Asia Leadership Fellow program (ALFP) 2010 - Call for Applications
The Japan Foundation welcomes your interest in applying for the Asia Leadership Fellow program (ALFP) 2010. General Theme for 2010 is "Asia in Dialogue: Visions and Actions for a Humane Society". The ALFP is open to citizens of Northeast-, Southeast- and South-Asian countries, aged 35 to 59, inclusive. A postgraduate degree is not a prerequisite, but applicants must have a good command of English and have demonstrated outstanding leadership ability or potential in their own professions.
There is no prescribed set of professions for an ALFP fellow; the professions of past fellows include, but are not limited to, academia, journalism, business, national and local politics, education, administration, the arts, publications, and NGO and non-profit activities. The ALFP is also eager to broaden the professional and disciplinary backgrounds of fellows. Regardless of his/her profession, a fellow is expected to have access to a wide audience in his/her country or region through publications, teaching, media, performance, etc. to disseminate his/her thoughts and findings.

Project title: Reliability and cost benefit assessment of transmission options for connecting large-scale remote power generators to the existing national grid
The Power and Energy Systems Research group at the School of Information Technology & Electrical Engineering, University of Queensland, Australia invites qualified candidates for a full-time PhD position, supported by Queensland Geothermal Energy Centre of Excellence (QGECE ). The expected starting date is March 2010.
The Power and Energy Systems Research group enjoys strong industry collaboration in research both nationally and internationally. The group is a major partner of the Australian Power Institute. The main research is specifically directed at the analysis and prediction of the dynamic behaviour of power systems for reliable and secure operation. The research group is also involved with generation and transmission planning issues in a deregulated electricity market environment. The group is actively working on a number of challenging problems relevant to renewable energy and distributed generation integration to the main national grid. Qualifications
Candidates are required to obtain an MSc in electrical engineering with speciality in power system reliability. Also, simulation skills such as MATLAB/SIMULINK and basic knowledge of power system simulation packages (Digsilent / PSSE) are required.
Applicants should also have good writing and communication skills in English. Applicants must demonstrate that their current level of English language proficiency meets The University of Queenslandâ?Ts minimum entry requirements.
