panel is then convened to select candidates who are distinguished by their academic prominence, possess potential for becoming key figures in their fields, and whose research topic or methodology is creative. After the panel makes its recommendation of candidates, the Fulbright Program interviews these candidates to assess their English abilities. The Program then sends its recommendations to CIES for further evaluation. Once the candidates' records are assessed, CIES forwards its selection of candidates to the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, which makes a final selection of participants.

    What fields are eligible?
Although applicants from all fields are welcome to apply, special consideration will be given to scholars in the academic disciplines of American Studies, Environmental Policy, Foreign Policy, Economics (including International Economics and Agricultural Economics), Public Health, Law, Public Administration, Higher Education Administration, and Women’s Studies.

    The complete application includes:

     Application form
     Detailed project statement
     Detailed Curriculum Vitae
     Three reference letters
